Growing up in America, I actually never heard the word racist , but the word prejudice was the "in " word for not liking another race or as they are saying today, people of color, whatever that hell that means.

an irrational attitude of hostility directed against an individual, a group, a race, or their supposed characteristics , was not this racist in the days of common sense

Prejudice can include other factors aside from the biological. For example, I can have a prejudice against smokers or people who vote democrat.

Racist refers to phenotype (visible genetic characteristics, such as skin color.) Although I think the term these days largely involves pairing a phenotype with a cultural characteristic. For example, saying something like all Asians are good at math or all Anglos love hot dogs.

What ever happened to the word prejudice

What about bigotry ?
It's all about "racism" now .
You don't like corn ?
That's racist .
You don't like school ?
That's racist .
You don't like the color of my SUV ?
That's racist .

Sad , but true .

All about intent. You can be prejudice without being racist in its pure form ..

Superiority over another race. Not just judging by race.

Example. Black babies are beautiful
Black men are great at basketball

I'm prejudice but not racist

The left loves to mingle the two together as one. Because that's what victim mentality does.

Demonize everything in their favor .

Reason and logic be damned.

Prejudice = Prejudge

Racist = Race

Prejudiced is a more descriptive word.

The word stems from “racial prejudice ” and “racialism.” Both were in use in the early 1900’s, and mostly in reference to the treatment of Jews, but people kept wanting a stronger term and kept adding groups to the list of disparaged people it was meant to represent.

Then towards the end of the civil rights movement, Jesse Jackson and his buddy, Al “Everything-Is-Racist” Sharpton really pushed the narrative of the new term “racist/racism,” because terms like “racial prejudice” don’t sound as harsh; they don’t have as much of a bite.

In my observation, it seems that people who posses a strong command of vocabulary neither need nor are in want of newer and updated terms. Those that want them seem to be of lesser intelligence or have an agenda to push. Highlighting this point, it can be seen in this article, the push to expand the current definition of racism to include “systemic racism,” because apparently ol’ whitey just isn’t feeling guilty enough.

Mitchum had contacted Merriam-Webster because she was dissatisfied with what she found when she looked up racism in the dictionary’s online portal.

It’s just not good enough! You need to change it because I don’t like it!

“the idea of an asymmetrical power structure” could be expressed more clearly, so the entry was revisited to bring that sense to the fore...”

“the entry underscores some nuances, though the revision is not a complete rewrite.

Of course it’s not complete 🙄 and it never will be as long as there’s a political agenda to push and morons to eat it up.

Racism lives from prejudices, while prejudice can be present without any racist thoughts.

The Democratic party for example, IMHO is the most prejudiced of all. They often look for things to change because this or that demography is staying behind. Like saying blacks are staying behind, because they are too poor or dumb to get voter ID, so we do away with the voter ID to protect the black folk from not being able to vote.

That's prejudice against a whole class of people and indeed racist because they point out an inferiority that another demography -in their opinion- doesn't have. The real reason isn't that they want to help that demography, it's just the vehicle for being able to cheat more.

In that light, the Democratic party and those that support these thought-trains, are true monsters. Anything to achieve the goal they set. Even veiled racist statements are ok.

That's the MO, accuse others of what you're doing or going to do in future.

You've pretty much hit the nail on the head.

By changing the language the left is attempting to do two things. Firstly they are attempting to make race the primary factor as a way of dividing us up into groups. Secondly they are attempting to hide the fact that "prejudice" often have perfectly reasonable justifications.

It's a relative term. We didn't have much common sense back then, but we've got even less now.

A lot of prejudice comes from cultural circumstances, even the climate.

In countries like Spain, Egypt, Mexico that are situated in hot climate zones, work in- and outside is much more demanding. In more northern countries like Germany, France, UK where the weather is moderate throughout most of the year, the cultural expectation and definition of "a good days work" differs widely from "a good days work" in a hot climate.

The resulting prejudice in comparing both without considering the above would be, that generally in these countries, the people are "lazy".

How long have 1st world countries tried to give aid to lower developed countries but it failed because there was no cultural appreciation happening about possessing and caring about the possessions? It's not because these people are unintelligent, stupid and lazy, it's the cultural difference.

We say like "different countries, different morals/customs/traditions" and it's fitting here too.

For example we Germans are known for our precision much like the swiss. Straightforward and stern. We can allow ourselfes this, in a humid climate country most of the year, I would let 5 be an even number twice a day. That plank of wood I just cut isn't fitting perfect? F it, it's hot and I need rest"

compared to

"we're not even sweating a drop so we can afford to re-do and make it right"

kind of situations. I am confident things like this play a huge role in the congolomerate of humanity, that we are.

The simple of it is.

Racism is a subset of prejudice.

If you are racist, you are prejudice against a race.

That's it. Why they use a different word now? I dunno, probably some psychological brainwashy kind of reason...

For change of language look at the drop list for dictionaries and vocabulary books. The words that fall out and get introduced with each iteration.

I recommend this to everyone interested in languages.
