We can hope for the best and that's about all, really.

I've been trying to follow the news from Australia recently and some of the CCP activities are getting a bit more scrutiny.

Diplomacy not their strong point of late.(the CCP that is).

Meanwhile, China still gets a free pass on a list of unpleasant behaviours

That pi$$ me off. It was a previous incident some time ago with another Chinese rocket. That time it went over NYC before it got into the Atlantic Ocean. I think it happened last year.

China has a reckless rocketeering backround.

Don't you find strange that the last photo of it was taken about 2 days ago.

Not really , what did that picture tell us and what would another picture of a white dot tell us that we don't already know.

Falcon 9 rocket debris from earlier this year.

Not even feathers of that falcon made it to the ground as far as I know.

Some landed in Washington state.

Part of a SpaceX rocket was discovered in Washington state last weekend, days after bright comet-like streaks lit up the night sky over the Pacific Northwest, a sheriff's official said.

The space company recovered the "composite-overwrapped pressure vessel from last week’s Falcon 9 re-entry," the Grant County Sheriff's Office tweeted Friday.

The vessel, which was about 5 feet tall, was found on private property in southwestern Grant County, in the center of the state, last weekend.

expectation is it will come down some time tomorrow somewhere in the expected corridor.

The live tracking says 6 hours only. That means by noon today for me, here by the US East Coast.

I missed that one. Interesting, that was 5 feet tall only and it made it to the ground. This one is way bigger.

You don't just launch stuff up into orbit,

There not supposed to but that is what people are claiming china did.
I'm just saying how do we know what they really did?

Well, one good way would be if the Chinese actually informed people about what they are doing! You know, kinda' how NASA does.

I'll get mad if the junk doesn't fall safely into the ocean. Otherwise meh.

And what if you lived on the ocean, and it crashed into the ocean right in front of your house and contaminated the water for 10 miles in every direction...would you be mad then?

Don't be so scared all the time. This isn't going to cause a war.

I'm not scared...at all. I'm just saying, actions like this are things which are capable of starting wars. This one likely won't, but others could if people don't know what they're doing.

Additionally, did you see the other post by a member which indicates that there are 10 more of these missions just this year? Do the math, the probability of landing in the see just went down be a factor of 10. The facts is...the Chinese are flinging crap up into space with no idea of where it's going to come down to Earth. Doesn't this concern you in the least?

So, did the U.S. ever do anything like that? Yes, they did. Skylab. Did it land in the ocean? No, it didn't. Parts of it landed in Australia. Was it irresponsible and wrong? Yes, it most certainly was, and the American taxpayers paid for that stupidity too. My point is, anyone who ventures into space has a responsibility to act responsibly. Rockets capable of reaching space are filled with all sorts of nasty stuff (hydrazine among them), so they need to be dealt with in a responsible manner. If people can't do this, then they shouldn't be launching rockets to space.

The Earth's surface is covered with 75% water, so the Chinese rocket has 75-25 odds of crashing into the ocean, but if it doesn't crash into the ocean it has exactly the same probability of landing in your front yard as it does in mine, or anyone else's.

Just sayin'.

Rotation period has now dropped by ~50% from 4s to 2s. Likely cause: Interaction with the upper atmosphere.

Core stage apogee and perigee are closing. Now within 50km of each other.

Still too early to predict exact location, but one prediction says Pyongyang, NK (wouldn't that be a hoot!), or Bejing to the north. Again, still to early to tell for certain. A one mile altitude deviation could mean a radically different impact location. Plus, it will depend of the altitude of the atmosphere in the coming hours.

ETA - Latitude is climbing with each pass. (on this side of the planet). Over the N. Pacific now.

Here's my prediction...

Impact location will be 2,000 miles NNW of Hawaii, 2,000 miles E of Tokyo and 2,270 miles SW of Anchorage. (North Pacific Ocean)

Note: Hey Phage, you might want to put your helmet on, I could be off by a couple thousand miles!

I agree again. It's actually upsetting more than scary. In simple words (and sorry for my french) :

Who the F# they think they are to put the rest of the world under this situation !

Phage not even here. Not a single post from him.

I think he knew it and right now inside a bunker in a undisclosed location. You know...., government always want to save the smart ones first in the movies.

Any sites updating their prediction other than ATS? Heard Chicago was in the path but can't find it again. It's within 4 hours so somebody should be in the know.

For thirty years Russia and the USA have done controlled burns to de-orbit spent space junk into the ocean. China is behind both Russia and the USA so they want successful launches an a "not to worry about anything else". They actually have two more space launch missions they are planning with probably the same reentry results. I assume that will change if this 100 foot long several ton missile traveling at 18,000 mph does not burn up on reentry and actually kills someone ? Since the planet is around 70% water I figure we have a 30% chance of land fall. youtu.be...

The rocket is tumbling. This could affect how it burns up (or doesn’t completely) in the atmosphere. The outer portions will have an ablative effect, protecting the parts inside from heat of re-entry.
It really is a crapshoot, as to when/where it comes down and what may or may not survive the heat of re-entry.
All countries that have launched spacecraft are guilty of creating space junk, we really should have a treaty requiring more diligence in not creating more junk and starting a cleanup of what currently exists up there.

Currently, this Live Tracking is showing 8 hours 50 minutes until re-entry.

So that would be around 7:10 P.M. EST.

I'm curious to see how close they end up being, and how much the prediction changes throughout the day.

Should be front page world news.

Barely a blurb for over a week that jt has been known.

The circus never ends.

🤡

Yes, since it is REAL news the MSM isn't very interested.

Mainly because we know who is responsible and they can't twist the story to blame someone else.
If that was possible they would've filled the news with doom and gloom.

I'm starting to wonder if we are actually living in a simulated reality.
Junk falling from space.
Possible discovery of fungus on Mars.
Virus pandemic worldwide.
Zombies on the streets protesting everything and anything.

Mix that lot up and it's almost a 70s sci-fi movie.
Or someone really messed up the programming of the AI running our current matrix life.

That's a very lucid description of the state of the world, it really is like a dystopian 70's sci-fi. Add vampires from space like on "Lifeforce" the movie and it would be a Steven King masterpiece.

At this point I am actually not too far away from believing that vampires from space may actually show up.

Apologies.
I don't know how I missed your reply.

I think the vampires are already here! They'll reveal themselves soon.

I do think that a lot of 70s sci-fi movies were prophetic and a little disturbing in nature.
I can't recall too many of them having a happy ending.

It was 6 hours. I think reentering makes it slower.
