I found this interesting and wondered how this will affect ATS, if at all.

theconversation.com...

Is this just another control mechanism by TPTB? Or does it have actual legitimacy?

Australia has deemed social media can be held responsible.

Does ATS count as social media?

I don't think deanonymizing people will do much to stop most people from speaking their mind. It might cut down on the anonymous trolls a little.

This will just lead to a lot of fake profiles, and possibly even more toxic posts (by the fake profiles) specifically trying to make the real person look bad.

ATS, if not social media; what is it...

deanonymizing will allow anyone with a grievance to track you down. That includes the govt. and private citizens; Do you want that?
Probably the govt. could track you down anyway if they want.

It already does to a certain degree.

If you use FB, Gmail, Twitter or any other social media account where you are forced to enter a mobile number.

Youtube recently want's ID if you want to watch stuff tagged 18+ on youtube.

So they tag stuff they want to hide 18+ (normal videos, no violence or porn) and those who watch it, can be identified. First step for lot's of lists.

But the lists are not the biggest problem, it's what they will use the lists for. The social credit system.

I guess I never considered it social media because the website is nothing like Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, IG, etc... I always considered ATS to be a discussion board. ATS isn't exactly a collection of user taken selfies or statements of how a person's day went. Although wikipedia calls social media "the social interaction among people in which they create, share or exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks." So, I guess ATS is indeed social media.

I may say some off of the wall stuff here, but have never considered anywhere on the internet to be fully anonymized. Unless you have a perfect onion set up and a legit burner phone, the government usually can find you with minimal effort. And normal people with the skills can do the same.

I doubt if anyone is worried about the "Normal" people, if their is even such a thing. It's the obvious insane threatening violent people that inhabit the www. you need to worry about.

Like they say....just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you...why make it easier for them by deanominizing.

Personally I don’t care if they officially know who i am and what i think and believe. It won’t make a difference, they know already anyway.

Privacy on the internet is gone for decades already.

By normal people, I meant nongovernmental and was not excluding insane threatening violent people. Maybe normal was not the right word.

How about the "unofficial" stalkers that may have nefarious intent. You want that? How about your family; the far reaching implications are endless.
