i worked at Walmart stores for years. shipping containers are quite common at this time of year (as are tent like structures put up inside garden centers). it is to hold things like Christmas stock, and other winter stock. for instance we normally had several just to hold our stock of snow tires. which generally numbered 200 or 300 hundred extra tires in stock (on top of the normal 300-400 tires we kept in stock, and had space for), which are only delivered a few times at the very beginning of winter, and except for transferring between stores, all we would get for the winter. we would normally end up with two or tree shop bays filled with stacked tires as well at that time, until containers would become available to use.

bikes being built for Christmas, and ready to be put out when needed again numbering in the hundreds was another use of such space. (in fact every spring we would end up throwing out something like 50-100 bikes that had rust damage from being kept out in the garden center in the tents, which always had issues with tearing and leaking). Christmas trees, decorations, snow shovels, toboggans, toys, etc. were also among things shipped in early, and in huge lots, again one or two time delivery for the season, are also stored in them, especially since such things that really couldn't be put out until after remembrance day (Canada), Thanksgiving (US). not to mention all the extra stock, yet again brought in in big lots, early for black Friday sales. and we can't forget about the anniversary sale, where yet again stuff was brought in early, and in big lots. with for the two last mentioned, you might have ten SKIDS each, of many different products in stock, with nowhere else to put them for each of those sales.

in fact pretty much ALL the stores i worked which with doing some extra hours floating was pretty much every store in the district, would have anywhere from 30-60 containers full of stock, at this time of year, and those with grocery sections also have several reefers (which have to be fed fuel all the time), to keep cold and frozen foods, every year. Walmart does not actually have much stockroom space in their stores. nor any real warehousing to keep stock. when changing over from another store, the first thing they do is take out almost all of the old stockroom space to convert to sales floor space. since it is corporate belief that almost all stock is kept on the sales floor with their automatic ordering/replenishment systems, mostly direct fro the manufacturer or supplier, (which has NEVER WORKED), supposedly keeping everything in stock with on-time delivery of goods. department managers actually get in trouble when items are out of stock. so at this extremely busy time of year Walmart stores have no choice but to bring in all these containers to hold the stock they need. because they have no choice but to have all that stock on hand, and nowhere else to put it, but to rent them every year. thanks to really bad and idiotic, corporate policies and beliefs in systems that have never worked (and likely will never work).

the reasons you may have never noticed them before, is that you have just never paid attention to them. or that they may have even more than normal this year due to the proposed shortage of goods, requiring them to bring in even more stock than normal try try not to run out. causing containers to be placed in more noticeable areas then is normally the case. they do like to keep them in the back, or far corners of parking lots, where most people are less likely to notice them.

as to grocery sections being shut down. guess what, this is seasonal changeover time, which happens several times a year (although normally not as much for most of the grocery sections except during this time of year). and which happens at almost every store at the same time. when home office sends out the new layout plans for every section, that departments must change everything to adhere to. a job that is both long and very annoying. requiring sections to be blocked off and emptied, so it can be done. and you MUST stick to the plans they give, any items not in the specific, and specific laid out sizes, of those plans (other than the small amount of "flex space"), and you get in big trouble. Walmart actually has warehouses and staff, as well as all shelving (actually more), and product the biggest store has. where all they do, all year is design the layout plans for each and every individual store, for each and every item in that store. and when they change a product packaging, which always seems to happen, it really screws things up. because every little change to said plan, requires home office approval. so remember, don't bitch to employees or even managers about where products are,or how much can fit on a shelf, creating a shortage of a product you want. that is ALL decided by home office, based on things like popularity and past sales, projected popularity and sales, as well as the manufacturers/product companies paying, or giving deals on their products to get them placed where, and how many they want on the shelf. and if you thought getting in trouble with home office is bad when a shelf unit needs to be rearranged due to a change in someones packaging, it's nothing like the vendor coming in and freaking out about their product being moved, or space decreased because they paid for it to be in a specific spot.

Isn't this simply due to the wider produce shortages that are effecting the country.

Production slowed during covid and companies ran down their warehouse stock. Now they cannot keep up with demand.

It's just a supply chain problem.

I don’t shop at wal mart so I couldn’t tell you however at my other local grocery store they all of a sudden wanted to remodel so now the store only has half the shelves it used to have apparently because of that but everytime I go it never seems like much progress is being made even though they claim the works being done at night since they axed their 24 hour schedule.

if it's like Walmart, they may only have a crew of maybe 10 people doing it at night. and it is a lot of hard work. it can literally take a couple or more hours just to empty an isle of shelves, then move them around to where they are needed. then it can take a few hours to set up said shelving to match the plan you are given to place the merchandise (seriously counting holes in pegboard or shelving slots is a pain and very time consuming. and one error, noticed later can mean having to start all over gain. or realizing the shelf is not quite in the right spot to begin with, which means emptying it and starting over). and then you have to dig up all of the stock that goes there, from where it is crammed into buggies stashed somewhere or other, and even from a different isle to stock them. it used to take up to two weeks just to do one department, using four or five people, 8 hours a day, plus even some (useless), part timer help. a gigantic pain in the A$$. and if it is anything like Walmart, those plans must be followed exactly, or else.

