And surgeons are just organic mechanics.

Mechanics hands get covered in oil and grease.
Surgeons hands in blood.

Mechanics fix clogged hoses, clean filters ect.
Surgeons do the same with arteries.

Very much thought and design go into these things

Exactly. self-awareness, emotions, rationality, self-healing and replication abilities that can last over a hundred years is a very impressive feat. There is No way the human intellect could come close to artificially replicating a human from scratch at this time
