In my experience, Air fryers sometimes can steal the soul of the food.

Good grief! It's not Lucifer...it's just an air fryer!!

LOL!

I got one for Christmas. I tested. Fried wings versus air fried wings. Fried potatoes versus air fried potatoes.

Air fried food was not bad but when you put it next to old school fried chicken, it can't win.

Air fried chicken didn't ask for a cold beer. Too healthy.

But oil is very expensive now, I might start using it again.

I have the Kalorik Maxx 26 qt. Stainless Steel Air Fryer Oven. It only cost about $150. It heats up frozen foods and leftovers well. It makes nice, crispy French fries. I've had whole chickens, turkey legs, a medium ham and medium sized roast beef turn out good with it.

Was excited, until I saw that most of the pans/racks weren't also stainless steel. It is really annoying not to be able to find anything that doesn't use toxic chemical laden 'non-stick' junk.

But... vegetable oils are one of the absolute worst things that you can use for cooking and/or put into your body, bar none.

I was given a combo microwave, convection oven, air dryer for christmas. I love it. Cooks pretty much anything. Great on a muggy hot day to not have to fire up a full sized oven. I forgot the maker of mine. a reply to: NightSkyeB4Dawn

I mean, start using my air fryer again. Not the oil.

I picked up one from costco. I've made a few things in it. It's ok if you want to make some crispy foods. Fries do come out great in an air fryer. I've breaded some chicken and made them in the air fryer and it's not bad either.

I guess that if you like fried food by don't want to get a deep fryer it's a good alternative. Frankly I use my stove more.

I can recommend them. Get one Night.

Just never oil your food before air frying. Healthy and tasty food without added grease. Yum.

You’ll be thanking yourself in no time.

I got one for Christmas a couple years ago and I love it. I got my father one last Christmas and I think he uses it more than I do mine. I’ve done so much in it from fries to pork tenderloin. I tried steak and it didn’t turn out the way I wanted it due to only going up to 400 degrees. But I’d be lost without my air fryer and my instant pot.

We have a Ninja air fryer and it's the best thing ever.

It's a 3 in 1 system. Expensive, but worth it. Especially for the pressure cooker.

Tasted a few fried chicken from an air fryer. It is a bit more drier then regular oil deep fried chicken. But? It is a lot less messy and the chicken came out pretty good. So? I mean? I dont have one. But it is a less messy option. And would make a good tool to have in the kitchen.

... (flip at the halfway point) come out absolutely amazing. ...

This is actually a very good point, and I neglected to mention it.

We've also found that turning whatever you're cooking at the halfway point yields the best results. Doesn't matter what it is, flip it halfway through the cooking time and you'll get a much better end product.

The only thing we don't turn is fish with the skin on one side (like salmon).

I have a cosori (?) I bought on amazon. I admit, I was very skeptical, as I didn't want another gadget only used for 2 months, then just taking up space.

Been a year, and I still use it at least once a week, if not more. I have never had tater tots that crispy in my oven. All my frozen food goes into it.
I have even made steaks in it. I usually only make them on the grill, because I can't get them right otherwise. Almost as good as the grill, and that says a lot, for me.

I love it. I think for what you want, you will love it too.

I think I'd probably steer away from one which tries to do too many things. Usually appliances who say they can do a multitude of tasks can't do any one of them well. Whereas, a dedicated single function appliance will perform its stated function far better. This has been my experience in general with appliances. Our air fryer is just an air fryer. We do use it for some other things like grilling, but it doesn't profess to be a grill.

A great example of this is pressure cookers which claim they double as a slow cooker. One of the best ways to kill an insta-pot is to use it as a slow cooker. They're not really designed for long slow heat.

Air fryers are basically halogen cookers covered in plastic.

Get one of those as they are good and very efficient.

Have seen halogen cookers for around 25 bucks.

Halogen cookers have a glass surround so you can see your food cooking.

Ack...

The only good oils I'm aware of are real cold=pressed olive and coconut oils - although now I'm even reading things questioning coconut oil. Another promising one is avacado oil, but I haven't read anything definitive yet.

Actual fried chicken is one of the greatest food substances known to man and should not be prepared in any manner other than God and Nature has intended: frying.

I would add that the notion of frying dark meat like thighs, legs, and especially wings in their own fat while putting them in a higher temp environment really appeals to me. Wings in particular, but also legs when they are frenched and made into lollipops, do well on a really hot smoker. My vortex on my weber gets me temps around 400 that i can hold for a couple hours. I can do 500 for a couple of hours actually. Or hit 800 for searing off steaks and such, if i put it right over top of the cone.

But at that temp, they fry in their own fat. Its the best way to eat wings. Smoked at 400 for 45 mins, then sauced for 10, pulled and sauced again to serve.
