I finally found a good reason to come back from my exile. The kind of stuff we used to like discussing.

I've been entering in the fascinating world of the stock market, with a very, very modest amount of money to start. One of the companies in my watchlist is Almaden Minerals Ltd.

They recently started drilling in Ixtaca, Mexico.

In 2010, Ixtaca was discovered and acquired by staking. The first hole ever drilled in the zone hit 302 meters of 1.0 g/t gold and 48 g/t silver, including 1.67 meters of 60.7g/t gold and 2122 g/t silver.

The drilling was recently stopped due the virus spreading in the area. If you check their stock value, the chart shows a flat line.

Vancouver, B.C. Almaden Minerals Ltd. (“Almaden” or “the Company”; TSX: AMM; NYSE
American: AAU) reports that, given the perceived rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the
municipality of Ixtacamaxtitlán, it has elected to pause drilling for two weeks out of an abundance of
caution.

Although none of the drilling or core logging and processing teams have tested positive for the virus,
several COVID cases have been detected by the Company’s COVID protocols among members of the
Company’s local staff. These people are now in quarantine. The Company is liaising with local health
authorities and leaders to ascertain how it can assist authorities in the area.

To date the Company has completed one hole at the Southeast Alteration Zone, to a depth of 785
metres. Core has already been split and sent for assay. Results will be shared once they are received
and assessed.

As you can read, they stopped drilling at 785 meters in one single hole and send everybody home. I can't help myself, it reminds me those movies when someone finds something ancient or evil underground, I'm kidding of course, hahaha !

The blog, inside the company's website is called Duane's Blog. Duane Poliquin is the head of the company. He posted this strange message :

"Suspendisse nec congue purus. Nulla lectus ante, consequat et ex eget, feugiat tincidunt metus. Quisque congue porttitor ullamcorper. In sit amet felis malesuada, feugiat purus eget, varius mi."

It seems to be Latin according to Google, but it fails to translate some of the words.

"Maybe not for the pure reason. No bed before, the consequences and from the need, the fear of the immune system. Quisque congue porttitor ullamcorper. The cats sit in love with the Vikings, the immune system needs to be pure, my coach."

The part that says"Quisque congue porttitor ullamcorper." remains without translation. But even if the whole message could be translated, the meaning of the message remains thought provoking.

According to Google translate. ..
""Quisque congue porttitor ullamcorper."
Means...
"Anyone for the sake of the bears"
Odd, eh?

Super odd. It's like a secret code message translated to Latin to add another layer of mystery.

Or maybe he wanted to post something in Latin for some odd reason, but not knowing Latin he ran his English through a translation engine, then the back translation fell flat.

It does read to me like a back translation, or a third generation machine translation.

I don't think so. I checked this man background and he doesn't seem to be that kind of person at all. Also, he didn't tweet it, he used the company's site. You don't mess with investors like that, specially if there is gold in the middle.

Looks like pseudo-Latin aka Lorem Ipsum, which doesn't mean anything (dummy text filler) and dates back to the Roman rhetorician Cicero. Lorem ipsum is derived from the Latin "dolorem ipsum" roughly translated as "pain itself."

It isn’t possible to get an accurate Latin translation via machine translation. Latin has plenty of metaphors; hyperbaton, subordination and relative sentences can turn syntactic parsing into a hellish enterprise for humans, not to say for machine.

The "Pure reason" could be the gold itself.

"The cats sit in love with the Vikings" is a clear reference to the Norse culture.

There are a number of tales of cats mentioned in Scandinavian folklore. The Norse god Freya (Freyja) drove a chariot pulled by two cats.

These are referred to in the Prose Edda as ‘gib-cats’ and are depicted as grey or blue in colour. The cats were a gift from Thor, and she used them to travel to the funeral of Baldur, her lover.

I asked around and was told that Reddit: The Latin language • r/latin is a pretty good place to get translations worked out. I'd ask there, but I'm not a member of reddit.

The problem is this is not an average dude in social media looking for "likes". This is about gold mining my friend. It has to mean something. A briefing for someone.

But that's the point. He's not looking for likes, he just forgot to cut out that part of the website template. In my opinion.

I would say there's a really good chance that this website is made with SquareSpace which, for whoever doesn't know, is a template based web design app that basically allows you to copy/paste and click a website together. The lorum ipsum is probably a leftover of the design process.

So it could be mixed up. Maybe intentionally. The question is why he did all that ?

If you check the link, there are 2 empty boxes after the message, I think missing pics.

And what about

I'm not tech savvy enough to understand the correlation between lorum ipsum and a website design app. I thought they were written in binary code. 1s and 0s?

Haha squarepants.

I would say he likely didn't do it. He just forgot to delete the block of lorem ipsum from the formatting on Squarespace.

They are at some point in the process maybe, but SquareSpace(Pants) had an easy to use interface where they provide a fully built website template, and you right click the elements to insert your content. Easy peasy, but also not unheard of to forget to delete the blocks of lorem ipsum used as placeholders.

Why are there nonsense words in my text blocks?

Some templates include “Lorem Ipsum” text in demo content. This is dummy text intended to show how text might look in a site layout. You can edit the text or delete the text blocks entirely.

I mean the whole post. What's the reason for the whole post. Regardless the language.

For a computer generated placeholder, it is quite up to date with the concerns of the time?

First I thought your explanation seems plausible, and I was a little disappointed.
But maybe done so, for plausible deniability?

He didn't post it. He just labeled a page as Duanes Blog, and then didn't write a blog. He left the placeholder text instead of formatting it.

Or do you mean the post about digging ton785 meters? In that case, I would say it's information they found relevant to share.

I just generated this lorem ipsum:

Semper quis lectus nulla at volutpat diam. Ridiculus mus mauris vitae ultricies leo integer malesuada. Scelerisque in dictum non consectetur a erat nam at lectus.

Which, if translated as Latin using Google translate means:

For a free course it is just a pump to be honest. Until the death of the cat and the hatred of the kids. Adipiscing bibendum est ultricies integer quis auctor elit sed vulputate. He dwelled on this street, and said to each one of his arrows pure. It's like a little bit of chocolate until it's in the throat. Aenean sed adipiscing diam. No and the pain of life is pure throat to adorn. Diam maecenas sed enim ut sem viverra aliquet. The creator of the valley is not always from tomorrow, nor the time of his life. There's always one bed at the weekend. Ridiculus mus mauris vitae ultricies leo integer malesuada. Thermal in dictum non consectetur a erat nam at lectus.

It could feel eerie if you assigned meaning to it. Especially "No and the pain of life is pure throat to adorn." And, just like the lorem ipsum on the website, it has tracts of nonsense text that not translatable.
