He sucked at baseball, that's why the Yankees unloaded his useless ass.

I wouldn't say he sucked at baseball considering just making a major league roster is impressive.
Yeah, he was great at football, good at baseball.

He batted .157 with the Yankees in his second year, he sucked.

He batted .263 for his career and .533 in the 92 world series.
No he's not a hall of fame baseball player but let's be fair to the man and remember he was a full time pro bowl football player at the same time

Like him or not he did have an impressive sport career.

So three points over the Mendoza Line? The Mendoza Line literally defines suckage at the Major League level.

I’m glad you admit he was three point better than suckage.

That means he almost sucked but not quite...

I wonder how well he could have done had he focused solely on baseball?

Bo Jackson is largely regarded as the best athlete anyone has seen in modern time. He was huge and fast and strong and generally did things you never saw before. Like when he just jumped on the outfield wall and ran on it sideways for like 3 or 4 steps.

In their respective sports Gretzky or Michael Phelps are up there for most dominant. In hockey points are your goals and assists combined I think if you took away all of gretzkys goals (he's all time leader in goals and assists and points) he is still #1 in points...by a lot.

Phelps has 23 gold medals...that's just crazy.

Yeah decathlon has to be one of the toughest sports, having to be multi talented.
I think it’s pretty amazing to rise to the top in one discipline but in ten, that’s an achievement

Anathros suggested Jim Thorpe, evidently Gold medals in two Olympic events (decathlon) as well as some US football, that’s an achievement

Playing both sports in the different seasons, that’s pretty amazing or did hr retire from one and go on to the next
Be nearly unheard of today playing two different sports in the same year at a professional level

I present the Olympian, Cleomedes.

One work by Greek writer and geographer Pausanias, for instance, describes the victory (but then disqualification) in the 496 or 492 BCE Olympic Games of the boxer Cleomedes, who killed his opponent, Iccus, by driving his hand into his stomach and disemboweling him.

Firstly, rugby and particularly rugby league is not a real sport so technically he only participated in one which was boxing.

Secondly, he is not even the greatest Aussie boxer of all time, let alone sportsman, let alone sportsman ever.

He was good but a long way off your claim. He was clever in the way he promoted his fights as we all wanted to see him get his head punched in every time.

Have to agree on mundine.

And a great bloke too.

Are you guys talking about the same choc?

He tried to market his mouth (successfully) and made a mockery of a science for cash.

The shame. Darren Hinch would have a fit.

Unfortunately more rugby league players followed his lead in debasing themselves and boxing in general.

I was waiting for this exact type of response.

The showman mundine is all controversial but the real nature of the man is undeniably sincere.

If the majority of humanity looked after their family, friends and people the way he does then the world would be a much better place to be.

There are a few docos and in particular anhs brush with fame worth watching to see who he really is.

You have him all wrong.

Jim Thorpe.

That's the only name worthy of this topic.

Massive sports fan, particularly football, horse racing, cricket and boxing and I have to say that anyone who knows this mans life story and achievements then they must surely agree with this.

A truly remarkably talented athlete and sportsman.

A few people have excelled at two professional sports and should rightly be considered as All-Time Greats, but Jim Thorpe was something else.

Anathros suggested Jim Thorpe, evidently Gold medals in two Olympic events (decathlon) as well as some US football, that’s an achievement

2 Olympic Gold Medals. One at Pentathlon and the other Decathlon - both multi-disciplined events.
Played Major League Baseball for 6 years.
Played professional American Football before playing for several teams in the newly founded NFL.
Played professional basketball.

That is a pretty impressive CV by anyone's definition and I personally can't think of anyone else's that could match it.
