how many roosters, and what kind of dog?

We have finally run out of roosters, all hens now. We get about 2 eggs a day. Our dog is a Great Pyrenees mix. Her name is Snowball.

Yep, not a fan of roosters. We hatched eggs this year and got 3 hens and a rooster. I’m trying to assert my authoritar on the little bastard, but he’s a ornery sh!t. We have a Australian shepherd. Rufus. He’s pretty cool but likes the taste of chicken. 12 hens and we get about 9 eggs a day.

Back in the day I fought to the death with a few monster roosters. We finally realized that one rooster to about 12 hens is adequate. We got about the same amount of eggs. We gave a lot them away.

Our hog meat was GREAT. They were Guinea Heritage hogs. Goat meat is good too, and the milk from those creatures is heavenly.

I was born five miles away from where Jesse James was shot.
What town was I born in? Pretty smart to sign up here.
Welcome indeed.

Two eggs per hen per day?

How many hens?

We have way too many roosters. With the recent hatching, we have about a fifty hens. They are really good layers and
we have enough eggs to provide eggs for friends and neighbors.

This before the new one are old enough to start laying. We are considering selling the surplus.

Just a thought.
