do you think she should be silenced?

There are some who believe in the right to have a healthy debate w/o silencing the opponent. You seem to project quite a bit of your own thinking onto others.

Because it was you who responded to my post, I re-read the article written by that woman. Upon reading it again, I found no, repeating here NO, criticism of others who might chose to have children of their own. If you managed to find criticism pointed at others in the article will you please quote it out for me?

What I found was an article written by a woman who apparently considers herself a conscientious environmentalist reflecting on the limits of her own impact upon the environment while expounding on the numerous threats that her and all of our children and grand children will be facing as we continue to ignore our own stewardship of our habitat.

Edit. Please note. The article is titled ''IS'' having a baby in 2021 Environmental Vandalism'' Our OP, for whatever purpose changed that title to read '' Having a baby ''IS'' environmental vandalism. Here that small change in headline turns the nature of the article on it's head and makes it out to be something it is not.

all ya'll do is hate on people looking for a better life, especially if they come from $$it hole countries, amirite? clearly, it's not that easy.

I'm not hating on anyone. Who am I hating on? On the contrary, I think people should be treated with respect and dignity, unless they prove otherwise.

why do you all get so mad when someone is concerned with the world? concerned with consumerism?

I'm not angry at all. I'm just relating my opinion. I surmised from the article that the woman is just another phoney liberal who talks a good game, and virtue signals all day long, but doesn't actually do anything to back it up.
A specific example: I have a neighbor who virtue signals endlessly, has signs in her yard with liberal slogans, and tells people that she's "militant" and "rabid" about protecting the environment. She's also "anti-consumerism".
Yet she and her daughter fill 3-4 trash bins every week to be picked up, and have Amazon packages delivered to their house constantly.
The Vogue author is right out of that same mold. Virtue signalling, nothing more.

do you think she should be silenced?

No, absolutely not. She's free to say or think whatever she wants.

Yeah, let's ''make no mistake''. Opps you did. This author is not a ''girl''. The author is a 36 year old woman.

how exactly is the author self hating???

She's a typical guilty white liberal. Self-hating is part of the equation.
Did you notice that she said she felt guilty bringing a "Western baby" into the world?

Yeah, nothing says "I love my kid!" like "Damn thing, gots me some buyer's remorse here" by prettying it up under the guise of an inflammatory article.

She's just your average holier-than-thou piece of dog # on your shoe heel.

With her attitude, and blatantly pandering for self-hate brownie points, she is not a woman yet. Adults don't whine and make excuses for why they have trouble adapting to having kids.

Don't make me turn off the light and say DBCowboy three times in the bathroom mirror.

THAT will bring about some whining. High bar kind of stuff.

In a way that makes it worse. Here she is with kids admitting she regrets it because she's thinking of the earth. Hate to be her kids.

Mommy loves the planet so much she thinks maybe I should never have been born.

My son was picked on so badly he told me that, and it's one of the most heartbreaking things you can hear ... unless you maybe think it might be true. At that point what sort of parent are you?

Think of the pond darter?

So will the western world seek to adopt the failed one child policies of our Chinese allies?

Or will we create some kind of child tax making it difficult for all but the rich to have child... and the pore who will be exempt due to concerns over racism. Does baring the middle class from having children good enough to fix the problem?

again with the melodrama.

a girl struggles with bringing a child into the world and you all go straight to eugenics and racism. it's weird. i personally wish more people would think of every possible scenario good bad and ugly with regards to having children. sounds like you just want to silence her or anyone who thinks like her.

she decided to have a baby and it sounds like she's going to raise the child to care about the environment. again, the horror!! i did the same and my daughter doesn't care much for material things - is that bad?

Ehh, if some woman can have an opinion and feels like its a good idea that she share that opinion with the world than you can't really blame others for forming opinions about that opinion and sharing them with the world.

I'd be ok with everyone keeping their opinions to themselves; but its just not how it works.

I think you are ''reading into'' things that are not there. She says that she would like another child if her partner will agree. That does not sound as if she ''regrets'' having her first child. Again, can you quote for me out of the article where she suggests that she regrets having a child?

I think you are not comprehending the nature of this woman's considerations. That maybe you are reading ''self hate'' into her that are not there.

I remember when young adults had the same trepidations about having children back in the 80s. "How can you bring a child into this world" made it into enough of our popular culture that it stuck in my brain as a child watching and hearing it so often. I don't really remember what it was they were afraid of back then, but I assume it didn't happen.

I find it hilarious that I actually agree with the statement that breeding is environmental vandalism.

We have a serious overpopulation problem. Want to see it? Try to get something done on a weekend. Try to enjoy yourself on vacation. Try to shop in the evening. Try to get home during rush hour. Try buying sushi for a price anywhere near reasonable.

There are way too many Homo sapiens. Nearly 8 billion.

Time. For. A. Plague.

Not just a simple pandemic.
