I wonder what the significance was of the marble room with the polished walls and that blue light Christmas Tree?

I love marble but the floor would be slick as greased Owl pooh with just a hint of water on it!

Different political system in the UK, stability of a royal family overseeing things probably reduced the rodent wheel effect ETMN mentioned a few pages back.

Old timers suffer the most from political transition.

Same thing with the communication technology.
Will the transition from the 3G phone albatross to the new 4G system leave the old crews ship dead in the water?
Just bury all the old phones the 4G archer killed in a giant earth fill mound out in the plain of Marathon?

The symbolism of the room and the floor Justoneman noticed reminded me of "the room" in the old movie "2001 a space odyssey".

Kubrick stealing the white hair from Poe.
The furniture in the Kubrick room is classic and the glass breaks later in the scene.
The inevitable, "Q" saw this coming before leaving the building.

I prefer the tree symbolism in "the three ages" painted by Dali in 1940 not that it matters.

Since 2001 was mentioned. I was watching this a few weeks back and it was posted exactly 12 months today.
Spoiler Alert ..this is a whole rundown of Movie in under 7 mins.

Plus I remembered a great surfing doco I watched years ago and now I know why. 100 miles of coast. 66 foot Giants.
It is a great watch and it was the day that changed surfing. Really makes you wonder. The biggest wave is at 10:21 min mark.
Project Neptune ...The Secret Meetings.
On the Shoulder of Giants: The Cortes Bank Expedition

Cortes Banks
On November 3, 1855, The New York Times carried the story "Dangerous Rock off the Coast of California," which reported MacRae's finding and the fact that he and the crew of the ship had anchored a pair of casks bearing a flag to mark the spot. Two weeks after the story appeared, MacRae committed suicide aboard the Ewing in San Francisco Bay, shooting himself in the head with a large caliber Colt revolver, while anchored alongside Alden's ship, the USS Active.
Bishop Rock also creates a renowned big-wave surfing spot recognized as being capable of producing some of the tallest surfable waves in the world.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is expected to step down, sources say

.....It’s unclear who’s set to succeed Dorsey or the timing of a potential announcement. It’s also unknown why Dorsey, 45, would take a step back. But if he steps down, the next CEO will have to meet Twitter’s aggressive internal goals. The company said earlier this year it aims to have 315 million monetizable daily active users by the end of 2023 and to at least double its annual revenue in that year.

Dorsey faced an ousting last year when Twitter stakeholder Elliott Management had sought to replace him. Elliott Management founder and billionaire investor Paul Singer had wondered whether Dorsey should run both of the public companies, calling for him to step down as CEO of one of them, before the investment firm reached a deal with the company’s management.......

Endthemadnessnow mentioned Mata Hari earlier.

She didn't take the Lady MacLeod identity till she was 29 in 1905.
Jean Clemens committed suicide at age 29 in 1909.
Jean Tatlock committed suicide at age 29 in 1944.

That was a sequel to the original Kubrick film not from the original perspective.
The original had California themed footage of Farewell Canyon shaded red.

You mentioned 66 in the surf video link, strange suicide this summer of a 33 Year old who had high hopes for a Farewell canyon in Canada.

www.nytimes.com...

Very weird stuff that doesn't seem obviously connected unless its the "hotel california" device the Eagles sang about.

Interesting little diversion... was feeling a little off; odd headache... went to kitchen to get a glass of water and saw a black van, parked opposite my front door, with blacked out windows (even at the front), which drove off as soon as my face appeared in kitchen window. No reason for it to park in a close on an estate.

Hoping this means my headache disappears now, haha!

Parag Agrawal. Basically only worked at Twitter. And maybe one of the three-letter agencies who liked to recruit from Stanford. A programmer that only worked for Twitter. [sarcasm] A logical choice for the new CEO. [/sarcasm]

Edit: Interestingly enough, he seems to specialize in large dataset analysis. Also remember when AT&T's underground stuff was blown up by whitehats?

Parag seems to have a thing for "The Catcher in the Rye."

www.goodreads.com...

Parag Agrawal > Parag's Quotes

#1
“Advertising is legitimised lying.”
― H.G. Wells

#2
“We all have our time machines, don't we. Those that take us back are memories...And those that carry us forward, are dreams.”
― H.G. Wells

#3
“Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armour yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you.”
― George R.R. Martin

#4
“I like it when somebody gets excited about something. It's nice.”
― J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

#5
“I'm the most terrific liar you ever saw in your life. It's awful. If I'm on my way to the store to buy a magazine, even, and somebody asks me where I'm going, I'm liable to say I'm going to the opera. It's terrible.”
― J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

#6
“I don’t give a damn, except that I get bored sometimes when people tell me to act my age. Sometimes I act a lot older than I am - I really do - but people never notice it. People never notice anything.”
― J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

#7
“I live in New York, and I was thinking about the lagoon in Central Park, down near Central Park South. I was wondering if it would be frozen over when I got home, and if it was, where did the ducks go? I was wondering where the ducks went when the lagoon got all icy and frozen over. I wondered if some guy came in a truck and took them away to a zoo or something. Or if they just flew away.”
― J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

#8
“It's really too bad that so much crumby stuff is a lot of fun sometimes.”
― J. D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

#9
“Anyway, I'm sort of glad they've got the atomic bomb invented. If there's ever another war, I'm going to sit right the hell on top of it. I'll volunteer for it, I swear to God I will.”
― J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

#10
“The goddam movies. They can ruin you. I'm not kidding”
― J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

#11
“Just because somebody's dead, you don't just stop liking them-especially if they were about a thousand times nicer than the people you know that're alive and all.”
― J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

#12
“Above all, don't lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love.”
― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

#13
“life is about making right things and going on..”
― R.K. Narayan, Malgudi Days

#14
“The difference between a simpleton and an intelligent man, according to the man who is convinced that he is of the latter category, is that the former wholeheartedly accepts all things that he sees and hears while the latter never admits anything except after a most searching scrutiny. He imagines his intelligence to be a sieve of closely woven mesh through which nothing but the finest can pass. ”
― R. K. Narayan

#15
“That’s the worst way to miss somebody. When they’re right beside you and you miss them anyway.”
― Pittacus Lore, I Am Number Four

#16
“To you, I'm an atheist.
To God, I'm the loyal opposition.”
― Woody Allen

#17
“I think there's just one kind of folks. Folks.”
― Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird

#18
“I have seen the moment of my greatness flicker, and I have seen the eternal Footman hold my coat, and snicker, and in short, I was afraid.”
― T.S. Eliot, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock and Other Poems
