Main reason is 8 months of winter makes it difficult to even ship things in. The primary reason that a lot of people do not live in Antarctica is because of fuel, and lack thereof. The whole place is focused on the fact that it does not generate energy Lets face it not fun drilling through miles of ice. the terrain is the coldest, driest, most unproductive continent lying at the bottom of the world.

Survival outside is limited to intrepid explorers with months of preparation and specialist equipment and clothing. Without a reasonable means of having shops, houses, entertainment places, and transport and with a consistently miserable climate, who would want to live there?

I can grow anything with some LED lights and some heat . They build Ice hotels and seed vaults and from what I hear it's pretty volcanic underneath all that Ice .
Igloos are insulated . Wood isn't available for fuel but there's enough space for solar panels and I'm pretty sure the winds can power some generators ..

I ve always wondered how antartica looked like during the ice age...and before. If sealevel was down some 100 meters at the time it can not be other than antartica being a well populated continent at the time....if it wasnt frozen as it is now of course.

It must be just the best job in the world to investigate antarica for previous civiliasations.

During the last ice age, the Antarctic ice sheets were more extensive than today - due, as you say, to lower sea levels meaning they had more land to spread across.

And the reason we don't have big settlements on Antarctic is quite simple: why would we? You can't grow anything there - all food needs to be shipped in - there's nothing to do (except climb a few hills and do scientific research) and mining is banned. Oh, and the beaches suck!

Well let's think about these LED lights for growing things that require energy not to mention a heating element for the room. Temperature can get to -80 F. Solar panels 6 months of darkness and then solar panels become almost useless do to the cold e lucky to get 10 percent of their power rating. Winds in Antarctica come in gusts and from varying directions do to the extreme cold so again windmills become useless. So that leaves generators that require fuel now think about how much fuel a hotel would need and the expense of shipping it there in the first place. Ice hotels are some protection from the cold ut not that much as even the one they build every year in Sweden stays at a very chilly 20 F. If room temperature
exceeds 32 F guess what happens. In Antarctica, those same rooms would be very close to zero. Not exactly comfy for a vacation.

Cruise ships being self-contained cities is ok but they were not designed for icy water so very risky.

Veeeery interesting... but nope, that's not it unless I saw it from another angle?

The pic I saw was app 3x larger/thicker (from the max zoomed view I assume) and one "arm" was up and the other out at waste level. It was also a distinct translucent greenish hue that stood out from the surrounding rocks and snow. If memory serves, it was off the mt range that runs up toward Argentina in the archipelago, not that that helps much.

I think she posted it on some blog 3 yrs ago... but it's not my find. I don't want to step on her toes and she kept the exact coordinates to herself, wisely if she's attempting to monetize the find or something, heh, though my own feelings are that land-forms or ancient statues should be free for all.

Please do not refer to it as "Antarctica". It's real name is Palmerland and my family members have a rightful claim to it. Our ancestor, Nathaniel Palmer put that place on the map and tried to sell it to the US but they denied the sale. So, title has been passed down to his progeny. If they develop our land anymore, or attempt to settle, we will seize their assets and kick them out... No joke.

There is something at the bottom of Lake Vostok. I know what it is and who put it there but I'm not saying on here.

Without going there anyone can say anything they like about that subglacial lake.

However I remember reading about a mysterious structure that was discovered (but never officially investigated) a structure, and it may not actually have anything to do with the NAZI's, it could actually be very ancient since it is an ancient symbol.


And the RUMOUR could be just click bait lies.

However are there story's other than operation High Jump that may back up a NAZI presence even if It was NOT related to any such structure in Vostok, well there is one that I know of but it is ropey at best and may not even be true.

While I believe it is a place with many mystery's if the NAZIS did get there they later relocated to South America and then probably to the United States itself but I suppose if they WERE there and the mysterious Seismic event about six month's after Byrd's operation High Jump left Antarctica may have just been an earth quake, a volcanic eruption or other natural event and not necessarily a nuclear device detonated beneath the ice or underground to destroy there operation there.

