Flying Microchips The Size Of A Sand Grain

I don't typically post in this forum, but I found this rather interesting. This article shows a tiny chip with wings next to the point of a pencil. The caption reads "3D microflier next to a pencil tip for scale" (sorry I don't know how to embed pictures). Small as a grain of sand so basically undetectable to the human eye.


The article also states

The wind would scatter the tiny microchips, which could sense their surrounding environments and collect information. The scientists say they could potentially be used to monitor for contamination, surveil populations or even track diseases.

Towards the end of the article it states

"We think that we beat nature"

I was curious of your thoughts, especially those with more scientific minds.

Anyone with insight to this technology I would appreciate your thoughts.

Personally I find it a bit disturbing.
