I couldn't help but noticing since certain members arrived back in ATS land that the chauvanism and neo-victorian moral values have permeated the atmosphere.

So to clear the air, and remove some of the veiled attitudes from other threads, I'd just like to ask those with issues where exactly do you think women belong in modern society?

(and please no 'on the end of my **** hurr hurr' jokes - I've got the humour of a teenage boy myself so yes I'll laugh but its going to get tedious)

Like I've said before.... I was just discussing Cleopatra... not all, or most, women... (OIMD is worried that his historical remarks will take him down with Freemason)

I have noticed it too! I don't know why there is this sudden revival of sexism and chauvinism.

I don't know. maybe people just switched all that negative energy off the mods and onto another board minority

Well, one of my staff is a sociologist (apparently it's not a cult or a physical deformity but an academic subject) and she was talking about this the other day with regard to examination questions.
The word it seems is "matrifocal" ( though other, shorter, and less Latinate, ones occurred to me).
Well, I asked her to give Estragon the gist of this phenomenological drivel, and -apparently -men are reacting to the fact that women are increasingly becoming the dominant economic partner. More likely to have a job, often more likely to be the better paid partner and so forth.
This results in things called "house-husbands" and sundry other aberrations in the Great Divine Plan. But, in short, Western men feel their "breadwinner" role has been threatened if not overturned and this manifests itself in general Angst, anomie, and all round head-not-right-ness.
The gentlemen, unable to assert economic dominance, take instead to general misogyny, infantile surliness, caddishness and ungentlemanly postures. (Estragon, of course, managed all of these from a position of complete economic dominance; but some men do need help. On the other hand, if there is a dear lady out there who would care to make Estragon economically inferior and a prisoner of housework -please forward a resum).
And there we have it fellow-cyberchaps. We've lost our thrones and we're sulking.

...dude...I have absolutely NO problem becoming a 'kept-man'...I would gladly stay at home and take care of everything there while the lady goes out and earns the money...

...as long as she allows me to have a sports-car, a nice selection of automotive tools and ample garage space to tinker around in occasionally...then by all means...hand me the apron...

Is the color ok? Does it match your kitchen? Now make sure I have a nice hot meal waiting for me upon my return. And ya better not have a headache!

Women belong in whatever position that they have proven the ability to handle responsibly, the same as any man. To judge anyone based on gender is about as valid as judging them by their shoe size or any other unrelated information. Sexism, like most "ism's" are the easy ways out.

A Few Facts Some Have Forgot, or Faild to Realize:
1. Men and Women are Very, Very Different...and it's supposed to be that way!

2. Nieth gender is more or less important or capable than the other when judged as a whole.

3. (Overall in Society today) Yes, Chivalry is dead. The Womens Movement Killed it.

4. Some People want a Mate who will serve them. Some People want to be a servant to their Mate. Some People want a Mate who is Equal in regards to their relationship. Hint: Figure yourself out first, then you'll know what to look for.

5. Both sides being equal: Who's responsible for the toilet seat? Both. The only fair solution is for the seat and lid to be put down each and ever time. (If you want to take it the discussion that far!)

Yep, I always let my partner know that I'm more than happy to be a 'House Husband'.. She'd need a good paying job...To be able to pay for a nanny, cause I'm not gonna look after my children, little mischievous devils.

Seriously though, having worked in jobs with many female employees previous to my current occupation (building, of which there is an almost compleate absence of the fairer sex) I do do notice that there is far less, sulking, tears and general cattiness. Also I never have to be politically correct, and I can be a compleate male chauvinist without having to be worried about offending anyone, or being sued for sexual harrasment.
Plus I get a licience to wolf whistel at any attractive women that comes near the site.

How many of you men are asked daily by housewives and single women, to fix something in their bedrooms, usually requires screwing.

Considering I have a shiney new red necklace because of this issue I'll chime in. I believe any woman should be at the place in society that she has proven herself to qualify for. Deciding if she has, in fact, proven herself can be easily determined: you do it the same way, with the same requirements, as you do for a man.

I agree with all principles of equality, including equal pay for equal work.

I have proposed the following for the two major tennis federations (ATP & WTC) for 2004 and 2005.

1. All Grand Slams (men's and woman's) Finals to be played over five sets, with equal prize money.

2. (Year later). Prize pools combined, 256 in the draw for one unisex championship. How many of the top 128 guys will Serena Williams beat?

Equal pay for equal work, at work.

And I'll go further than that.

The equality sword cuts both ways. If a woman cannot qualify for a position, and about the only area I can think of is physical stature and/or strength, then she is not qualified. This goes for private industry, civilian government positions, and military jobs. See, it becomes so easy when you just state the requirements and then check off the boxes.

women belong any place men go. some women are better than some men. if i was a bomber pilot and my wife was a fighter pilot assigned to escort my flight id have no problem with it. but the question is (militarly speaking) DO WOMEN BELONG ON THE FRONT LINES? discuss amongst your selves.
