You are just not gonna believe this.
Where I live, the weather has been snowy, rainy, damp, cold and just sucked all around. Today however is pretty nice. Mid 50s clear skies and
sunny.
So about an hour ago, I was out front working on the roses. Getting them ready for Spring, turning the soil, adding some fertilizer and just enjoying
finally getting outside. A woman and her son were out, him on a bicycle, her walking. He's doing what kids do. Weaving around, going in circles, just
riding like kids do.
My truck is parked in front of the house and like everyone else, we have to park on the side of the street. The kid is tooling around, having fun and
kinda loses it and hits the rear of my truck. I'm not worried about my old truck, but went over to check on the kid. He's fine, gets up says sorry
and gets back on his bike. The kid is not hurt, not even a scratch as far as I can tell.
His Mom comes running up, panicked look on her face, whips out her phone and calls 911. The kid rides on down the block, but the Mom calls him back
and tells him to stay right here.
Ambulance shows up. Swear to God she called for an ambulance.
Cops show up.
The officer taking her statement is hearing how her son ran into my truck but she thinks my car/homeowner insurance should have to pay for the
ambulance call.
Gotta give the officer credit, because he's standing there with a bit of a puzzled look and trying to explain to her that your son ran into
his truck. While it was parked.
It honestly took him 5 minutes to explain to her that if anyone could file an insurance claim, it would be me. He asked if there was any damage, I
said no, as long as the kid is ok, I'm not worried about a little bump.
It gets sorted out, ambulance leaves, cop leaves, but the lady wants to stand and demand I pay for her expenses and says she'll call a lawyer. I
point to the front of my house and say "See those cameras ?" "I have video and a police report that says you're sh** outta luck."
I don't think the kid did it on purpose, but the Mom thought she saw a chance to scam someone and got sent packing.
