I'm not a car nut (anymore), but I appreciate cool cars. I still love the old muscle cars most of all.
I also follow the new auto technology a little. Gotta admit, some of this stuff is very cool.

This new Mercedes Vision AVTR is pretty amazing.
Someone left a funny comment on one of the YouTube vids.
With my luck, I'd drive a few blocks, and then someone in an $800.00 car would crash into me.

Mercedes Benz has unveiled their newest concept car mind, at the IAA Mobility Show 2021 in Munich, that is fitted with BCI, short for Brain Computer Interface, which are devices used to monitor brain activity. This allows drivers to control systems within the car by thought.

I think it's very ugly. I'll stick with my E63. Although, I don't think my E63 looks nearly as good as my E55 did. It seems to me that the trend is to make cars look uglier with each new generation. Especially the electric cars. Trying to make them look futuristic just results in an ugly vehicle.

From the side.
Good luck walking away from that one.
"Concept cars" are always the most ridiculous of ideas ever created in the multiverse .

It would take about ten minutes and one Indiana pot hole to make that car a trailer queen.

And it still can't go further than a rusted Datsun truck from 1983.

While this is certainly interesting, it has ZERO real-world practicality. From getting hit by the guy with a junker and no insurance, to potholes, to North American weather… thanks but if I have that kind of disposable money I’m putting it elsewhere.

No thank you.
I don't want a car in my brain.
Having a hard enough time keeping google, amazon and the like out of there. LOL

Looks like a Tron car.

It's a concept car, only 20% of this will actually be inside the production car, if ever produced on a bigger scale.

From a TÜV (safety panel for cars) point of view:

Person protection:
- The surface of the tires that make street contact are not protected.
- The angle the car has at the front will never be allowed
- The tiles on the top pose a serious threat to every person overran. While that may sound funny, it is actually the case, that's why we can't have rear spoilers made from thin aluminium, it would chop a person in half when overran. Cars have to be designed to protect a human on impact.

Way of direction indication:
- White and yellow for the front, white, yellow and red for the rear is what the colors are to determine which way a car travels at night. Is it traveling from or to you. That's why in many countries, under floor lighting is forbidden. It makes it really hard to determine quickly, if the car is head on, going away or even sideways at night.

Safety of the passengers
- I want to see the huge airbags these thing has, with that much space in front.
- The side is completely vulnerable, a bike or a smaller car could totally get stuck in there after penetrating during an accident

I am very sure there are more things keeping this from being produced. I just went by eye and not even into tech, after all it is a concept car, trying to test out new technologies.

I agree. When these types of vehicles become available, they'll be rich people toys. I said in my OP that I love the old muscle cars. As impressive as this Mercedes AVTR might be, I swear I'd take a 70 Cuda instead.

I guess it will be fun when 99% of the population is gone. All the great gadgets that will be available to the remaining elite.
But I think that by the time this car could be practical to drive it will be obsolete due to those elites flying around.

Maybe the next Bond will be driving one in a chase scene.

edit. It shore is purdy.

I would take that Cuda over the Mercedes too.

As an advice to anyone able:
As more and more car manufacturers stop building manual transmissions and in a few years, stop producing ICE driven cars... It might be one of the last chances to get an old manual transmission car to store it away for the future.

In twenty years, when all those people that still learned shifter can't have that anymore, because it's EV or nothing... and emotions are left behind with EVs, I drive one... You're going to make a very good deal.

Cool car but not fast, the Jaguar E Type was once called the most beautiful car ever created by non other than Enzo Ferrari, it was cheaper and faster than his own sports car as well and while older than your car I would prefer it any day.

Handled better as well.

And it has been reborn, albeit not a real Jaguar it has the classic looks and modern mechanics.

Though you know and here is where I get called Heretic, I like a French Citroen even more and it's not even a sports car just one of the most advanced cars of it's day and one of the most iconic.
The Citroen DS.

I have to give this to the French as well they know how to make bloody good cars.

Ok I won't say the Astin Martin but that was a definite boyhood dream especially after Goldfinger.
You know they actually made real Astin martins with bullet proof shield and machine gun headlights for some rich Arab's, they were not as good as Bond's car though.

Plus the E-Type is far nicer looking than the Astin Martin.

Ahhh "The Goddess" from Citroen. What a feat of technology she is. I see one in summer frequently, still driven. Citroen makes really good cars, they are often a step ahead.

When I was really small a friend of the family had one in cream white, it was a beautiful car and so much better looking than any other car on the road in it's time except those high end sports cars, it could probably out perform many of them as well.

My mother had a small Citroen AX back in the 90's and I was with her when a box wagon BACKED into her, it damaged the tail light on this huge wagon but barely even scratched the AX so very well built indeed, I know a mechanic that swears by Renault as well and only ever drives one.

A few years ago, a friend in Seattle was living in a neighborhood called Madrona. This wealthy older guy down the block had an XKE (I think it was a 1964) that was British racing green. What a beautiful car! He rarely drove it. To my horror, I found out he left it outside in the elements. It rains a lot there, and the neighborhood is filled with trees and shrubs, so that Jag was always covered with leaves, dust and dirt.

Every man with more money than testosterone just made the biggest frowny face of their life reading your post.

The sound of all those shattered dreams, louder than any V-8 ever made.

That car is sooo cool! I love it!!

The wheels are especially catchy.
But…….if I had to control a car with my mind we all might be in trouble!
I just don’t think I want to wear a headband to drive a car.
