The Colin Wilson book Poltergeist makes a pretty strong case for that theory. Been a long time since I read that but there's another of his books,
either Mysteries or The Occult, I don't recall just now, but a group of psychic researchers tried to create their own haunting.
Details are fuzzy in my memory so forgive me but I think they created a back story for a fictional character then tried to contact him during seances.
I'd have to dig it out and read it again but , allegedly, they had some success and it was connected to a reported "sighting" of a ghost in the
general area in which the back story was set. A tenuous link but one they seemed pleased to accept.
Perhaps that was an example of wishful thinking more than anything but a fascinating experiment.
Regarding the above podcast; I'm finding it hard going because the presenters seem full of youthful exuberance and keep shouting over each other and
interrupting but I'll keep going.
Also. Now it's too late to edit my earlier post, I wrote "want" and it should've said "wasn't" .
