They were incredible. The forgotten girly rock band that set the heat in the early 1970s

Hello ATS!

I have a little weakness. I am a music lover and a lover of the good old rock music of the 60-70s. Of course, my exclusive love is Pink Floyd, Uriah Heep and The Beatles, but there are many rock bands that I thought were genius. It is a shame when some of them are undeservedly forgotten. I want to correct this injustice at least a little.

Today I want to introduce you to a girl rock band that the vast majority of you don't know, even though the girls did incredible things. This is Fanny, one of the first well-known all-girl rock bands and the first to release an album on a major label. In 1969, the combat musicians signed to Reprise Records. They are, in my opinion, at least as cool as Led Zeppelin, and sometimes even cooler.

The lineup includes sisters June and Jean Millington, who moved from the Philippines to California in 1961, drummer Alice de Boer, and vocalist / keyboardist Nicky Barkley, who not only wrote songs and sang great, but also brought soul, blues and funk to general sound of the group. The girls resisted the record company’s suggestions to dress in the typical girl group style. But they rehearsed hard to earn a reputation based not on looks, but solely on talent.

They recorded at Apple's Beatles Studios, played on Barbra Streisand's album, toured with Jethro Tull and Slade. Inspired by the whole galaxy of female groups of the next generations. But nowadays very few people remember them.

David Bowie said of them: “They were incredible: they wrote, they acted like crazy, they were just colossal and wonderful, and no one ever mentioned them. They are as important as everyone who was back then. It's just that it was not their time. "

Check out what they did to the Beatles' "Hey Bulldog":

Girls and now, being grandmothers for a long time, anneal like young ones. See how beautiful they are:

And in general, Long Live Rock 'n' Roll !!!

Thanks.

Damn, I consider myself a decent rock enthusiast and have never even heard of them, Hell they bring it pretty sweet for a woman's band. Lots of energy Janis Jopinesque.

It seems to me that Janis Joplin has a completely different tone of voice. As a child, until I saw her photo, I thought that she was black. But the expression is similar.
But I'm a fan of another woman. This is Suzi Quatro)))

Any decent obscure rock collector worth his salt should know who Fanny is. Your collection isn't complete without them.

Have to say tho, the lyrics are a bit wrong.... I'm a bull frog, living in the city, don't tell me anything, because I like dolphins... dark hair and rain clouds, cover my new shoes, never mind the funny stuff, because I prefer balloons...

Or something.. O.o

Good tunes but..

Nothing other than that Allan "Taff" Freeman was Syd Barrett's childhood friend, I don't know. The progressive rock they play provides space for fantasy from backyard bands to super-professional ones. But I don’t understand the style, excuse me. I listened to their album Remember The Future 1973. There were many such bands in England at that time. Each progressive group was looking for some of their own moves in rock music, since then there was room for creativity. Most of them left no trace.
Sorry friend, but I have no desire to play at least one part of the guitar, at least one part on keyboards and cover at least one song. But this is a matter of taste.
In some places it even sounds cool)))

Ever heard any early Aerosmith lyrics?
A mishmash of semi-rhyming words that really make no sense.
