You know, so I was sitting here thinking of this recent squeeze on christmas..gifts or whatever and noticing that in all the main stores like Walmart and such that another thing, toilet paper again, was one of those missing items. It took me back to the recent crisis that I never really understood about toilet paper going missing and people fighting in the aisles and it got me thinking, crisis hits: boom with the toilet paper again.

It's as if for whatever reason the only thing people can think to panic about is thin reeds of (maybe scented*) paper by which they wipe their butts, and got me to realize how s out of luck most people are that they can only jump to the conclusion: world on fire? Think I need a roll of toilet paper.

Think about it. What the hell does a prepper need with a roll of tp? World ends: ah paper. I just found it funny that the connection is being forged between consumption of a consumer good with crisis. And I couldn't care less, except I notice that there are a thousand ways of not fretting about tp when you're roughing in in the woods, albeit yes it is a bit easier to take out a roll and use it in a fast situation you don't feel like hiking somewhere else. I don't know what do you guys think? Gotta keep the sheep on the path? Alright, peace out.

There's plenty of toilet paper in the U.S. We just don't have enough truckers to move it around fast enough. Any local shortages are most likely temporary. I notice my local shortages are often just for a day or two.

So preppers absolutely need toilet paper. It's an amazing trade item if it comes down to it, everyone loves their creature comforts and being able to keep those folks would trade quite a lot for that. I'm astounded that people didn't fit bidets to their toilets last year, I know I did at my apartment and made sure my builder installed them in my new house. I still keep TP on hand because even with a dryer on the bidet you still want to keep clean and dry, I just use considerably less.

It looks like I was overlooking the obvious. I have one of those fancy japanese toilets that washes you, a well, septic, generator, and solar system. Toilet paper is not high on my list for shelter in place needs.

That's good and all until you realize you're using an extra 1/8 gallon of water to spray your brown star in a time you need to conserve whatever water you have.

I get your point about the first few sentences, but if we are going to get really technical, there are people who rough it in preparation for more extreme scenarios than that, and when it runs out I mean, what are you going to do, fashion it out of sticks?

Much like tamusan I'm sitting on a well that has a fantastic aquifer, pump, septic, and solar with battery storage that will operate that aspect.

I mean, at some point, all of this s^$# is going to run out if we want to get really technical. .-

I think most people just miss the simplicity of the TP shortage last year.

Just think about it. TP is non-perishable so it keeps forever. TP is cheap. To most people, the thought of wiping their bunghole with their hand is not an option. So yeah...let's run out and buy 8,000 rolls of TP; it'll get used someday, and I'm definitely not wiping the poop chute with my bare hand. So, why not??

Just knowing the way people in developed countries think, TP is the obvious candidate to fly off the store shelves.

Simple!

P.S. I'd be willing to wager that 97% of the people who went nutso and filled all their spare rooms to the ceiling with TP thought exactly this as they picked up their (2) 48-packs of TP every single time they went to the store! When stores started limiting purchases, I literally saw whole families show up at the store and go in the store, one by one, and get the max they could. They'd be waiting for each other out in the parking lot, giving the next kid money to go in and buy his share. Want to motivate a kid? Tell him he's gonna' have ka-ka fingers unless he does his part!

They taught the one sheet method in the Army.

You take ONE sheet and you fold it twice. Cut out the corner and save the piece for later. THEN you stick only ONE finger thru the hole and will only have one to wash. Use the spare piece to clean your finger nail.

uuuuugh..

That was a real speech I heard at Ft McClellan AL in training.

I carried a roll of Charmin in the ruck on bivouacs. No need to be silly.

Oh, thank god. Since it's already been over 4 months, we should see them actually do something about the shortages any minute now.
