You have given the chronology according to the Massoret text of the 10-11th centuries of our era. The difference between the Massoretic chronology and the classical Orthodox one is 1747 years. The difference was formed due to the different interpretation of time in the Old Testament between the Septuagint of the 3rd century BC and the Massoretic text of the 10th century AD.

Example:

Genesis chapter 5 verse 3

Septuagint: "Adam lived two hundred and thirty years and begat a son in his own likeness, in his own image, and called his name: Seth."

Massoret text: "Adam lived one hundred and thirty years and begat a son in his own likeness, in his own image, and called his name: Seth."

And there are 1747 years of such discrepancies in dates.

I find it little funny how many people read these texts and conclude that they were the intended audience despite them having little or nothing common with the authors.

When these text were written the world was a very different place, and religious views were very different even within the same faith. By the standards of 2000 years ago today's evangelical faiths would seem strange and alien. Particularly churches that preach things like prosperity based beliefs.

Could it be that the texts a warnings about us, not for us?
