Congrats every day counts. I too had substance abuse problems with multiple things. Life is much better sober free from the lash of addictions.

Good job bud

Ive lost count now after the sixth month but think its around 10 months now for me. Im crap with keeping tabs on myself as I don't want to be too harsh and rebel. Part of me hates being told what to do, even by myself or used to be like that until more recently haha

The 30th of November was 8 months for me. After 25+ years of the rock and roll life...8 months is huge to me.

And yes, I still do shows every week, but now I have extra $$$ to show for it. Best choice i ever made.

I am cutting down. I don't want to quit, I just don't want to drink everyday all day. It is taking half a year to get there but my mindset is slowly being replace with just doin' what I do sober. Forgetting the want or need to feel numb & gladfully confused. I am only drinking twice a week sometimes 3 times but only half as much when i do drink & i take days off. Like I said, its a process of months. I only take a couple hits of bud at night too but sometimes i skip a day, compared to being a whole blown stoner too.

It is not for everyone because I have learned through extensive training to handle my anger problems, like thinking random things that have nothing to do with the situations, just because my mind wants a product of senselessness.

I am not there yet, to where I want to be, but I imagine it is only 6 more months of cutting down to expel my other thoughts of habit.

Also, I changed to dip after a life of smoking. I smoke every couple days now well pretty much when I drink & chew in between. The nicotine of chew is way easier to go without, it feels different but it is not the emotional insecurities or physical exhastion that i feel from cigarettes. The arsenic or one of the many chemicals in cigarettes depletes a certain chemical that produces some tyoe of energy output the body uses & that is what makes it so hard to quit.

Congrats negedef. 420 days is no small effort. And on the ciggies as well, good job there. I missed that alcohol addiction though I know some who did not. Ciggies though, another tough one. I smoked for over twenty years but finally after 6 attempts, made quitting final. The urge on those additions though still pokes it's ugly head up into our lives and makes a life long vigilance necessary. Again, contrats on 420 days. See you in another 420

Never had a problem with alcohol, spend about ten bucks a month for it, but had a huge problem with weed for about 15 years, smoked everyday, all day, only hang out with people that smoke too, only went to places where i could smoke and so on. It costed me an easy thousand a month, before a quit it, i was at a point that i drank oil, crazy stuff, eventually started getting seizures from it, like epileptic seizures, but the doctors could not explain them, but they stopped happening after i dropped the habit.

Really happy i cant just walk in to a store and buy it, would have probably killed myself by now.

Different strokes for different folks.

But tobacco.. Really hard to kick that one, not sure if i ever will.

Big congrats to you, and I hope you are increasingly blessed for your great choice!

I quit completely sometime mid August and not going back to it. I was an off and on drinker for over 20 years and by God's grace I have no desire to touch it again.

Over 7 years straight for me!
Not a sip.
Congratulations. Some of us are not only doing ourselves a favour by quitting, but also doing our community a big favour haha

But is it easy to start drinking if you run out of weed?

Therein lies the question, i remember when i was just a kid and we just discovered weed, an interesting thing happened, when we could not find more, some of the kids started using pills, all kinds, did not even know what they were.

And after 20 years they are still at it.

Breathe in and breathe out and don't drink in-between. Make sure you take it one day at a time. Good luck on your journey.

I have been a visitor to this site for 10+ years and enjoy reading many of the threads which are unfiltered with media and social media (completely avoid the latter!), had no real desire to post anything.

But, just wanted to drop a quick line to say hats of to anyone who can stay sober, I am sure you feel the benefits of it and I am in your awe.

I only wish I had the will power to stop, but can't seem to go past a few weeks. Don't drink during the week but once I go out I am on it and go crazy
Have done for years and I hate that I have no self control when I start. Don't get me wrong, I have had some amazing times whilst out, but drink has also been the root cause of some of my biggest regrets.

That's the dilemma I have with myself every weekend.....when it's good, it's great but jeez when it goes pear shaped it falls apart very quickly.
