Was deadly force necessary? Absolutely not. Justified? Well with a good enough lawyer it might be.

Not likely any lawyer will be able to make a case this psychopath had no other option

I have to say, the officer involved clearly does not possess very well developed critical thinking skills. He literally only needed to knock over the wheelchair and laugh at the idiot with the knife and charge with armed robbery. I could have done it easily with a bit of inertia and a kick.

However, having said that, the dead criminal made the choices that led to his untimely demise. Both in that instance, and throughout his life. Just let the officer be fired, get a civil suit payout from the municipality, and move on. I really see no reason to send the cop to prison, pretty sure he did the community a favor.

Before anyone goes on with " and when it happens to you..." , I would never make the stupid personal choice of brandishing a weapon towards an officer after committing an armed robbery/burglary by statute.

Your can have a knife on your persons in an interaction with LEO and not be shot, it is really simple. I have been pulled over while open carrying a knife before. I simply declared it, cooperated, and had my blade returned to me afterwards. Not that the vehicle search was consented to mind you, and I stated as such into the dash cams. But lo and behold, cooperation and respect led to an inconvenience of twenty minutes, instead of a night in jail or dead.

Not even a ticket fo forgetting my lights were off.

Don't be a Darwin award winner, choose better. This lesson applies to both individuals involved.

Should have tried a pit manoeuvre first... or at least used a spike strip.

This was clearly a bad shoot, but just like most of the other shootings the idiot did not comply with a lawful order from the officer. It seems to be a common theme of how to get suicided by cop.

Suicide by a f'ing idiot, who was too f'ing dumb not to oblige?

Wheelchair man may have been mentally ill at the time, drugged up whatever. No reason whatsoever to shoot the guy. Ok say he was going after someone in the store with a knife, shut the doors? umm move away from him? The cop could have shot his hand? Tazer? But not 9 friggin shots in the back, when at the moment the only crime was theft and not listening to the cops?! How many more cops like this are out there!? Scary.

You’ll really shoot him in the hand before shooting out his tires like in the movies?

I #ing knew someone was going to come in here and say shoot him in a limb 🤬

You called it Brotherman...

There is a very large part of the American population, for whom everything they know about guns and shooting them and hitting the target, they learned from TV and movies.

This fired ex-cop should get a felony conviction, and hopefully will keep firearms out of his hands for a very long time.

Given this shoot... you know any partner he has had was glad THEY weren't in the line of fire.

OK Maybe not, I was simply making a point that there were a multitude of options available to that cop, some pretty obvious, other than shooting him 9 times in the back!

The cops had lots of options here besides using lethal force.... let the air out of the guys wheels, stick a broom handle through the wheel spokes, put a shopping trolly in his way, sneak up behind him and unplug the battery of the wheelchair, throw a hot cup of coffee in the perps lap, lasso him and tie him off to a bicycle rack.... I can literally think of a hundred harmless things they could have done to render this guy immobile... but 9 shots to the back? Way to go Officer.

As an earlier member has stated let this be a lesson to anyone that no matter who you are, what station in life you occupy, how defenceless you are, a cop with a gun could potentially empty a clip into you for non-compliance.

I don't know if it applies here, but I know about it happening with soldiers.

They've been drilled and drilled and drilled again to do certain things in certain situations, and sometimes they can't go off script even if the situation does because they've become so locked in to their training.

It's a form of tunnel vision, they follow through even if it's not appropriate.

There are stories about radar operators who see an incoming aircraft and they get locked into an attack drill and even after the aircraft pulls away they see it attacking in their mind and call out their drills rather than what's really happening.

It's possible that this cop saw somebody who was armed and not complying and in his head it was someone entirely different from the man who was really there.

Like some kind of psychosis.

You get this some times with ptsd victim as well. They freak out because something triggers a memory and it intrudes on their perception of reality. So instead of shouting at some kid on their lawn they think they're fighting some guy back in nam, and they go nuts and shoot them.

Stupid question, is there any protocol to announce to a perp a warning, “stop or I will shoot”

It just seems wrong, the whole event.

