I just read in Danish media that Facebook employes can't get to work because their access cards don't work. They can't get into the building. FB is still down here, btw.

Well that at least shows proper separation of duties in place. Then again this type of thing doesn't happen when you have a full plan in place for updates. Is the update needed? What is the impact of the update? How much time is needed for testing of the update before going live? What is the estimated duration of work on the update? What are our communications if the update does not go as planned? What is our rollback strategy if the update causes issues? What is our secondary rollback strategy in the event of issues? etc. etc. etc.

Buddy of mine that works for FB has confirmed that is accurate, physical access is needed but not currently possible.

Yep, I don't give two craps either, I don't have accounts on them. It's more a kind of Schadenfreude type of "entertainment" when they go down and people flip out over it. I get a moderately amusing kick out of watching people go bat guano because they can't get a SM fix immediately.

You have used modern Windows operating systems for too long. Delete doesn't mean 'put into 'recycle bin''.

Delete means 'erase completely', as it was in the DOS times and before. You don't delete anything 'INTO' anything, you just delete something, which means that something ceases to exist.
