While we see more and people getting out and going to stadiums and arenas at least here in the southern US they are packed and very few if any masks. Right now the US is only 44% completely vaccinated if there isn't a corresponding spike doesn't it show the continued hype and worry was completely overblown.

looks like it's getting through to our friends across the pond as well.

Yea it's pretty obvious they want to continue the control.

Here in Atlanta Mayor Keisha Bottoms is blaming the surge in crime because the governor opened up the state too soon like we are supposed to be locked down while the state has been at or below 1.0 transmission rate since February.

Well in the UK we've just had 72 deaths due to a covid positive test. That's 72 out of 80 million, that's a percentage of eerrr, eeerrr, you do the math. We aint got a pandemic.

Ha....yeah....KLB is a idiot and that's why she isn't seeking another term.

She and Kasim Reed have raped Atlanta for long enough.

Just blame the unvaccinated for it all. As the UK government and media are doing, They are trying to create a divide and a two-tier society.

I supported the first lockdown.
If anything I think Boris didn't lockdown early or hard enough.

I sort of understood the need for the November lockdown and again didn't think it was early enough or severe enough.

Lockdown early.
Lockdown hard.

I understood the reasoning behind the request to wear masks in public places, shops etc.

With this Indian/Delta variant Boris made the same mistake yet again.
He was far too late in stopping people coming back from India and he should have enforced a quarantine on people doing so.

Now we have a situation whereby we had a large number of people from a specific section of our society who have been slow and reluctant to get vaccinated return from a specific country with a high infection rate of this particular variant and were able to wander around freely intermingling with anyone and everyone.

In addition, for the last 18months or so they have persistently told us that younger people weren't really at threat and only incredibly rarely did they become infected.
And those who were infected rarely developed any symptoms at all let alone require hospital admittance.

Well quelle #ing surprise.
Those younger people who were virtually immune to COVID are particularly prone to catching this new strain.
How very bloody convenient.

Yes, infection rates are increasing.
But hospital cases aren't rising exponentially.
Neither are deaths, which are barely negligible.

I sure as hell don't want to catch this frigging thing.....but enough is enough.

What was the point in all the old and vulnerable people getting vaccinated if we aren't opening up fully?
Nearly 50% of our total population has had 2 doses.
What was the point?

The rolling 7 day average daily death rate is currently at 9.
At its peak it was 1359 deaths per day.

For me that sort of puts it into perspective.

With testing currently available we can shut hotspots down quickly and hard in order to contain local outbursts.

I don't handle being told what to do very well but I've understood the reasoning, bit the bullet and gone along with it - despite their frequent cock-up's - but enough is enough.

Thanks for the post.

I certainly understand the need for a lockdown initially, even argued with some here on ATS about exactly that.

It also goes to show that different areas have different scenarios. Here in Georgia and most of the southeastern only had one bump. We were supposed to get a new wave from the India variant but it never materialized.

We aint got a pandemic.

With 80% having little to no demonstrated symptoms and 0.15% - 0.24% Fatality rate, we definitely "aint got a pandemic". If it was a legitimate pandemic we'd be throwing everything at it, such as Ivermectin, which now has about 80 or so papers demonstrating a reduction in hospitalisaitions of up to 76%.

What we do have, however, is a world wide pandemic of hysteria ..... which has been brought about by corrupt individuals, corporations, the media and governments, whose only concern is money and dystopian control for their own benefit.

And like any pandemic, when it's serious, serious things need to happen. These institutions we can change need to be torn down and rebuild, they are not on our side any more.

*Within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test. They could have been run over by a bus and will still be included in those figures.

Had enough of it myself. I now refuse to wear a mask out and about. I still clean my hands regularly with sanitiser.

Refused the vaccine. If I catch it and die my body wasn't strong enough.

Yip, Back at the start when everyone was saying they were including RTA or anyone already in the hospital for other illnesses or injuries in the covid death numbers I simply didn't believe it. I thought it was just one of the usual conspiracy theories and ramblings of a demented internet Karen or Kevin.

I do now because they have since admitted it.

I wear a mask in most shops, simply because I have to and it saves any sort of confrontation - my 10 year old Grandson tends to be with me most of the time when I'm shopping - but that's it.
I take one with me when I go to the pub etc but....

Some time last year an 80plus year old uncle of mine fell down the stairs.
He was rushed into hospital where he was diagnosed with Covid.
They wouldn't let my Auntie see him - they had been married for over 60 years and doted on each other.

He died of the injuries he sustained in his fall.
But he was included in the Covid-19 related death statistics.

We'll never know how bad this pandemic might have been if they hadn't locked down,

But enough really is enough.

this thread is related to the very idea of any 'lockdown' extensions...London, NYC or where-ever

during the USA campaign season last november 2020, our joe Biden stated that It Will be a Dark Winter with the COVID death counts

and later during the actual Winter season, Biden forecasted a Summer of Freedom indicating the COVID vaxxines would flourish, lockdowns will end and other such news

? did our J Biden miss the regular pandemic debriefings ? is the london varient that bad ?

Something that has to be stated is the cost-benefit analysis of the lockdowns. Many people don't have the global economic understanding of the impact of large scale lockdowns, ranging from supply chains to food security.

According to the UN and WFP, over 100 million new people were thrust into extreme poverty due to the effects of the pandemic policies. That is in addition to the hundreds of millions already in extreme poverty. The impact on these groups by themselves may represent negative impacts from covid policies that outweigh any benefit and lives saved from the lockdowns. Quite literally, over the next few years the global impact of covid policies may cause millions of deaths, if not tens of millions of deaths. Then add in all the impacts on health care in developed nations, increased addictions and suicide, etc, and it is almost guaranteed that the "cure will be worse than the disease."

"For those in extreme poverty, the biggest concern is not the virus
COVID-19 is changing the face of extreme poverty

The COVID-19 pandemic is forecast to push more than 100 million people into extreme poverty. New projections from the World Bank paint a clearer picture of who they are and where they live.

The effects of lockdowns, job losses, and economic disruptions have disproportionately affected extremely poor and marginalized communities. In 103 out of 158 countries surveyed in a recent report, at least 1 in 3 workers had no labor protections such as sick pay prior to the pandemic, making them underprepared to handle the crisis.

In India, where the lockdown caused an internal crisis forcing millions of internal migrant workers to return home, many workers had no labor protection or safety nets and were cut off from access to food. Yet several state governments have used the pandemic as a reason to increase daily working hours and suspend minimum pay. For those living in extreme poverty, the biggest concern is not the virus but hunger.

The World Food Programme has warned that the number of people facing food insecurity would double as a result of the pandemic without adequate measures. “COVID-19 is potentially catastrophic for millions who are already hanging by a thread,” said Arif Husain, chief economist at WFP."

All public policies must be assessed, and they usually are, by analyzing if the net impact of the policy is positive. If you save 20 lives through a given policy but that policy causes 50 deaths later, it is net negative.

The problem is, the media and most political leaders did not cover these impacts, even though they would be well known to international development experts. I consider that to be extremely dishonest and malicious. Why didn't they tell the public about the horrific impacts that such global lockdowns and supply chain disruption would have, especially in already at risk communities and countries?
