I think humans are going to be screwed over the next few decades because of our stupid infatuation with money or I should say certain peoples infatuation with money!

Is there no one person in this World with a brain to make vessels/boats 100% secure so that whatever is on that boat/vessel gets to where it's supposed to get safely without emptying the whole load into the Oceans??

Why could this not be transported by air?

Our wildlife are going to suffer even more with this tragedy and humans will inevittably suffer further down the road.

I'm fed up with these billionaires who sit and watch whilst they destroy our World with their pathetic hunt for more money!

Also on this vessel are containers with nitric acid!

uthorities in Sri Lanka are concerned that the MV X-Press Pearl container ship sinking offshore will cause significant environmental damage. The ship's cargo, containing 25 tons of nitric acid and other chemicals, was destroyed in a massive fire that lasted for 12 days. Authorities were unable to tow the ship away from the port in Colombo after the ship, operated by X-Press Feeders, began to submerge. Charitha Pattiaratchi, a professor of oceanography at the University of Western Australia, said the ship has already released three billion tiny plastic pellets into the sea that have washed up on nearby shores. Pattiaratchi told the Associated Press that the pellets, known as nurdles, "will persist in the marine environment forever as they are not biodegradable." This could devastate marine life and cause further pollution of beaches.

I swear this is all being done on purpose by people who want to destroy the Earth and destroy humanity... these disasters and scientists creating biological viruses in labs.... we are screwed as a species!

Well, the whales will now have to adjust their eating habits. Hopefully the squid will get to them before the whales do.

I know you're trying to be funny but really this disaster just adds to the many others..

The Terminator was right. It's in man's nature. If not by violence, man will destroy himself by killing Mother Earth with chemical pollutants.

Being next to and surrounded by the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean, I wanted to lighten the load of how serious this is. This is a major disaster. Our beaches are now filled with micro dots of plastic and even the raw fish we eat at the sushi houses are contaminated to some extent. Its like the Mercury in the tuna fish being downplayed because its all about money, money and businesses need to remain open.

yepo... we're well and truly funked when we have people ruling the World who don't give 2 hoots about the World we live on.... just about how much money they can accumulate and their offspring will just continue the same path... unless of course they get a serving of plastic pellets when they next eat out.

I don't really care for 25 tons of nitric acid to be transported by air either.

Boat was probably the best option here, but the fact that this became a disaster has a human cause, regardless.

Someone cut a corner that shouldn't have been cut, because someone who didn't UNDERSTAND the risks made a decision. (They were probably aware of the risks. We're generally good at pointing out bad risks to our superiors, but if they are the shot caller on the decision, we go with the call anyway.)

I was just thinking about all the cargo that has fallen off ships at sea, and what was in them, including what I depressingly think had to be some humans, and some animals.

And all the pollution from other things that have fallen in.
If everyone (government) is so damn worried about "Global Warming", how about we start with cleaning up our oceans? Because if the oceans die, we are doomed.

If humans are supposed to be so superior to all the other life forms on this planet, why are we the only ones that can't live in harmony with it?

Because we are idiots.

I don’t understand why every country with an active navy wouldn’t actively take on cleaning up the islands of trash that have formed in the oceans. Probably places like California will not permit them to allow the trash to be brought on land to be processed.

You are a complete waste of space on this forum. Not even funny at all.

Hearing this news makes me feel sick for the planet, and extremely pissed off.

humans are the earths cancer.
unlike types of cancers that kill us.
earths cancer will eventually kill its self off by creating its own radiation treatments by destroying the environment.
the earth will grow very ill but bounce back cancer free.
mother nature has a cure. there will never be a cure for humans. just inevitable death.

What is the point of having money? If the world doesn't exist to use it? I mean seriously, its kinda a really stupid narrative to begin with. It goes to show only the stupid can make millions because the rest of us care to much about those around us.

Its a little more complicated then that, its more like no one country wants to take the excess trash. We have countless ships going from nation to nation trying to trick each other into accepting a load of trash. So why would they bother to clean up the islands when they have no place to unload the trash? Chances are this ship, was purposely set fire to get rid of trash, and chemicals to avoid 'fees' by labelling it an 'accident'

People aren't recycling enough, people are wasteful. Landfills are full, in fact we have an landmass the size of texas floating around in the ocean that is literally made of nothing but trash.. As long as we don't deal with how much trash we put out.. the world will continue to be screwed by it.

Reusables are a must, the world needs to stop using 1 time use items. That means tampons need to be swapped for a cup, no paper plates, no plastic non reusable water bottles. People can make a difference they just don't. Because 'ewwwwww' I don't wanna touch my vajayjay, or boil sanitize something.. when it takes 2 seconds to use a throw away..

I mean seriously. If you want to change the world you have to start at home. But until enough people do, we are all screwed as it is. Because convenience will be the death of us, the animals and the world...
