Having served myself in the USAF, the thing that I really noticed is: in the military there is always the suspicion that the US civilian population is the militaries hidden enemy . Not sure how it is programmed into our heads, but if you think about the politicians are somewhat less caring for us Veterans, then this makes sense and that is why they for the most part put their head in the sand.

I think it has to do with the way Vietnam vets were treated. So they use that event to brainwash the military into thinking the public cares nothing about the vets of war.

I have several friends who are literally screwed up from being in the military. It really sucks that they don't bother to do what needs to be done to help them. But they always know I am on call anytime they need to reach out, if just to talk.

But I assure you, civilians are not your enemey. You may be subconciously trained into thinking this, because at any time they can turn around and have you deployed to attack civilians. So the more you accept those factors the more likely they will be able to pull off 'bait and switches'. By dumping you in some small little town claiming its one place when its really just a US town that is annoying a handful of politicians. Its suppose to desensitize you.. further into becoming a 'murder machine' that executes without question..

I think more Military personel need to become aware of what you just said. So they don't turn their backs on family and friends, while yeah its true we weren't in the wars or battlefield with you guys. It doesn't mean we don't give a damn. I have seen this amongst friends who the VA just literally let suffer.

One of the guys had a bullet enter into the back of his skull and in his spine, it didn't kill him but paralyzed him waist down. He also started suffering from skitzophrena, depression and flashbacks, because of where the bullet hit in his brain. He's known to get very aggressive and truly believes the world is out to get him. But he has no one else to turn to, and it sucks. Especially when he gets the episodes.

No matter what, you guys are HEROS that protect us. Without you guys, America would of ended a long time ago. So I personally want to thank everyone who has served this country. Know that you are loved, respected and there are people out there that care about the wellbeing of you guys. I wish I could do more to help, but I just want you to know. People DO CARE ABOUT YOU!

I freely offer anyone who needs someone to talk to, to feel free to PM me. Your secrets will remain your own, and I ask nothing from you in return.

Doesn't matter. China is going to run us all over anyway. Their Soldiers don't get PTSD or cry about cheating spouses. If they do the CPP would stick them in prison or worse.

Guess the other people responding here so far aren’t veterans. Former Navy here, and e wry thing you say is true. Congress needs to be fired, almost every last one, and all of the useless bureaucrats and dismantle 95% of governmental agencies and 100% of our “intelligence” agencies.

Agreed. Former Air Force here.

I use the VA. If you had asked me about the VA from 2006 to 20012, you would have heard nothing but praises coming from my lips.

The VA I use, back then, was so through and patient centered, that I was amazed. I work in the medical field and there just was nothing civilian wise that you could even compare it to. Then something happened. That something for me was rotation.

The first thing I found interesting, at the time, was their holistic approach. I had no mental issues or concerns, but it was explained to me that they treated the whole patient, and mental health was part of my care. I was assigned a mental health doctor and he was amazing.

My mental health doctor assessed my mental health needs and determined that I did not need any active therapy, but he met with me periodically and kept track of me, just in case my needs changed. I think his concern was because I have a chronic illness that is progressive and debilitating, and he was aware of the possibility my needs could change. He also was super aware of the side effects of some of the medications I was on and how they could have untoward effects. He consulted with my primary care physician and had some of my medications changed when he recognized that one of the medications was likely responsible for the thinning of my hair. Like I said he was cracker jack.

I lost him, I lost the best primary care doctor I have ever had, and a great neurologist, all at one fell swoop when they were rotated out, and it started my slide into Hell with the VA. With each rotation it got worse, and each time I thought I had hit the bottom of the barrel, and with each rotation the bottom got deeper.

I used up all my requests for a change of care provider, and it became soon very obvious to me that the grievance process was a joke, and just a way to deceive the public into believing they care. They don't.

Our government is a disaster. All we have is a bunch of self aggrandized old farts that don't know how to admit that they are living a lie in their minds, while trying to make themselves believe they are the ones that are important, and the American people are the problem. Or a bunch of young self centered social media junkies, that spend more time posting to Twitter, than addressing the needs of their constituency. We have a government that focuses on self, while ignoring the people, and the country.

Ever darn one of them should be voted out. Every darn one. I have been saying this for years. It has never happened, and it won't. Too many Americans have given up on the country. They don't participate in the voting process, because they believe it is a waste of time and futile. The minority that do vote, are split into two opposing camps that care more about hate and the battle, then they do about the country. They don't seem to realize, or to care that it doesn't make a difference which side of the country they are standing on, they are standing in the same country.

