Lost our Gizmo recently too.
It's never easy to part with our lil buddies...especially where unconditional love is concerned.

Condolences to you and your family.

It's hit us harder than we ever expected.

But thank you.

No, it is not.

Whether the dog lives 15 years, 3 years, is sick for an extended period or dies suddenly.
It is never enough and we can never be prepared for the hit to the heart.
It feels as though your hear will break.

And all you can do is mourn the loss and know that someday you will remember them with love and a glimmer of the pain you now feel.

Seems like the older we get, the more attached we get to the animals. Maybe it is because we spend more time with them and especially with the covid restrictions in place.

I know.
The love, like the memories made from it, never really end.
We still feel our Gizmo with us and...from time to time, we both catch glimpses of him.

His name was Bilbo, he came to us a young pup, brimming with youthful exuberance, from a shire nearby.

Eleven dutiful years, he served, loving and protecting your realm.

I am so sorry for your loss, but I am consoled by the fact he did not suffer.

And now his watch has ended.

Sincerely,
~joe

Aww f#ck.

I read your post am now sobbing like a baby.

Lay down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
You have come to journey's end
Sleep now
And dream of the ones who came before
They are calling
From across the distant shore
Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away
Safe in my arms
You're only sleeping

What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come to carry you home

And all will turn
To silver glass
A light on the water
All souls pass
Hope fades
Into the world of night
Through shadows falling
Out of memory and time
Don't say we have come now to the end
White shores are calling
You and I will meet again
And you'll be here in my arms
Just sleeping

What can you see.....
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come to carry you home....

And all will turn
To silver glass
A light on the water
Grey ships pass
Into the West

I wish I could lie to you and say you'll stop crying for him.

All he did is love you for all his life.

The best advice I can give you is adopt another dog from a shelter to honor Bilbo.

Oh no! Such sad news. I'm so sorry for your loss DB.

I am another who believes we will be re-united with our beloved pets one day. Just picture Bilbo running through green fields and resting beneath a tall tree in the sunshine. He knows how much he is loved and loves you the same. This is not goodbye, this is until we meet again.

My son (whom I'm going to disown after I stop sobbing) said that we need another Welshie but name it Frodo so he can continue the journey.

How about a Chihuahua named Gollum?

Awkward but that's what we named our eldest.
