I used my old tv in the bedroom for regular tv channels and you know the 8oclock flicks if interesting, was a bonus if the program was good. I am basically asking what apps to put on my new smart bedroom tv. I hate to just use it for youtube music and I think I would need a new netflix plan if I want netflix in the bedroom, but netflix in the bedroom seems like a waste too. What are you folks tuning in to while you are nodding off and when you have not committed to sleeping quite yet. I can pay for apps, but free sounds better as I only let the thing run two hour max per night. Thanks in advance for your response.

Vizio TVs come with free channels.

YouTube has lots of sleep videos for free.

I like the waves crashing on the beach ones myself.

Honestly when going to bed I watch educational or historical stuff on youtube as it puts me to sleep better than movies or TV shows. On my roku I have the usuals, netflix/hulu/disney+/HBO/peacock.

On the free side roku has a metric ton of free channels with mostly older titles but many are still good. Oh and Crackle is still free with commercials too.

I don't and will never own a smart tv or a smart phone and have never downloaded or paid for an app.
Here is how I roll.

I have a laptop, an older flat screen and an HDMI cable....the laptop is portable so can be hooked up in any room.
I look up free movie sites that have basically anything you can think of on them and I bookmark them...if can't find it on a particular site, I do a duck duck go search and I find it somewhere else.

I have NEVER paid for a movie, video or any music I wanted to listen to and am amazed that people actually pay for netflix.

I like to fall asleep to podcasts running all night long, I sleep better.

Except they kinda make crap TVs. Every one I've seen and the one I owned all died way faster than almost any other brand I've seen or heard of...

Most smart TVs will have Pluto TV. It's free and has lots of channels.

The Internet Archive.org has all the free content you will ever need. Movies, books, audio, music, documentaries - anything you can imagine. It's all legal and free. I download movies from there all the time. Matter of fact, I've even uploaded stuff there, as they host it for free. Forever is their goal. Here's one of my Christmas albums:

Pluto TV is pretty cool. Lots to watch from current shows to classics.

The apps on smart tv's kind of suck.

You should get a firestick and add it to your smart tv. The interface is awesome and you can get almost anything, especially if you turn off the restrictions that keep you from loading third party apps.

DON'T!

Seriously, why would anyone even want ONE of these peepholes in their home?

If anything, put it in a garage or shed, if ya can't, a room that you can spare that is empty. Put egg cartons on the walls and back of door in that room so it can't listen outside of that room. And wear a mask and don't talk in front of it.

Geez, some people might as well live in a glass house and report their daily activities to the CCPIA.

By far the most sensible post I've read in a while. Common sense still exists.

Can't remember which thread but recently someone stated DDG is no different than Gaggle. However I am, at the moment, still using DDG. I didn't write down the other search engine options' names so I'm stuck like chuck until I do some research -- Not my strong suit.

I've had 1 which started having connection issues and picture problems after 2 years. Its been similar for anyone I know whos had one and if you poke about looking at reviews for them it seems a common trend. There are a lot better manufacturers and firestick/roku/tons of other streaming devices are pretty cheap these days anyway...why chance it.

These days, I'm pretty much 100% nonfiction. I can't sit down and watch fictional content anymore to save my life. By that I mean scripted movies and TV shows. I appreciate all the shows and movies I saw for what they were but my brain just can't go there anymore. Youtube all the way. I watch 100% free Youtube content made by ordinary people. Mostly just people posting about their lives and lifestyles. I don't need the stress of the trolls and the news stuff. I've made peace with the fact that whatever happens in this world is going to happen and it's going to take me along for the ride whether I want to go or not.

Ummm. If your TV has a built in Roku, you might want to plan on getting a Fire Stick or something because it looks like Youtube and Roku might be getting ready to go through a nasty divorce. The Youtube app on my dad's Roku suddenly stopped working yesterday and absolutely would not launch until I went into the global settings of the Roku device itself and changed the privacy settings to allow all the bad stuff. If I had not been able to get it to finally launch, the Roku would have been out because my dad mostly watches Youtube. We'd have had to get a Fire Stick or some kind of android TV stick that will take the Youtube app.

It would be paranoia if it wasn't fact.

I'm not paranoid. Because it is indeed a fact that the TV is watching YOU.
