Evening ATS Colleagues.
Not had chance to read this fully while on the train but too good not to post

www.bbc.co.uk...

The secret wealth and dealings of world leaders, politicians and billionaires has been exposed in one of the biggest leaks of financial documents.

Some 35 current and former leaders and more than 300 public officials are featured in the files from offshore companies, dubbed the Pandora Papers.

They reveal the King of Jordan secretly amassed £70m of UK and US property.

They also show how ex-UK PM Tony Blair and his wife saved £312,000 in stamp duty when they bought a London office.

The couple bought an offshore firm that owned the building.

The leak also links Russian President Vladimir Putin to secret assets in Monaco, and shows the Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis - facing an election later this week - failed to declare an offshore investment company used to purchase two villas for £12m in the south of France.

It is the latest in a string of leaks over the past seven years, following the FinCen Files, the Paradise Papers, the Panama Papers and LuxLeaks.

We need a good solid leak that shows all of the offshores/trusts/foundations/IBCs/etc for north american politicians as well, meaning Canada and the US (plus some Aussies and NZs would be good too). We know they have them from third party information, it would just be nice to have copies of the actual documents.

Cheers - Dave

When the panama papers came out all the criminals named therein got off scott free- the only thing that happened was the vile murder of one of the Journalists who was brave enough to report/blog about the revelations in the papers about her government(Malta).

Her name was Daphne Caruana Galizia, and she was murdered in a car bombing(no one found responsible).

www.theguardian.com...

A brave woman, doing actual investigative journalism- something which has sadly become very rare these days.

It's utterly hilarious how U.S. politicians will accuse leaders from damn near every other country of being corrupt, when U.S. politicians are just as bad, and in many cases, much worse.

The ink on this scandal report hasn't even dried yet:
2020 congressional insider trading scandal

Several members of the United States Senate violated the STOCK Act by selling stock at the start of COVID-19 pandemic in the United States and just before a stock market crash on February 20, 2020, using knowledge given to them at a closed Senate meeting.

The Department of Justice initiated a probe into the stock transactions on March 30, 2020.

No charges were brought against anyone and all investigations into the matter are closed.

I could have sworn we saw dozens of threads about the pandora papers before 2019- as far back as 2015 or maybe 2014 even... but I can't find a single one.

Did I imagine that whole thing? when the papers were leaked and corrupt rich people all over the world were exposed and the TV barely touched on it... then nobody was punished?

Justice only affects people who aren't rich enough to afford lawyers. Which basically means that all the most successful lawyers have been collared by all the most successful criminals.

I believe Congress —in one of the most blatantly corrupt moves by that body— exempted themselves from Insider Trading regulations. If I remember correctly, this was after the Hillary Cattle Futures scandal and shortly after Martha Stewart did time for Insider Trading. I believe her defense argued (and proved) that Congressmen and women routinely profit from their dealings with corporate leaders as part of their ‘oversight’, which led to charges of Equal Protection. So they fixed it. Presto! Congress is henceforth exempt.

Like the Panama Papers, this too shall pass...sad but true

Too many high ranking officials connected in this stuff, including bankers, politicians, gazillionares, judges...it will all go away. Obviously I wish it would not and justice will be served, but I lost my faith in such at the beginning of this century and my pitchfork has cobwebs on it.

read this yesterday in dailymail.

Corruption starts at the very very top... yet these people always seem to get away with it and the people lower down always get sent to prison.