It reminds me of the Biblical story about King Solomon. I just wish they would realized that with their die hard approach, that all they will be left with is half of a dead baby.

I've always suspected the rates so high because of how the military trains you. They change you into what they need, and then when your time is done you're thrown out with next to no marketable skills unless your moa was something useful. This kind of thing is hell on your mind, as it forces you to try to re evaluate who you are at a time in your life when you should already know.

Just a guess. My profession also has a high suicide rate, but nothing like 22. That number is just appalling.

"The military budget has 100's of billions, if not Trillions of dollars"

The VA budget does not come from the military budget. It is financed separately.

Mental Health in America is abysmal so no doubt the Veterans would suffer most.

First, thank you for your service! Secondly, thank you for caring for your fellow soldier. Many just pay lip service, but you invited them to your home. Kudos!

Now the hard part... You dedicated your life to serving an organization, the military. Its primary function is destruction and death. It can never be in true alignment with honoring life. What we are seeing is in alignment with the eternal law, karma.

I have a feeling you have evolved tremendously as a human being and your new values have outgrown the military. Your eyes and heart are open.

Best of luck on your journey!

thanks, wish I could say it was evolution... think it was the missus dragging me kicking and screaming to be a better person, add in a sprinkling of old USAF where it was beat into my head to watch your wingman, and now a kid where I feel I cant just tell him to be better I have to try and be better.

well maybe it is evolution but ill never admit it publicly.

The military loves Trump. And do you know why, because he genuinely cares, and also they know he cares about the civilians.
Someone here posted that somehow it gets programmed into military heads that civilians are the enemy. I wonder how that happens, when the military is supposed to be defending our country, our people. I have a feeling it’s been the program for a long time to use the military against the people, but I think true patriotism wins out so the next tier of destroying our nation is bringing the UN and foreign troops who have no consideration for us. It’s all about the UN one world government anyway.
The Rothschilds supposedly decided that the US should no longer carry the tithe is greatest superpower Across the world because America is the biggest deterrent to their NWO.
Please keep this in mind in your understanding of things.
I Thank you for your service to our country with the deepest gratitude. I cannot tell you my whole spiritual perspective, but there are hosts of light in action. Suffice it to say, a mysterious stranger once said, “Sign that document!” Henceforth our Founding Fathers signed the document which today we hold sacred as a document of Freedom to America and to the world.
Please don’t forget this... that ultimately you served the Light !

OH man, this brings back memories. I worked fighters and bombers for 23 years and loved almost every second of it. About 21 years in I got the cant bear to go to work thing, Its a sign that you gotta hang it up is all.

Its a tough transition for some, I missed the buzz of running a flightline....its quite addicting although you don't realize it until you leave.

And yeah, once you leave, the AF family becomes BS..you are a liability. But thats OK...I remember giving old vets schtick when I was a pup. Just the cycle of life my man.

Jesus H. Christ...Trump gives as much thought to military peeps as he does to the wall paper at his favorite McDonalds. Same as any President....troops are fodder.

Been that way since the beginning of time I suspect.

It's really not a left or right thing we've had 20 yrs of conflict minimal adjustments to handle the greater survival rates of the troops.

Neither party pushed so they are equally culpable.

We need vastly improved mental health care, the va has failed at such a rate we should consider a tear down and rebuild at this point.

I know I'll miss it, but I agree it's time to walk away in November.

Got a toddler I need to be here for, time to take care of me so I can take care of my family.

Which will allow me to help others where I can.

I left the Air Force in 2017 after 14 years. I was an E-6 with an easy path to E-8 given all the boxes I’d already checked. I needed 5/12 more years till I was eligible to retire. If I were still in, a pension with retirement benefits would be a stones throw away.

But, the writing was on the wall. The culture of the Air Force was rapidly shifting. It was less and less about the value of the individual Airman and more and more about social perceptions. Corruptions still existed at micro and macro levels of leadership, but only the enlisted pay the price. Wasteful spending was everywhere. But the rise of the “woke culture” was a big part of what made it easy for me to take a hard pass on dragging myself to work for another 5+ years in search of a retirement.

I no longer enjoyed doing what I did. The citizens we served/served for were respecting our efforts less and less. It was just a daily run of jumping into a suck-pool and making as many laps as possible, getting out at the end of the day and noticing some cut the towels out of your budget so they could spend it on more suck for the pool.

At this point, it’s been a great decision! The stress off my back has made life a billion times more enjoyable. The woke culture is still everywhere around me, but at least it’s not mandatory training anymore. I don’t have to push my busted up body through sexist PT tests anymore. I’m actually in better physical and mental shape than when I was in. It’s been a win-win.
