I dunno, Gobekli Tepe is one of my favorite sites and I tell people about it frequently.
And the general response is "Oh that's neat."
Then they go on about what they're doing.
Expecting more is kinda overestimating how much people generally care about history, ancient or otherwise.
People who do care about history are usually reading something like Archaeology or Real Archaeology which has a semi regular feature on the site.
Then there's the podcasts and the Tepe Telegrams blog Harte mentioned.
Even as popular as it is, similar sites of large scale organization in a hunter gatherer setting like Poverty point don't come up much.
This isn't due to archaeologists hiding the sites, frankly they try to promote them as much as possible.
And personally I think that as great as Gobekli Tepe is, it's fame has drawn attention and funding from other sites.
