I guess residents of Hong Kong would rather suffer the "severe security law" imposed by the Chinese, restricting "the rights and freedoms of the people" than come to the UK and suffer the rainy weather, endless tea, and takeway food.

This could be the reason why the UK Government is working on the basis of an "indicative" 300,000 person take up of the offer of UK residence and ultimate citizenship.

Thats 300,000 out of the 5.4M people (75% of the HK population) residence in the UK has been made available to.

So thats a take up of less than 6% - a stat that surely smiles on the stickiness of Chinese tyranny. Certainly the Chinese aren't bothered by our offer.

Equally, the UK can perhaps thank our passion for cricket , at least in part, for saving us from coping with up to around 8% on top of the current population by way of infrastructure and housing etc.

And, as a nation the UK stands to benefit to the tune of £8.8k of Net Present Social Value (I have no idea how this is degined). A splendid, albeit "indicative", number.

My first question is this: if we are running with an indicative 300,000, why arent we limiting this offer to the first 600,000 then no more. We could could probably cope with 600,000, at a pinch.

My second question is this: who really benefits?

Third: What does the Net Present Social Value calculation look like, and

Fourth: Who validated the "indicative" forecasts?

And finally, we were asked about Brexit, why werent we asked about this?

Any ideas?

From what I'm hearing about the UK and the proposed mass house arrests and such, maybe ultimately being in Hong Kong under CCP rule won't be much different from being in the UK. It looks like Canada and the US are heading in that direction, as well.

Why would an entrepreneur come here, with our restless and uncertain business environment?

Seriously?

Show us a source so we can unpick that at leisure.

Hker here.
Actually most of the people who supports democracy would've loved to leave, but not everyone has the means.
Some aren't financially capable. Others have other things tying them down. And the ones who needs to leave most are awaiting sentencing