This or the containers are going to be used for an upcoming remodel. Happens all the time where they use shipping containers to store construction materials and the existing stock from the areas they are remodeling.

Grocery shopped tonight and tp is almost wiped out (pun intended) and certain items are limit restricted,
Pasta sauce max 2 jars, spices etc.
Red meat looked terrible. Veggies and fruit looked good. Other items that were low are now fully stocked.

I do not shop at Wal Mart. I cant stand that place. I shop at a few different grocery stores and not ONE is low on anything nor are there limits.

That video has ZERO source information just random videos with no background whatsoever. I can come up with all kinds of apocalyptic scenarios too.

I don't shop at Walmart in person, but their online store and service are top notch!

I just bought a new laptop there. It was on sale. HP laptop with Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD and more ports than you could shake a stick at. Total with tax $211.34.

No other seller could even come close.

And they delivered it next day - free.

Even Amazon was left in the dust and I'm a Prime customer and I shop there a lot.

Your mileage may vary, void where prohibited, etc.

The shipping containers are being sent out because the ports are
so jacked up they have to send them out as many as possible. Not
enough employees at Wal mart to unload them as fast as they're
being delivered.

The one here outside L.A. is packed.

Same happens here in Seattle, our port is backed up and has less workers in the port yet tons of trucks lined up to receive containers, which causes traffic of trucks backed up for miles

The fred meyers near me has their back lot storing containers since they always seem to be remodeling and need to store product.

The staff sure doesn't seem to be ex military type, so hopefully freddys doesn't turn into a FEMA camp, besides it's surrounded by homeless tents and RVs, like a scene outta walking dead

Our stores are starting to go thru sporadic temporary shortages, as well as strange super deals as they are sitting on tons of stuff that now needs to move because it got there late. Supply chains are seriously messed up and we are just starting to see the beginning of it... dominoes anyone?

*EMERGENCY WALMART UPDATE*

I just went to my local Walmart, and they were out of Sara Lee blueberry cheesecake. Something didn't feel right.

So I went about shopping for the rest of my provisions, and they only had unsalted roasted almonds... This is where things started to get serious.

I knew it was time to go. But on my way out there was a Chinaman speaking gibirish to me, but I think he was pointing at my arm and saying something about a tattoo. Have people already started getting their numbers assigned?

Concentration camps confirmed.

China invation confirmed.

Thanks Biden.

i generally recommend staying away from Walmart for computers. unless you are looking for something cheap, and don't care if it's old and outdated. and looking it up $200 seems to be a decent price for an HP like yours. the I5 chips hail from about 2010. and i wouldn't go below 16GB ram on a new computer. although it should be fine for basic usage, such as with my old 2010 or 2012 laptop (ironically with the I5 2.5ghz processor and 8gb ram in it). but you can always upgrade the RAM fairly cheap. i would be a little concerned about only having a 256gb hard drive. i have enough space issues with 1TB hard drives on my computers.

haven't ever done their online ordering myself, but i haven't heard anything bad about it. who do they ship with?

You hit it on the head. It's not my primary machine - it's just something I wanted to have when I didn't feel comfortable bringing the Lenovo Ideapad.

The capacity of the SSD sucks - no doubt. Already looking at a SanDisk 512GB external for about $100.

I also like HP laptops because I've owned a few in the past and they're beasts. Really hard to kill. As far as performance, it's fine for what I'll use it for. No hardcore gaming on this rig.

The final reason it was so cheap at Walmart is that it was listed as a refurbished model. I have no idea what got "re-furbed" all I know is that everything is working great now. It also come with a 1 year warranty so I figured I couldn't go too far wrong.

Not sure if anyone else has seen this video, or if this is happening in many/several major U.S. cities. I actually live in a small city with two walmarts. But apparently some people are reporting once again strange things occurring in some major city Walmarts. So far this has not happened where I live.

Things being reported and shown on the video include like many shipping containers being held at parking lots in some major city/cities' Walmarts, and entire sections with food being closed off with messages that they can't make those products available for some reason at that time. Also, it appears that a whole aisles of "prepper food" seems to have found it's way into some Walmarts.

I wanted to see if anyone else has noticed this happening in their state/city.

Here is the video.

The Walmarts being converted into detention centers by the Obama/Biden administrations started similarly to this story.

The first part was probably a power outage. Same thing happened at my local grocery store and they did everything they could to save the fresh veggies and keep the freezer cases closed. I regular a specific local grocery and asked one of the checkers I’ve been seeing for years what was going on and they told me - I believe them.

Can’t speak to the containers but given the amount of product that is in and moves through a Walmart it doesn’t really alarm me.
