Here is a glitch I've noticed recently on ATS.

Periodically, when typing a post, the cursor will move behind the last letter or letters typed. No matter what I try, nothing can get rid of the characters in front of the cursor. And, the cursor remains behind the next character typed also. From that point forward in a post you have to remember the character you are typing is actually in front of the cursor, not behind it like normal. I've only noticed this phenomenon in the last two months, and it only happens on ATS.

For the record, I run a Lenovo i7 ThinkPad laptop (essentially new), running Win 10 (fully updated) and use FF as a browser (also up to date). Not running any add-ins on the browser, nor any ad-blockers. Just FYI.

It's a very strange glitch, not like one I've ever seen before. It doesn't happen all the time, and it seems to be related to editing text within a post (not 'edit'ing a post, just editing text within a post). Once the glitch starts, nothing will make it go away. You can't select the text in front of the cursor to delete, and you can't even move the pointer past where the text appears. It's like the text isn't there, but it is.

Again, this apparent glitch is unique to ATS. It doesn't cripple ATS when it occurs, but it makes completing the post almost too distracting to do.

Note: If I post a (incomplete) post after this glitch starts and then return to it with 'edit', the glitch goes away. So does it too on a new post.

That is strange. What happens if you write the text on another program and paste it on ATS?

Does FF have hardware acceleration activated?

Having an issue myself on a galaxy tablet 7.

But no issue with the cursor.

The usual question is..

Did you:
:Refresh the device
: clear cache&cookies

Try that unless you already did.

By chance, does it slow down... by that I mean. If you hit a letter and it takes a second to place it. I'll type sometimes and it will buffer and will start to put the letters up when I'm finished typing..l as if a ghost is typing.

Edit: notice the buffing.... never mind its not letting my screen shots on my end with the buffing a and not showing member avatars.

Same issue occasionally on android past 2-3 weeks.

Actions described by Biggy above always resolved the issue.

Yes, but specifically my fresh out of the box galaxy s7 tablet that runs on Android.

See: I'm back on an older Galaxy S2 now.
and no slow keyboard response.

No issue then. It only occurs when typing text in the ATS post window. Pasted text from another source is not affected.

Here's another weird part of this; if you try to select the text in the ATS post window (after the weirdness begins) to C&P it into say Word, you can't select the text in front of the cursor, so it won't go away. No amount of DEL or backspacing will get rid of it. At first I thought I'd just C&P the text out, edit it, and post it back...but the text out in front of the cursor remains in the ATS window, so in order to get rid of that you have to post it, then go back with the 'edit' feature. Then you can delete it. It's really weird!

Negative.

I understand.

Device I am using is also pretty old.

I suspect memory leak in recently updated client.

Probably a single library is cause.

Rules prevent me from investigating, so just posting here.

Power cycle alone appear to clear the issue for a few days, even for a device on ATS nearly 24/7 right now.

On this device anyway.

No slowing down. And, it doesn't happen all the time, just periodically. I am not able to get the glitch to reliably repeat so I can't really observe a trend, it just seems random.

That almost looks like some parts are being blocked.

Hi, I'm LittleBurgh. My android tablet started doing similar things after a recent update. Not on ATS because I rarely post here. My keyboard settings were all changed by the update. I had to fix the keyboard in Settings and also had to change my settings under Languages & Input to fix the cursor & random punctuation. Problem is, if it's only doing it here, you might be having a communication issue with ATS. That is likely on their end. You might have to write to Support to see if you need a patch. Good luck!

Thank you BurghSis.

I suspect related to recent update here.

I'm sure ATS Admin will be by soon to assist.

No idea as I just changed my password just now.... again. And received this

Started around 7pm yesterday EST

Edit: littleburgh tried logging in via FB so she could help FCD, and could not log in. Then went directly to the sign in page here and she couldn't do it there either. She then got a notice saying she was logged in, so she clicked it and again it would let her access to ATS.

Feels like everything is getting the old DDOS😢😢😢

I have occasionally had a similar thing happen like what was brought up in the OP. It was not just on ATS when I had it happen. It was frustrating, but when I closed the browser and ran Ccleaner it would disappear. I think it had something to do with a windows update or something.

This is a desktop Dell computer,

I had this too, both on desktop and mobile.

Sometimes the cursor will lock on in front of the last three digits. For me it would delete every former character once I type a new one. Like using "insert" key but in reverse.

Sometimes there's a golden bar around my comment box, instead of a white one, I figured it's because I am so awesome or some nefarious stuff, probably the latter.
