Great post Jane.

What can I say, I got caught up in it on Saturday.

Since the beginning of lockdown I've done my parents shopping for them - they are both in their late 70's and are still full time carers for my younger brother who is physically and mentally handicapped.

As I approached the local Morrisons I noticed that there was a bigger than normal queue at the petrol station.
I did the shopping and I got talking to the cashier at the till who told me that Morrisons have plenty of fuel but they only get one delivery a week - on a Tuesday - and that they were running short.

As I came out of the supermarket I managed to nip into the petrol station.
I noticed that everybody was filling up, nobody seemed to be putting ten or twenty quids worth in.
When it was my turn I couldn't help but fill my tank up - it was already about a third full, but I put just over another £50 worth in.

I drive to work and its about a 20 mile round trip each day.

Later on Saturday I went out for a few pints.
I use one of my taxi driver mates almost every time I go out, I can use him up to 5 or 6 times on a day out depending on where I'm going etc.
He told me that he'd spent just over an hour driving around looking for somewhere to fill up.
This guy needs to top up on a regular basis, its his livelihood.

Yes, we know there's plenty of petrol and we know there's a lot of scaremongering.
But people need to know they have enough fuel to get to work and back every day, its hardly surprising that they/we fall for the bollocks spread by MSM.

As for the HGV driver shortage;
Drivers have to do their Class 2 before they can take their Class 1 test.
Go back to the old system, even if its just a temporary fix, and let drivers with say 8 years experience go straight for their Class 1 licence.
With all the money this government has spent, and in some cases wasted, since the pandemic started, I don't see why they can't fund retraining for those who wish to qualify as a HGV 1 driver.

Mate, that's nothing compared to what goes on in almost every kebab and pizza shop in every town and city the length and breadth of the UK on a Friday and Saturday night....generally because some guy got his large Doner Kebab before another blokes 12inch Inferno.

Drivers have to do their Class 2 before they can take their Class 1 test.

The government are changing the rules , you will no longer have to take a class 2 test before your class one , hitching , unhitching and reversing will no longer be part of the test , that will be left to training companies to sign off on .... stupid move.

In the old days there was less traffic on the roads and trailers were smaller , rushing people through their test in a 44 tonne truck is a recipe for disaster and will result in more accidents and death caused by barely qualified drivers.

I'm an HGV driver and this problem has existed for years , it's been made worse by the government not including foreign HGV drivers on the list of necessary workers being allowed into the country to work.

For years we've suffered low wages and long hours , now all of a sudden we're needed so wages have jumped but hours and conditions are still poor , turning up to a delivery and being made to wait hours to unload , not being allowed to use facilities at a drop site and living in your cab are just some of the reasons people have left the industry , I nearly quit last year but got a job driving for the NHS , better working conditions and regular hours .... haulage sucks.

Case in point uploaded a couple of days ago.

I'll bow to your greater experience.
Not having reversing as part of the test strikes me as being bloody dangerous to say the least considering the size of the things. I suspect its a whole different ball game to reversing a family car around a corner.

It sort of appealed to me - I like my own company and don't mind tramping around - but I know the money was relatively crap considering the conditions.

I've been driving since I was 17 years old and the only offences I've had have been one for speeding and one drink driving when I was much younger - I won't even have a half and drive now.
Never had an accident of any sort - touch wood.
Given the correct training I don't think it would be that much of a risk to train people similar to me.....but as I said before, you're infinitely more experienced than me in this field.

All jobs have their ups and downs.

This sums it up perfectly.

"I'm only queuing because everybody else is"

Sheeples .

The lady in the clip said "I'm only queuing because everybody else is".

How is she a sheeple?

If there is a queue to get petrol then of course she has to queue.... because everyone else is.

Is it possible to get petrol without queuing?

Seems a very accurate account.

Most of the government front bench have millions invested in oil futures and have made a couple of million each in donations from oil companies in return for voting against climate action.

The couple of people I know who used to drive HGVs/Tankers quit a few years back and would never go back into it due to terrible emploment conditions and constantly being messed around by loading/unloading times at ports and restrictions on the ammount of hours they can drive/be in the vehicle.

Scrapping/reducing safety standards to plug the gap seems like it'd cause a huge increase in road deaths and cause some experienced ones to quit the profession in disgust - especially in Winter when it's not uncommon for the drivers to have to reverse up/around corners on sheet ice with inch perfect precision.

In the UK the phrase means more 'I don't need the item, I'm saw others panic buying so joined them'.

Haven't seen any queues locally but one place was out of diesel and the BP garage has a £30 cap on filling up.

How is she a sheeple?

If you had listened to what she said you wouldn't have had to ask.
"I need a bit of petrol" , she doesn't need it because she's nearly out of petrol she just wants to fill her tank.

Is it possible to get petrol without queuing?

No , because there are many Sheeple like her doing the same thing , if they just went to fill up when they need petrol this problem wouldn't be happening , I need petrol but because of the idiots it looks like I'm going to have to walk the 5 miles to work and 5 miles back home from Thursday.
