Bought a new O-scope today, the old one was pretty much just a lark. The new one is only 150 MHz, but it does have it's own sig-gen in it, and it does all the math functions. Plus it has a 8m memory depth, so I'm happy. I rise time is a bit slow at 3.5ns, but I think it will serve my needs.

I'm impressed about the onboard sig-gen and function generator. It's next-gen in the scope market.

Yeah, I'm sure there are way better scopes. A spec-anny is still on my list, but this is a nice start.

What model, you ask...it's a Hantek O-scope

Go ahead, you can make fun of me; it's okay.

Congrats on the new acquirement, you'll get no snickers from me... I use several in my studio productions and can appreciate any new technologies and features.

Price-point seems decent enough.

Curious about the utility of the signal generator.

Is this just to provide a reference waveform for comparison against what's being measured? Or is it more used as a trigger to turn on/off functions on other devices, ICs, board components etc.

Also, what type of gear are you using this on, device boards, DIY kits, robotics?

Sort of. Look at it as signal tracing. See what happens at various test points.

Makes sense. It's been over 20 years since I've operated one, and by now I've forgotten so much I'd be lucky to successfully turn it on.

I have looked at that model a few times while contemplating some newer equipment for my workbench. I hope you give us a fair review of it once you have had some time on it. Along with my my Tek2246A, I do have some of the small tablet based scopes that I use out in my vehicles like a pico scope and a cheap one I just got under the tree for Christmas because my wife stalks my Ebay and Amazon wish lists.

Either way, for the price points you even if the unit is not 100% the best of all worlds, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how much of it you will find useful and good enough to get the job done.
I think you will find it a delight to use and probably a good deal lighter to lug around when you need to move it.

That's funny I just dug out an old techtronix 2336 Oscope. I have no idea what to do with it but it works as far as I can tell lol even has its last calibration in 1984, it was gifted to me from the same person I got the nasa tapes from. I don't even why I would need one much less know what I would need it for to measure.

Honestly, I don't really know...until I get it.

I also have a separate dedicated function/signal generator so I'm not too worried about the internal functions, but I thought this was a nice feature. And, this particular model is pretty hard to find because it's in high demand. They're selling the same model overseas in China for about $270 bucks, but when you consider freight and wait time, I think I got an okay deal. 6-8 week lead on the ones from China and they come with European 220v plugs. This one has 115v north American plugs and more accessories.

I don't know. I'll report back if it's good. I'm thinking it will be. Seems to get really stellar reviews (other than on Amazon).

I'm kind of afraid to look anywhere else now, until I try this unit and see what it can and can't do. I'm afraid I will find some negative review which will make me regret what I got. I want to at least give it a try first. I did do a fair amount of research finding this unit.

Sort of like not going to the dermatologist to have a look at that mole because it might be cancer?

I have an old Telequipment Serviscope , got it thrown in when I bought a bunch of tubes. The guy I bought it from was building or modding tube guitar amps. I have no idea what to do with it, it has tubes in it, so pretty old.

This stuff is right up Halfwestern's alley.

I don't even know how to use the damn thing, give me any kind of verneir and I am A OK but this electronics measure/ test stuff is beyond me. I don't even realize what I could do with it or any of that, that goes with knowing.

It's great for calibration of a turboencabulator. But be careful.
