Every dog owner says that... but she was the best.
My family owned generations of German Shepherds. I am thirtythree and I count nine dog names. Most German Sheperds but also American and Belgian. We
burried the last one about 2015. We always had at least two, most of times three. Younger learn from older. All of them went through SCH3 training,
some were better at searching, some were better at protection service. All of them were socialized and friendly to kids. I wasn't the pack leader but
humans are above dogs in the pack, always.
This Belgian Shepherd however... Intelligent, balanced, awake/alter, lovely with kids. She would react to hand signs we teached most of the dogs. She
loved to race me in the car. 55km/h steady for 500m but then she needed rest. I had an old RWD BMW with gravel suspension settings. It was dirt /
field roads thought. One day I took a new route along a forest and there were a man and woman walking far away, they stopped. We stopped too and then
they came aproaching. I thought they were angry but they aproached me laughing with thumbs up and said that's a good behaving dog, wished me a good
day.
Because I honked and gave her a hand sign while stopping the car to let them by. To make her lay down at the spot she was seeing my handsigns
(immediately). Then I parked next to her and waited.
As soon as I started the engine, after they were gone a few meters, she knew she was allowed to jump back up and was eager to race. She would run side
to side in front of the car and I would rev a bit and clutch a bit and make her speed off. Then I launch with safe distance and let her win by letting
her in front of me all the time, making sure to let off the throttle and come to a stop. She would run until she collapsed I was concerned. Confidence
boost
Amazing dog in every thinkable way. She got 16 human years old and was very active most of the time.