It's high time we start properly equipping our law enforcement officers.
We train them to empty their guns into those that dont comply, or piss them off, in this case that guys lucky he only got 9 rounds. The officer showed great restraint by not shooting him 17 times, or by exchanging magazines.

It's a good possibility that the officer experienced a cramp in his trigger finger from trying to pull the trigger so fast.

This type of injury to our brave men and women in blue cannot stand!

It's time we start looking out for our heroes and begging properly equipping them with G18's with extended magazines. This will reduce strain on the trigger finger by 90% while still allowing the officer to pump 30 rounds into their latest target of choice.

Our valiant warriors in the great war against the people deserve no less.

Rittenhouse was a literal commando. At 17.

Ryan Remington is just a psycho. The epitome of why i have a hard time with cops in general. Several individuals i love though. Theres good people in every group.

If you draw, its because you intend to shoot. If you shoot its because you intend to kill.

You do not kill over someone elses property, thats standard in all 50 states. So that warning would have no reason to be used in this case to begun with. Its announcing an intent to kill you. Over the potential that there is a tool box hidden from view that was stolen.

If I was another cop on the scene I would have drawn on the officer after this and forced him to cuffs and shot him if he didn’t drop his gun.

If you had two brain cells to rub together you would have put a Baton in his wheelchair and called the ambulance.

That's almost as bad as this unjustified cop killing (of a crying and freaked out) teenager infront of his girlfriend in the hallway of a hotel .. the cop unloads with some sort of "assault rifle" indoors in a public hotel hallway. Does he realize those bullets will go through a person through a wall and through another wall and possible even further depending on what the walls are made of. This was an extremely dumb dangerous and unnecessary use of deadly force against and unarmed teen so freaked out by getting pulled out of room by cops with rifles that he couldn't understand the unclear directions being barked at him from behind rifles and flashlights.

youtu.be...

.... and this evil porker was acquitted. How? Seriously? How was this dude let go free to do this # again? This video made me sick and I'm not one to get emotionally triggered by videos buy I could feel his panic and fear and confusion.. sad and dangerous state of affairs when justified use of deadly force can be used at the discretion of the cop.

Unreal.

Pausing the video at 1:26 I see his dead body drop key, smokes, a cell phone and some blue thing. I don't see a knife.

Thankfully, the Chief of Police already fired him and this piggy is going to pay.

This is why I avoid any interaction with police. Sure some are solid, heck most are solid - but given how many people are police officers there is always going to be a small % of idiots.

Good to see he was fired for a clearly unjustified shooting. Charges soon hopefully and if it turns out to be exactly what it looks like - lots of jail time.

Freed up a parking spot I suppose. The desensitization of extreme violence and its unincumbered dissemination over the years is mind blowing. Totally not advocating censorship. So...war is war. Or is it social evolution?..Im still on the fence. He's an old hippy and he don't know what to do..

Objectively though..knee jerk, there was either something real bad we didn't see, or this guy was a horny psycho tryin to get the blondes number. Meant to reply to the thread, pardon me vonclod.a reply to: vonclod

thank god that man is dead for for a small tool box........i mean a item worth less than 50$ is definitely worth killing a disabled person over and shooting him in the back 9 times and than cuffing the dead body, what did the off duty think he was going to run away?

/end sarcasm

i want to know why he was wearing police gear at a NON police side job. At that time he was not a police officer, you stop being a cop when you clock out and become a normal person. I bet you Lowes is getting ready to write a big check to make this go away as fast as possible and i bet you the family would have a case against the police org. he was part of as well as the city for letting an off duty civilian wear police gear.

he said he was worried about a person in Lowes, the person he was worried about could walk faster than this guy could roll in his chair.

i would love to know how Lowes feels about their guard killing someone over a small tool box

and for all we know he was going back in to pay for it.

better yet they could have just taken it from him.

they could have stuck a baton in the wheels

who needs criminals when we have cops like this

I don't know, I've never personally intended to shoot anyone, and I can't be alone in this line of thinking.

You draw to establish dominance. The aim is to get them to back down. Killing us a last resort.

I don't want to kill some punk kid over something stupid, but I do want them to keep their hands where I can see them while I call the cops.
