I Didn't know her for very long, just 2 short days. But two nights ago my daughter comes home in a hurry to tell me she drove over top of what she thought was a cat, so she stopped and coaxed her into the vehicle with her. She didn't think she strike the cat, and I couldn't find any kind of obvious mechanism of injury but the cat didn't want to eat or drink much, and had a wheezing sound when breathing. I tried to make sure she didn't get hit and maybe had a collapsed lung or head injury....no blood, no spinal fluid in the ears, good even lung sounds that sort of thing. No crush injuries, no blood really anywhere

Well we had been looking after her and she was holding on, appeared to be improving by the day, and lastnight I held her for a couple of hours before putting her down on a soft blanket to sleep for the night. Unfortunately my daughter just informed me she passed away at some point today when my daughter went to check on her

I looked in on her earlier this AM when I woke up, and I assumed she was sleeping then as well

We had taken to calling her daisy, she was a fairly smaller cat with white and black blotches just like a cow. Very sweet and loved sitting on my lap and got along with the others real nice. We had originally planned to adopt her out but I was already planning on trying to make her a permanent addition to the family

Didn't know her for very long but we will be burying her somewhere nice today. Not what I planned on doing, but bad news never is expected

I'm so sorry.

Maybe she was a stray, in bad shape? Maybe why she was in/near the road.

Regardless, you gave her 2 great days at the end.
More than most stray/abandoned cats get, so good on you for having a kind heart.

If your near MI, I have 5 kittens, from an abandoned stray, somewhere in my barn right now. (She moved them the other day, so now I have to hunt them down again.)

So sorry she didn't make it.

It reminds me of the time one of my work mates found a stray kitten on the day we were getting together for a poker night.

It kept pestering me, maybe because I kept giving it munchies. At some point she must have got out of the house and unfortunately, was run over. My friend's daughter went looking for it and announced her demise. We only got to enjoy a few precious hours with her. Needless to say, our entire poker evening wasn't the same after that. At least it was quick and hopefully didn't suffer too much.

It's good that you could take Daisy in like you did. There could have been multiple reasons she was in the shape she was in. At least she had someone to take care of her for her last days. Your daughter could have hit her a little or the cat could have been sick and laying there because it thought maybe someone would give it help. I have witnessed a cat coming over to seek help from someone one time, the cat lived in the case I am talking about, and with a little facebooking the owner was found.

Thanks you all big hug from me and my family

It was a beautiful day here today and very fitting for such a warm and sweet little kitty. Shes buried under a tree right by the back door and will never be alone again

She didnt seem to be in any discomfort and until i learned she didnt make it i thought for sure she was just in shock from the car

Really wish wed have taken her to the vets now. They use to make house calls but due to covid they said we couldn't come in with her and we were afraid we couldn't see her again

I will have to get the pictures off my daughter

We think so chiefsmom but i did notice a spot in her ear that could have been a tattoo, looks like a M or N and i was told she was probably spayed at a shelter at some point or even a lost pet, but she definitely spent some time outside on her own

We have been searching for a missing cat report matching her desc but no luck. Figured we could at least reach out and make sure they know but we hope calls to the shelter will be more revealing

I had thought i found a new little buddy but i need to learn not to get attached too quick

And thank you on behalf of those kittens, you are giving them a chance to enjoy all the wonderful things around us, hurts to see all the strays, we have a few around the area we see regularly and always leave those Sheeba portions for them 😁 they are very shy to come up to people but they RUN for these things

I appreciate it Encia22, means alot to me

Really sorry to hear what happened to your kitten, they really know how to make friends for life fast dont they?? 😊

I had originally planned to ride the trails today and patch some storm damage up on the fence, but my heart just wasnt in it today. I know my little buddy probably didnt know how much she was loved by us, but her existence mattered to me and i know yours did too. Even if its a few short hours, they still felt genuine compassion from the people nearby

Thats what my daughter wondered if she felt any pain and I dont think so, we were convinced she was sleeping really heavy until i didn't see her little chest moving, very peaceful and she was in earshot of me 24/7, nothing to indicate any discomfort at all its one reason it was tough to pin down any injuries or illness

Of course my daughter took it to heart, that hurts a bit too. I know she blames herself to some degree, but the way her black and white patterns are they are almost invisible on the gravel road, and i have to believe there would be some obvious injuries present or some sign at least

Thanks rickymouse i appreciate the advise on social media too, i didnt think to check that for a missing report

I will make sure i tell her about them trying to seek help, that makes a lot of sense and maybe it will help her not blame herself

Our other cats loved her (impossibly rare...hah hah) and they did seem to spend a lot of time cleaning her, they also shared the "blinky thing" they do 😁

like I told my daughter evem though little Daisy cat didnt make it, doesn't make the time we did have any less meaningful or the mutual feelings exchanged any less valid

Just make sure to tell her never to pick up a hurt skunk and bring it to your house.

You don't know how close this was to reality before..only with a RAT, the reason she didn't is because it was visibly dead, I said no way on rats well her answer was "But its all God's creation" Now I don't have anything against those things, just don't want to bring any strange illness in that us or the pets will catch

Here I am surprised (and secretly happy) that my very scientific minded daughter is maybe deciding to take another look at religion...nope, she said it was an argument she thought would work on me
Nice try at least

Yeah we have had mice, baby racoons, several birds, a duckling, a snake (non venomous) and more cats and dogs here then I care to admit, we really don't have many "pets" but there is an ever revolving door of sick and injured animals brought here...if not by her then by her friends, by the neighbors..when you are known for taking them in it gets around

Only good part there is seeing them go back into nature or in many cases finding a new loving family

I never had the heart to turn any of them away

It sounds stupid, just have always felt our status as intelligent life forms gave us a duty to the less capable creatures we share this beautiful place with, now don't we all hope life forms from "up there" would think the same way about us Hmmmmm

If one of the deer that come to our house got hurt or hit by a car and came into the yard, I would try to help it to get better. We are not supposed to take in or help wild animals, but if nobody says anything, then the DNR will not be knocking on my door to give me a fine. I do not have much experience fixing broken bones, but if it sat still, I could possibly put on a splint and get it into the garage so it could heal. I should build a little barn for the deer some day, I will put some wagon wheels on it so they do not raise my taxes. I can call it a trailer without a base. I am sure that the deer would use it as a shelter if I filled it with hay bails and spread out the hay in the winter for them to eat. Definitely breaking the law though.

We have two pregnant does and a fawn that come for lunch twice a day, the does are really big in that area, I would say another three weeks and two more fawns will be bouncing around. The does do not bring the fawns into the yard when they come to eat till they get about four weeks old. They usually are close, but not in the yard, when I open the patio door and call for them they come within minutes to get their snack. I cannot leave food out because it attracts the bears so they have to be out there before I put food out. I don't want the bears trashing the bird feeder or breaking the patio door.
