Intelligence Unglued
By VETERAN INTELLIGENCE PROFESSIONALS FOR SANITY

MEMORANDUM FOR: The President

FROM: Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity

SUBJECT: Intelligence Unglued

The glue that holds the Intelligence Community together is melting under the hot lights of an awakened press. If you do not act quickly, your intelligence capability will fall apart--with grave consequences for the nation.

The Vice President's Role

Attempts at cover up could easily be seen as comical, were the issue not so serious. Highly revealing were Ari Fleisher's remarks early last week, which set the tone for what followed. When asked about the forgery, he noted tellingly--as if drawing on well memorized talking points--that the Vice President was not guilty of anything. The disingenuousness was capped on Friday, when George Tenet did his awkward best to absolve the Vice President from responsibility.

Recommendation #1

We recommend that you call an abrupt halt to attempts to prove Vice President Cheney "not guilty." His role has been so transparent that such attempts will only erode further your own credibility. Equally pernicious, from our perspective, is the likelihood that intelligence analysts will conclude that the way to success is to acquiesce in the cooking of their judgments, since those above them will not be held accountable. We strongly recommend that you ask for Cheney's immediate resignation.

Recommendation #2

We repeat, with an additional sense of urgency, the recommendation in our last memorandum to you (May 1) that you appoint Gen. Brent Scowcroft, Chair of the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board to head up an independent investigation into the use/abuse of intelligence on Iraq.

But Dems never lie right..........please.

Dems have lied but no war crimes were commtted. 5,500 inncoent civilians didn't die. Over 200 Amercan servicemen didn't die over a LIE. No letters were sent home to wifes and families saying your son/husband is dead over a LIE.

You have presented a piece of writing that most of us believe to be the case. Unfortunately, for you, it contradicts all of your "Bush Lied" tirades.
This just shows further that Bush did not LIE, he presented information that was given to him by his staff and he believed it to be true.
I agree with the piece that if, in fact, Cheney gave knowingly false information to the president he should, at the very least, resign if not face charges.

So much for "Bush Lied"
I can hear the backpeddeling already

No backpedaling. The whole adminstration is corrupt and evil. And, under the theory of respondent superior, BUSH SHOULD BE IMPEACHED.

K, first of all the Dems never started or finnished any wars, 2 cowardly and timid.

Secondly, dude, Colonel, you should start your own website message board on anti-Bush sentiments, that's all you ever talk about.

you actually came up with an intelligent argument, Congrats!!

The only problem with the Doctrine of respondent superior is that there is no proof that Bush ever TOLD Cheney to look FOR a reason or reasons to go to war.
Therefore, Cheney could have engaged upon a mission in furtherance of his master's business and, thereafter, completely forsaken the purpose of the employment and engaged upon an escapade of his own* that resulted in injury to another, the master is not liable.

Very nice try, almost works against Bush, but I think it all lands square on Cheney at this point.

take him down and the house of cards will begin to crumble. I'll settle for that, for now. There continued arrogance will bring them all down eventually....

Even if Bush never told him, both are guilty and should be removed b/c what Cheney did (creating the LIE) was in futherance of his duties to Bush. Furthermore, they were ratified by Bush by being included in the State of the Union speech.

Except for one problem. The presidency is not in the business of deceit. I would be more willing to say Cheney wanted a war so that he would get Halliburton some contracts(and he would get kickbacks). Consider for a moment that Bush may have been completely in the dark on the whole subject. It is the VPs job to give truthful information to the President. The presidents job is to provide truthful information to the people of the U.S..
If Cheney hid information from Bush to further his escapade (War for reconstruction contracts) he has forsaken the business of the presidency and Bush is not liable.

I can't believe he was completely in the dark. He's got a national security advisor; he's got a Secretary of state; he's got a secretary of defense; he's got the CIA, NSA, DIA and every other acronym.

If he didn't know, he was in a position where he should have known. As such, its either he's incompetent or go back to my last post.
