Except the guy was not a threat?

Where’s the tool box?

It’s not uncommon to have a knife in a home improvement store?

The bullets went into the man at a 45 degree angle from his side favoring his back, I doubt “metal plates” in a wheel chair if any were there did anything to stop the rounds.

You shoot until they stop moving. And it was attemped shoplifting. i assume he dropped the box. and having a razor knife is common, not a stabby stabby knife.

Point being he should had stopped as told to do so. he ran,at slow speed, but still ran and had a knife that made him a danger to others.

He was a criminal, and got what he deserved.

I have to agree with this. Whether he deserved to be shot is one thing, but if I've said it once, I've said it a million times... COMPLY. COMPLY. COMPLY. Had the old timer just complied, he wouldn't have been shot.

I wouldn't have shot the old man, but that's just me and I'm not a police officer.

Since you asked nicely

Interesting... Thank you. In my personal opinion, both parties acted in poor form.

Yeah, you’re right

The simple act of having the knife (or gun/sword) Is not a justified use of deadly force

A few others options would have been

1) Ask the stores nearby to lock down, ask people to shelter in place
2) Use your vehicle as a barrier, at slow speeds making sure nobody got run over
3) Let loose a wall of rubber bullets. In his case, because he was sitting, skip rounds and other less lethal munitions would have required additional tactical consideration but they can still be deployed
4) Bangs and gas to disorient and disperse
5) 40mm rounds, foam impactors. They can be used on the Torso

I probably would have, personally, exhausted all the above before deciding it had to escalate to deadly force

I wasn’t there. But there’s a reason the other officers didn’t shoot. One of these things is not like the other,….why?

a reply to: BomSquadi come across many a butthead brandishing a knife when i was a store security guard all i was allowed to use was my wits i have never got stabbed or cut by an assailant so saying you have to shoot someone brandishing a knife is stupid. you just have to use your head and keep your cool. lethal force should only have been used here if he was attacking someone with said knife.

Sure, but did someone have to die?

When you watch this, you can see he stops firing before putting in one last "FU round" in him. That cop will be lucky if that guy doesn't have family that cares.

One of these days, someone is going to do this to the wrong person and mass chaos and causalities will ensue!

That chair has metal to support the back in it. of those 9 times, how many were deformed by the seat before striking the man? it takes more shots to stop someone when the bullets are slowed down due to penetrating something.

A fair point yes .

But this seems to be a point that would only occur to someone looking to debate the Shooting and take the side of the officer. Your assuming the " shoot first ask questions later" Officer had the presence of mind to take into account the metal wheelchair and its ability to stop him from penetrating the Metal . ?

I seriously doubt that.

At that range the officer had a very visible and vulnerable target in the form of the suspects head , if he was looking to disable the threat immediately that would have been his target . Cops are trained to shoot center mass until the target is no longer deemed a threat and that is exactly what this moronic panicky Cop did , He had no idea what to do when the guy would not immediately comply so he just started shooting .

What makes this unacceptable is the fact that the guy was

A. in a fuc*ing wheel chair .
B . Moving away from the officer .

No its called enforcing the law. No telling if the man had a gun on him either. when you are told to stop after committing a crime stop. Stop pitying people who are handicapped,we dont want your pity.

No you don’t shoot till he stops moving that’s ridiculous. In the latest article out of Arizona the chief that fired him said what Remington did was absolutely backwards from their use of force training, the god damned mayor of the city described his actions as “indefensible”

I won’t argue that Richard’s was a criminal that he was.

TRANSLATION: the optics looks bad because he was in a wheelchair and we do not want to lose our jobs.

Read the article I linked. How’s this for an optic.., the cop was fired because what he did is perverse to anything he was ever trained to do. I am not making this # up. As for your metal plate theory that is false too there is no metal plate in the back of that chair look it up, and if there was any metal and not plastic it would be a T shaped support that won’t stop anything.

Do you bear arms in your profession or have you ever?

I am hazard a guess and say you never have much less had to use one in real life.

I only bring that up because if you have had to use a weapon in your profession you would clearly understand lots of factors that do not meet the eye.

I consider you a friend here so please don’t take my line of words here as an attack on you.

I get it. A knife. Fleeing etc.

Buy why in the hell did he cuff a corpse?

Standard operating procedure. You never know if he's faking it, or isn't completely dead yet.

By that cops logic why not just plug one more in the back of his dome? Nothing else he did was by the book. I really hope families were not there with their children and they had to see that with Christmas around the corner.

It might sound a little perverse, but that's legally considered to be an extra judicial killing (AKA, an execution). If the person is already down you can leave them to bleed out, but you can't finish them off.

A group of cops can pump 50 rounds into a man's back while he's running away, but as soon as he drops to the ground the rules change.

I don't think that the cop would have known this at the time.

You are special aren’t you 🦄

I’m going to say a few things here:

1: situational awareness

2: escalation of force

And as an added bonus….
Nobody has found the tool box the criminal stole just a bunch of bull # from a lawyer and no one has put the loss provention specialist on the hot seat yet.

No one else called 9-11 over a knife wielding maniac btw

Conclusion:
People lied
Moonlighting cop murdered a guy
Cop moonlighting fired, mayor claims his action is, and I quote, “indefensible”.

Lawyer claims… the whole time Remington was trying to de-escalate the situation

Now back to your super ultra magical belief on being someone in uniform
Carrying a weapon that has a duty to do something,

What you saw do you personally believe was ok?

If you really want I can link you to multiple public available 9-11 calls for knife wielding maniacs, the dick face child hired at wal-mart probably lied and the cop is lying to save his ass but that’s my speculation.

COMPLY. COMPLY. COMPLY

Sadly due to the politisization of everything that's the exact opposite of what a lot of people think that they should do.

About 1/3 of American society think that the cops are fascists and are to be resisted at every turn. They'd rather get up in a cops face from the get go rather than let the truth come out after the cuffs have gone on.

And this covers both sides of the political divide. On one side you've got the hard left SJW who think that everything is about discrimination, and on the other you've got the hard right sovereign citizens who very on being anarchists some times and reject all symbols of authority.

As I've always said, the difference between people who get arrested and those who don't, for trivial things, is that one side hands over their IDs and complies with instructions, even if state law says that they don't have to, and the other side resist everything even if its not in their interest.

The best way to get yourself arrested is to refuse to tell a cop who you are and why you're there. Even if you are 100% in the right, resisting makes it worse.

And I just know that I'm going to get somebody responding telling me that I need to fight the power and that "they" want us to be weak and compliant, well, it's all a game and the cops are just another faction, not an opposing player. They can be hostile or they can be friendly, and getting them on your side is going to make things much easier for you.
