US lawmakers and Afghan women's rights activists" are worried that pulling the military out of Afghanistan will set women back.

I want to know when exactly did women in other countries become our problem?

Sooooo the U.S. military is supposed to police their social and cultural norms?

No... How many of our "allies" have horrible domestic human rights issues?

It's all lip service at this point, and I think most everyone knows it they just try not to say it out loud because it's viewed as unpatriotic.

Well, you can love America and admit we are making mistakes. In fact, I think wanting to better our position is indicative of support.

Not to mention, the tax of failed wars gets passed to our young men and women via blood, and the rest of us debt. I can't think of a worse time to further over extend ourselves. I also couldn't see a better way to empower our enemies/adversaries by sabotaging ourselves.

My two cents.
Can we please please PLEASE stop playing world police!? Can we stop trying to push OUR system on the rest of the world?! Can we not just focus on security for OUR nation?! Hell I'm not even talking about cutting the military budget but putting the money we WASTE trying to convert other nations by force into research and an impenetrable defense. China IS coming and we are not even close to ready. This won't be a boots war...this war will be won by the best tech. Who ever can shut down the others drones wins...period.

Not trying to be rude and drop out of the conversation. I'm allowing work to take up most of my day, and the rest of it is taken up by getting things done and spending time with Geez. I'll probably be able to sit down tomorrow and put some real effort into responding to everyone who commented to me.

But in a quick nutshell it is my opinion that the people in these countries do need to be able to govern themselves. They need to stop relying on the US.

It's just the nature of the beast that not everyone agrees. Anywhere in the world you go you will have people saying "We hate the US," or "We love the US." And we all know the US isn't exempt either.

There are always groups that wish to speak for the whole. Individuals who feel as though they ought to be able to dictate how everyone else should feel or what to think.

This is the problem with humanity. It seems that all around the world people can't overcome their differences and work together. Even when there is a common enemy there are squabbles about how best to deal with the situation. There is always a power struggle. Because people can't just leave other people alone. They have to force their politics, religions, identities, and whatever else kn to other people.

In my opinion that's a sign of insecurity and weakness. That a person can't feel comfortable when another person behaves or thinks differently that they have to forced or coerced into living a way that makes the aggressor comfortable and if that fails it leads to violence.

I've already had people in other forums be quick to defend the Soviets, I've had people be quick to defend the US, I've even had people accuse me of being an Islamic sympathizer.

That is an example of attempting to chastise me and compel me to change my thinking, because I have presented a topic that makes people uncomfortable.

In my opinion, what you've said there is why I think the concept of a one world government is ridiculous.

The only way it could ever work is to kill anyone who won't tow the line.

Oh wait... ✋

Another story in the long lasting argument of whether or not the US military is welcome in other countries—this time concerning women's rights in Afghanistan.

Apparently, the media has found that "US lawmakers and Afghan women's rights activists" are worried that pulling the military out of Afghanistan will set women back.

However, it is my opinion that it wouldn't have been an issue if it weren't for Russia invading and occupying the country in the 80s, and the US consequentially funding the Taliban and Al Qaeda in the 90s. (That's not ignoring that there are more reasons than that about the mujahideen reasoning for their current activities.)

Prior to the 80s, it can be seen that women had been able to "enjoy" many freedoms and rights that they don't have now in Afghanistan.

They could wear damn near whatever they wanted, even those sinful miniskirts. They could drive, vote, hold political office, but because of the Soviets and US government during the Cold War era, the Taliban and Al Qaeda were able to gain more influence, and through the further actions of the US government and Russians began to see themselves has having been played.

And women suffered for it through the radicalization that swept through the Middle East.

But now lawmakers and women's right's activists are worried about the withdrawal of US troops? After decades of meddling and toppling? After two decades of the "War on Terror?" After years of complaining that the US shouldn't be the "World Police?" After years of people in countries around the world saying that the US is evil? When people around the world are scorned for showing support for the US military?

Now lawmakers are worried about women's rights?

Oh, the travesty! Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Honestly, you know what this is? The war hawks are just finding reasons to keep the military there, and are worried that the people who live there are going to start running their own country. The US government and MIC can't have that now can they?

If they're so worried about it, they should draft all the new wave feminists that are so repressed in the US to go over there and fight for women's rights for the women who have no rights and can only expect to be sold off for a goat or two at a young age to be abused and impregnated repeatedly.

amp.cnn.com...

Lol another example of moralists justifying the hostile occupancy of another nation. Can we say feminists have blood on their hands now?

You're completely correct that Afghanistan used to be a very westernised country. Kabul was known as 'Little America' in the 50s as many Americans lived there. Mini skirts and bikinis

The US led by Buckminster Fulller tried to create the world's first scientific city callrf 'Mega City One' in an attempt to turn Afghanistan into a country that would be self sufficient thus resist creeping USSR.

The project was a complete failure as the hydro-electric power plant project run by US companies was built on a salt plain and raised salt levels in the soil so no crops would grow; only Opium poppies. This lef to mass famine and rejection of western values as Afghanistan reversed into a nomadic tride and warlord state and

--------

The Taliban have been beheading girls who dare go to school in record ammounts the last few months so there is genuine concern about girls and women being allowed an education without being murdered but I don't know if the US or anyone can solve it.

Afghanistan is a country where empires go to die. The terrain and how tough people need to be to survive there make it impossible to conquer - all through the Afgham war the Taliban have controlled 90% of the country outside the green zones.

The news media is really angry and in a panic that our withdrawal from Afghanistan is allowing cities to be taken over by the taliban.

So what?

We kept the country safe from the Taliban for over 20 years. Where is the gratitude?

Geeesh.
