Ok, this is my theory on the subject. Many people around the New Jersey have been it, but it can't exist, right. So I just heard on a podcast that the Jersey or Leads Devil is actually an evolution of Ben Franklin trolling a man named Titan Leads and getting him named the "Leads Devil". Benny was a world class troll, we all know this. The problem is, many people have seen it. This is true of hauntings and mothman and such. If you believe it, they will come.

I heard this theory on the Chillumanati podcast.

For those unfamiliar with tulpas, another random video:

So a Tulpa is an imaginary identity that a person creates in the belief that the then created Tupla is real.
Mental illness on a plate.

It's not a sign of good mental health to be well adapted to a sick society.

Imagine this, just as a mental exercise, to be the underling construct of reality, and see how far you get before questioning your sanity?

Reality is stranger than fiction

It want me!

It's not a theory I've heard about regarding the Jersey Devil. I suppose some hauntings could be the result of multiple concentrated thoughts of people who already think a place is haunted.

I'm sure someone theorised that the Loch Ness Monster was a dinosaur ghost but don't recall where I read that.

a reply to: Tulpa interestingly a good portion of poltergeist hauntings are the result of the victim essentially haunting themselves. It can manifest during puberty when their hormones are all over the place or during a time of great stress. So this doesn't seem that far fetched to me

The Colin Wilson book Poltergeist makes a pretty strong case for that theory. Been a long time since I read that but there's another of his books, either Mysteries or The Occult, I don't recall just now, but a group of psychic researchers tried to create their own haunting.

Details are fuzzy in my memory so forgive me but I think they created a back story for a fictional character then tried to contact him during seances. I'd have to dig it out and read it again but , allegedly, they had some success and it was connected to a reported "sighting" of a ghost in the general area in which the back story was set. A tenuous link but one they seemed pleased to accept.

Perhaps that was an example of wishful thinking more than anything but a fascinating experiment.

Regarding the above podcast; I'm finding it hard going because the presenters seem full of youthful exuberance and keep shouting over each other and interrupting but I'll keep going.

Also. Now it's too late to edit my earlier post, I wrote "want" and it should've said "wasn't" .

Reminds me of the Mobile Leprechaun...

Besides what would any place be without a legend of some sort?

Wow this place is booooor-ring and no one wants to go there but it would make a nice place to live if we could only get people to go there. Quick lets make up some legend and some circumstantial evidence etc or whatever.

Same as whiskey and whores and a sheriff trying to get miners out of their gold in the old West; some one thought geee gold mining must be difficult and boring let's go bother the miners and try to get some easier than all that digging panning and prospecting. Whiskey and a vagina is fools gold alright just ask any sheriff.

I don't know if any of the OP history is correct and just like the Jersey Devil is real or not it doesn't matter to me; it's fun and mysterious. Lots of places have that but some not so famous. Nevada whew whee how are we gonna get more visitors and gas stations out here? Visitors... like those people trying to go to space in that area over yonder we get from time to time, or them aliens jumping the Mexico US line by walking across it?

Go to Arizona it's the only state where gold is found in every county sometimes just laying there.

Other than that the slate belt

Other than that find a dike and look for a inner hook where one river becomes two if there is black sand present there's gold there. It's heavy so think of the materials you're looking at... sometimes nuggets get trapped between larger rocks.

Silver fouls and craps grows on it not with gold.

Be sure to carry a rock hammer and get an eye for gem stones so the gold and panning or sluicing doesn't keep the adventure from being altogether fruitless.

I see it all in good fun ...no matter what it is there ever could be; When anything gets serious? Fun has zero room.

That poor tree though... leave it alone the gold was in that woman's face believing she saw one of the wee folk and that's about it.
