Sounds like a homework assignment. But, that noted: the best jobs are usually hired on the basis of WHO one knows, not what one knows. Networking is practically everything.

Other than that, if you're targeting a specific position, make sure your CV brings out how well you can perform the duties. Don't sell yourself short and don't tell lies. What your CV should do is get you an initial interview. After that, much depends on your knowledge and social skills.

Cheers

There are many ways of writing a CV. Everyone has an opinion. Google will provide you with so many answers as will people here. I have not written a resume in awhile, and it is all digital. It is now in a portal and I just update it as things change.

The best way to get a job: Network. Use LinkedIn, join groups, talk to people in your career field and find recruiters. Go to hiring events too. You can go to a temp agency and they can also help you with your resume. They will tell you what to put on it, what to leave off.

If you are looking for a specific job, you want to write your resume to mimic the description they post....as long as you fit that description of course.

There is no black and white answer, because it depends upon the career. Medical verse retail verse technical will all require different types of CV/Resumes.

GOOD LUCK!

I was over maintenance for many years at a company with three plants. From experience, the guy with the best resume was the worst worker and knew nothing that he should have already known by his resume. If the company you are applying with has any actual hiring experience, they will be suspicious of a too good ‘perfect’ resume.

As was said above, it has a lot more to do with who you know and not how you advertise yourself. My uncle helped me get my first job and from there it has always been knowing someone.

I found my current job taking care of a house. The owner was selling stuff trough eBay. One day a guy comes to pick up a Persian carpet, we got to talk, he is my boss now.

There are lots of examples online as far as form, but I’ll share what will really get you the job vs. a nice looking resume.

When you find a job listing, lets say for company xyz, it’s all about KEY WORDS.
Let’s say they are looking for excel experience, green plastics experience, attention to detail, and on and on.
You have to put those EXACT KEY words in your resume every time for every job listing. What HR does, or the recruiting company does is run the resume through a system (a lot of times automated) to look for those key words. If you don’t have enough of them, it will show you as not being a match. The more of those key words you can shove in the resume the better.

Remember the object is to get the interview, so do what you need to proceed.

I see dozens of resumes a week and have seen some real winners.

Keep the actual resume to one page.
Cover letters and references can be separate pages of course.
Please spell and use grammar properly.

I don't have the time to read a book or try to understand someone's babblings.

That being said.
There are lots of good videos on YouTube that will guide you.

Some jobs require a CV for more than just getting a job.

My job does not require a CV, but one is needed to participate in some of the duties and expectations related to my job. As some have said, there are a number of ways to construct a CV. Google does have a selection of CV templates to choose from.

I would suggest a style that is easy to read. It should be a simple description of what you brings to the table, your education and training, your work experiences, your skills. Make it professional but not presumptuous.

I have to update mine about every two years, and to be honest, I have never written one that I can say have been thrilled with.

I hope someone here will be able to give you better help than I have.

Also for the love of God, do not say things like "critical thinker" and "team player" and "go getter"...

Those phrases will immediately get you placed in the circular file cabinet.
"Well , figuratively, I have to keep resumes on file for legal reasons"

'Contortionist' is another way of saying 'team player'.

Chances are so much higher if you know what the company is doing and maybe have genuine questions about a former project. It shows interest in the work. This is something for the personal talk when you're invited.

There smaller the company, the bigger the chances are you get through with a non conform resume. When I wrote mine, I did not use a template but designed it like it's a info sheet, all info on one look, the next page had written text about myself and what I deem important. It was instant entry, when they asked me if I have other companies on the lookout, I told them the truth and said yes, but only few, because (and they really liked that) i said like:

"I won't hire just at "some" company, I choose to apply here because it sticks out to me what is done here and I like to be part of it".

But it worked because it was the truth

You are right. Truth and honesty always makes you a winner, whether you get the job or not.

I just realized the reason I hate writing my CV so much, is because of how it is used.

It is supposed to display my job experience, skills, training, and status. I hate that many think of it as a way to determine if someone is an expert.

Personally, I dont think anyone can be an expert when it comes to the human body, human mind, or behavior.

The best we can say is that we are familiar, skilled, and knowledgeable. Expert doesn't seem to make much room for error. Something being human is guaranteed.

Plain and simple

I just graduated from college after four years of goofing off and being awakened.
I want to start at no less than one hundred fifty thousand a year.

I look forward to a bright future.

My wife is an employment specialist/social worker.

Make it a single pg, only note highlights, references etc. Not everything certainly.

Focus on metrics and experience. Keep it to one page even if you have to trim some previous roles. Place key words at the top e.g.; Salesforce, Accounting, Programming, etc.

Never put DB as a reference.
