Infinite, have you told anyone yet that you have stopped taking your meds? I am wondering if you choose to keep it secretive, from knowing that it is not the appropriate choice?

No, ive started taking them again

ECT is not as common as it once was. It is usually used as a last resort, (i.e. criminally insane, or completely catatonic individuals)with the voltage being much lower than it was during its prime (1950's-60's).

So its likely i wont have it done then?

Have you told your doctor that you are not on your medication??

No, cause ive started taking them again

I am so happy that you've started taking them again! I was worried that our advice to you would nag you. You start to feel like you're being nagged once you're off the meds (paranoia), and I was worried that would happen with you.

No, unless you do something really, really, really horrible (murder someone, molest a child, etc), *and* all medications fail in treating what you've done, you will never be a candidate for ECT. Doctors hate administering it as much as patients hate having it done. It is usually reserved for people who do really bad things, and can't stop doing them. When doctors try to treat these people, and *all* medications do not do a thing, then ECT is an option.

But not for people like us, Infinite.

Thank you so much for educating yourself, and for being logical and choosing the right choice.

Dot.

What does it feel/seem like when you start freaking out? I go from feeling like nothing is real, that I'm watching it all on a theatre screen. Then I feel like everything is amplified. Sounds, light, smell. I switch back and forth throughout the day. The meds keep me from reacting to it. They also help keep me from acting on delusions...like people are out to hurt me, kill me, etc.

I still feel the impulses and the loss of what's real and what isn't. I just don't curl up into the fetal position and cry.

I'm glad to hear that you are taking your perscriptions. Might still be a good idea to let the doc know that you stopped for a bit, but this is good news! Hopefully you are on the road to recovery!

recovery, cure is something i've given up on. I can't see light at the end of the tunnel so i have to deal with it. It isn't a nice thought, but i can live with it

You should realize that you are that light at the end of the tunnel. If you give up on yourself, you take hope from others. Its hard, i know.

You are always looking for help, for something to save you, but no one is there. That is because you are the the savior of the people that you ironically look to for help. You become so wraped up in your problems that you forget all the people who are depending on you. You see, the reason that you don't see the light at the end of the tunnel is that you are that light. Now, shine so others will look to you for guidance.

I'm obviously no expert on this sort of thing, but apparently there are varying levels of 'recovery'. That friend of mine who had a complete paranoid schizophrenic break is doing very well, can't even tell that he's on medication, of course, its been a few years since it all began, and he's been 'good' for a while. For others, apparently, its a struggle. No telling how its going to work out for you.

Tom Sawyer, bravo! People often forget how much they mean to other people and that they can be a good influence in other's lives! Even people that we have yet to come across and can't know about until we do!

People may hate me for saying it, but I found that prayer helped me. I reached a point were, as they say in AA, my life was out of my control. I realized that either there's a God out there to resolve things, or they won't get resolved. After all, the doctor's didn't know what they were doing, and I couldn't help meself. Yet when I thought "God", that was the turn around point. I found my own 'light' insufficient.

It seems to me that you've found a few ways to vent. Writing is highly recommended, as are other forms of art. A researcher once told me to work my brain like I would a muscle...working out. It's good that you're in school, it helps you have structure, and it gives your brain a good workout.

In fact, I don't know how you do it. I wasn't be able to sit still, and would end up writing my thoughts down in my notebook. I was accepted into wonderful universities, but I would stop going to class. Instead, I would end up in the library, writing in my journal as "Norms" debated, studied, and worked on research probjects. There were classes I continued (media studies, military philosophy), but I had/have breakdowns every few months, and I never got the piece of paper saying that I accomplished something.

You're lucky, infinite....

I write poetry when i am emotionally unstable. I imagine that i am bleeding emotions through the medium of my pen. When the poem is complete, my emotions only exist in the form of writen art. It helps me to feel better if nothing else.
