Looks like a DNS issue with Akamai, who provides CDN services to a ton of websites.

Whether Akamai was hacked, or some techie there made a big boo-boo is undetermined.

The internet outage that took down several major websites seems to be fixed

Oh no!
What will people do without their instachat and snapgram?

Seriously though.
I don't think people realize how dependant we are on the internet for daily tasks.

Mine was spotty too, for about an hour or two.

That's not exactly uncommon for me though, so hard telling if it's actually related or not.

Some jackass probably committed a change to a device before proper testing could take place.

Doubtful, but that arstechnica article has nothing to do with the akamai outage. That's why this is clickbaity.

Just use network solutions as your DNS server to avoid the trudeau-canadakastan BS.

Would have been better to leave arstechnica article and take out the akamai stuff. It would have actually made sense then. A DNS provider having issues doesn't mean the internet is under attack, that arstechnica article was about actual internet attacks.

In Portugal, almost everything related to taxes and Social Security is done via Internet.
A couple of hours ago we noticed at work that we couldn't access all of the Tax Authority's services, maybe it was related to this.

Technically the world is under attack by the internet. Every day social media is attempting to cancel or criminalize something because outrage is so trendy and profitable if you play your cards right.

The NSA is everywhere on the internet, esp in the U.S.

"Freedom" is definitely not the best (on the internet). People are ALWAYS watching.
