It's texas southern university.

It's really interesting being an almost 40 year old white dude going to a historically black university.

Everyone is pretty cool though.

Its out of frustration IMO. I mean when a woman can name any man she wants on a birth certificate and he has to pay child support.....well you can see why some go this way.

Not to mention losing half no matter what....

Its sad on both sides and getting worse.

Two sides to this. Aholes are aholes, male or female, and probably not as common as the damage they do to our lives makes it seem.

I was married, we planned the kids, he continued drinking and wouldn't lift a finger except to write bad cheques for booze/smokes on my account. I lived in the same house 20 years and he never once visited the kids or tried to connect despite living only a few hours away. Not a penny from him ever nor did I try for it. These abusive people exist but the stereotypes don't help those who legitimately struggle.

I don't know if that makes sense. Guess I'm trying to say I was with an abusive man but most men (vast majority) are not like that and that the rhetoric against women can get pretty unfair. Most are not like that either.

Very well said. You know, I always say (have said here more than once), Martin Luther King defined my viewpoint on race with equity of Scripture. He said that I should judge a man, not by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character. What could possibly be more true? You, above, expressed this very same notion, but instead of applying it to race, you applied it to gender. It is no less valid nor any less true. Agreed.

People going college around here wind up working at the sub shop or at a grocery store or department store. Or they get a job that their college has nothing to do with. Kids are smartening up, they can see that others are not working in the job their degree is in and they wind up with student loans. There are good jobs out there that you do not need a college degree for. Most hospitals have a program that pays tuition for people if they want to go back and get a better certification if you work there for a while.

My company is paying kids 60K a year just to intern in clinical engineering.

All they need is the basic qualifications and a willingness to learn and work hard.

Why go to college just to be mutated into some kind of pansy or be harassed daily for "toxic masculinity".

College is just an overpriced liberal indoctrination scheme. Its probably been a good 20 years since I met a college grad who had what I consider to be even a fraction of a proper education. Though every one of them could rattle off a dozen reasons why white men are inherently evil and everything that is wrong with this country.

It's sad to say, but I've said for the past decade and a half or so...college is just a scam! It really is!

I interview people all the time. I've interviewed college grads who couldn't find their ass with both hands. I've recommended for hire as "Designers" and "Project Managers" people with trade skills, people who want to work, not just get paid. I don't even require a 4 year degree in my job req's anymore as an absolute, I usually append this with..."or commensurate experience". The last gal I hired as an engineer got her degree as an "oh by the way". She didn't even put it on her application. Hired her on the spot because she has 25 years on the test bench and in the field. She has proven leadership skills, and ran field crews for twenty of those years. This gal was a solid gold find and she's exceeded every expectation for over two years now. Starting pay...$109,000, and she's earned every cent of that!

Heh, her only request was that she'd like to travel if possible. LOL!...I can make that happen, oh boy can I !!...LOL!

A few weeks back she told me that she didn't really understand why she went and got her degree other than she thought it would help her get a better job. She got a $49,000 raise by hiring on...and she didn't even have to put it on her resume!

College is a scam!

ETA - Truth be known, I actually sought her out, and kind of poached her from her old job which I knew she was unhappy with. Now she's happy, and I'm definitely happy.

CISSP has a 5 year experience requirement, CCIE at least the practical exam is considered one of the hardest certifications you can get.

The CCIE is most likely to get you a 6 figure role, however that's because you are one hell of a network engineer or architect and likely have 10 years in the field.

I'll agree that most degrees are useless, including my own MBA, MS, and BS in cyber security management, information security, and data forensics respectively. All they are for me are the checkmark for HR. Did it all for under 25k too and have no student debt. Compared to colleagues that went to very large name schools for the same degree owing over 100k on up just for the name, that make the same amount of money as I do.

My son graduated collage 5 months ago and started a job earning $30.00 an hour, where none of his work associates went to college. (Construction assistants)

I'm thinking, why the hell did we pay all that money over the past 4 years!?!

(Watching him play college football was priceless though.)

I have the same problem. Our son did his 3 years in CGI and computer aided design, finished with a 3.87 average (96.6%) over the 3 years, almost the top of his years. He's an assistant manager at one of the major fast-food/non-food garbage purveyors. He's so smart and it's such a waste. He was set to go to the States and then Obummer changed the rules to you had to have 4 years, not 3.

Cheers - Dave

Absolutely! Those Cisco certs are worth their weight in gold! CCIE's can just about name their price around here!

Same thing for cyber I.S. guys. Those guys can absolutely name their price! I just hired another gal back a few months ago, and she's pushing mid-six figures (like high 300's, probably to low 400's next year). And I had to fight hard to get this gal too!
It's crazy how much these I.S. guys can make!!!!

If you know hardcore (Cisco) networking (routing tables, multiple protocols like multicast, etc) and have I.S. trade skills (bulletproof DMZ's, NAT, 10.x, firewalls) and are having a difficult time finding work...you should PM me!

ETA - The biggest challenges with all this stuff is staying current, Cisco especially.

A large part of the problem with society in general is that they push materialism. You are only as good as your next best car, or house, or gadget. And the only way to get more is better education. Although, to tell the truth, most wealthy people are so because they are entrepreneurs, own their own business, etc. But that is beside the point.

I really liked the realization of Alex Becker and what he shared about his idea of getting wealth and having things. After he achieved his goal of getting a lot of money and buying the car, the big house, etc that he wanted, he realized that his mind gets used to the things. At first like anything, the mind is excited because it is processing something new. Then it gets used to it, and you're unhappy again. Owning a big house means you have to walk further to the bathroom. Hire people to take care of its upkeep, etc.

He even says in his video in school we are taught the way to be happy is to get more things and the way to get more things and you have to make more money to get more things. And you look at everyone else that makes more money and buys bigger boxes to live in. The guy with $10,00 wants $100,00. The guy with $1000,00 wants $1 million. The guy with $1 million wants $10 million. He then says the fact is there is no amount of money that will make, no kind of car you can buy that will give you anything more than a short term burst of satisfaction. And what ends up happening by getting more things is you get separated from what truly makes you happy.

Now this right here folks is it. This is what they should be teaching you in school. Not that you need to get more things to be happy, and the only way to do that is through going into debt to get higher education to get a higher paying job to be able to get those bigger and snazzier things.

I really recommend taking the time to watch it. This guy has some very valid and observant comments. He said it took him a decade to understand these things. I look at people running after wealth and power and see there are people who never learn these things bring happiness, even in their old age.

There is a Proverb, what is the saying...

"A lover of silver will never be satisfied with silver, nor a lover of wealth with income."-Ecclesiastes 5:10.

After earning enough to take care of the basic needs of life, money and things themselves to not contribute to being happier in life. That is why the Bible's advice although ancient is so apt:

"So, having food and clothing, we will be content with these things."-1 Timothy 6:8.

Foreign money and influence have turned our colleges in propaganda brainwashing systems. Since the gov wont take foreign money out of USA education, we need to stop it from getting bigger.

Not sure how to do that, but we need to do it.

Cuz they make you feel stupid if you dont go to skool. Its a ploy that started when Uncle Sam decided to get into the college loan business.

Its free money for colleges so they pay professors half a mil a year to teach rubbish with no repercussions for pushing gender studies degrees that will take 50 years to pay back.

I think colleges really made out like bandits with these Covid-19 "rescue" payments. I heard Harvard received a $13 million check...just because.

My son was charged same tuition, even though he was at home attending classes virtually most of last year and part of this year. The school saved a lot of money by having a campus with no students physically there.

I bet if Professors had a union, they would have fought to not come back due to Covid, just like public school teachers here in Chicago did.