I actually call hoax on the Giant Swastika under the lake, there is no evidence that it links to the sea and the lifeforms found within it are unique so no NAZI's got there even if they did in other parts of the continent, if there is something and it is not a hoax then the remaining answers would be natural but very odd formation, ancient artefact from a previous civilization that would throw history into turmoil so would be disappeared anyway if they could do so, like Waffle rock in the US the remaining fragment of which on display despite looking like fossilized metallic floor grating is easily dismissed and bears resemblance to some natural phenomena but the rest of it now destroyed or buried under the lake was said to be FAR MORE convincing of an ancient artificial origin (very very ancient), or it could be Alien in origin which is pretty unlikely BUT Definitely a possibility as the Antarctic would be prime territory for an alien civilization to set up camp on our little world, lower temperatures keep most terrestrial pathogens at bay and while NOT actually sterile it is far more sterile than other area of the planet reducing the danger of biohazardous encounters or cross contamination for such an alien base and it's occupants (assuming they are biological).

Had the NAZI's reached that lake which we have had great difficulty getting to even with todays technology then they would have contaminated it, the only possibility of them reaching it would be via submarine but there appears to be NO link to the Antarctic ocean and the lake seems to have been isolated for millions of years under the ice.

But you know back to weird, scientists human OR otherwise find such lakes irresistible, isolated biospheres so it could just about and extremely remotely IF it was real be a relic left over from such a scientific endeavour, human or otherwise in origin.

Fact the NAZI's did lay claim to a huge portion of the continent, Fact Doenitz did claim to have built an impregnable fortress for Hitler at the far end of the world, Fact after the war many NAZI scientists and other Germans as well as huge amounts of gold, jewels and looted artefacts as well as probably some secret research vanished and remains unaccounted for even up to today, fact THREE MONTHS after Admiral Doenitz had ordered the German Navy including all it's U Boats to surrender one sailed into Argentina and surrendered there with rumours that it had been SOMEWHERE for those three months and a period leading up to the end of the war including rumours of a bandaged passenger whose face was hidden (a favourite for those that believe Hitler - vile evil man that he was - was alive and escaped the Allies and Russians retribution at the - official - end of the war), Fact Admiral Byrd was sent with a large military task force on a - Scientific - mission to Antarctica and left early having suffered casualty's including the loss of a destroyer.



Byrd made a statement in Argenina on his return warning of a threat from fast aircraft that could fly from pole to pole, he then disappeared from public view and was apparently hospitalized on a mental ward in 1955.
James Forrestal whom was one of his superiors FELL out of a window in 1949 after according to some wanting to tell the American public the truth about UFO's or perhaps it was about something else.

So which is the truth, A returning Hero whom disappears from view for over five years and ends up on a psychiatric ward? or something else and he was shut up and James Forrestal murdered because HE wanted to come clean as well.

There is nothing on Antarctica. There was nothing green about it either.

You know they burned Giordano Bruno at the stake for claiming the world was a sphere, there will always be nut cases in both camp's.

You do NOT know that it never happened and I do not know that it DID but I do know that there are persistent rumours dating back decades, that Bird made a speech in Argentina warning of aircraft that could fly from pole to pole as well as an earlier warning that was more believable about aircraft that could cross the poles (a reality during the cold war) and pose a threat to the US and it's allies, I also know that he then disappeared after being told to shut his mouth following that warning to the world he gave in Argentina and was not seen until the 1950's when he was in a psychiatric facility.

His direct superior and secretary of Defence for the US James Forrestal was killed and his death called a Suicide just two years later and many in the UFO community have linked it to a cover up of UFO information while very few have pointed out the obvious link to operation High Jump.

By the time of operation High Jump many senior NAZI's including Werner Von Braun had been taken to the States through operation paperclip and several other more clandestine operations, the surviving almost intact war era NAZI intelligence network was kept active with the help of the US and many of it's heads given cushy numbers and funding by the US despite there wartime crimes, this led to a subversion of the US own intelligence community over time as well as the ongoing protection and hiding of there crimes with the aid of the US whom thought they were and would be an invaluable tool to face off against there new enemy the Soviet Union.

So it is possible that if there ever was something in Antarctica it either ended up in South America behind the walls of a German Colony there or even in the US with the blessing and cooperation of some Evil Men within the US own intelligence and military industrial infrastructure though it also possible the NAZI would have wanted to keep a trump card for a rainy day so may have maintained a secret operation unknown to or with the blessing the US, they did have the protection and backing of the Black Budget crowd within the US and the US had all the resources they needed as well as there intelligence network which may still have in part been working for them?.

But the UFO phenomena has been a great smokescreen as well.


I would urge you to read this now aging but very enlightening book by a former Janes Aviation investigative journalist and then think again but not everyone is into book's these day's so take it or leave it, I read it back in the very early 90's.
