Russia recalls its U.S. ambassador for consultations after Biden comment on Putin

Russia on Wednesday called its ambassador to the United States back to Moscow for consultations on the future of U.S.-Russia ties after President Joe Biden said Vladimir Putin would ‘pay a price’ for alleged election meddling.

Biden made his comments after a U.S. intelligence report supported longstanding allegations that Putin was behind Moscow’s election interference in the United States, an accusation Russia called baseless.

CNBC

I can see this escalating really quickly.

Biden does not seem to really grasp reality and thinks he's some kind of untouchable.

Will post updates

While it is rare for countries to recall ambassadors the mere fact of doing so doesn't mean anything more is pending or that escalation will follow. My understanding is that it is a move that lets the targeted country know there is a problem at some point.

In doing some research just now it seems the last President removed all ambassadors on his inauguration day.

Additionally it seems the Ambassador to Zambia was recalled in 2019 due to his criticizing certain policies in place within that country.

www.cnn.com...

Recently the UK Ambassador to Myanmar was recalled after speaking out against the coup there

Seems like Putin may be the first leader to put Biden in place after his remarks, that Putin will pay the price and calling him a murderer. Kind of an embarrassing way trying to flex.

Pride comes before a fall

Putin recalled the ambassador after being called a murderer and that he will pay the price. I don't think you can compare this to the other cases you mentioned

If I was to make a prediction I'd say the US MIC want an escalation of war in Syria to start with. At the moment I reckon there's just not enough bad stuff happening and to be honest it'll help consolidate the fearmongering work done with covid.

Sometimes you need to stand up to provocation , America used to be good at that.

I can't see Russia permanently removing their Ambassador , if they do ... so what.

To be clear what you are talking about it this

PRICE
Biden said he warned Putin last month, in his first call to the Russian president after taking office, that he would retaliate if that meddling was confirmed.

“The conversation started off, ‘I said, I know you and you know me. If I establish this occurred, then be prepared,’” Biden told ABC News in an interview that aired Wednesday on “Good Morning America.”

The interview was conducted Tuesday, the same day that the U.S. National Intelligence Council released a report which concluded that Putin authorized intelligence assets to promote misinformation during the 2020 election cycle about Biden through U.S. media and people close to Trump.

“He will pay a price,” Biden said of Putin.

Asked that price would be, Biden replied, “Well, you’ll see shortly.”

KLLER
When Biden was asked if he believes Putin is a killer, the president replied, “I do.”

Biden also confirmed prior reports that he personally told Putin in 2011, while serving as U.S. vice president, that Putin does not “have a soul.”

“I wasn’t being a wise guy, I was alone with him in his office,” Biden said. “That’s how it came about. It was when President [George W.] Bush had said I’ve looked in his eyes and saw his soul.”

“I said I looked in your eyes and I don’t think you have a soul. And he looked back and said, ‘we understand each other,’” Biden recalled.

Exactly. Shuffling around diplomats (and embassies) is a rather standard diplomatic move to say "we don't like what you said" or "we don't like your latest policy."

If you're a news junkie (like me) you'll recall many of these incidents in the past.

Biden's comments were prompted by a U.S. Intel report earlier this week stating that Russia attempted to ruin Joe Biden's election chances.

Source: www.cnbc.com...

Last Spring, Joe Biden told CNN that Russia was creating fake stories about him, and Putin would pay dearly if he were elected U.S. President.

Yeah this is not good policy at all unless the State Department is ready to send troops and weapons to the Ukraine. Since the ME is cooling off I guess it is time to go back to the Cold War.

The problem is he will be like Barack and not do anything. His BS story about threatening Putin as VP made me laugh. Don't worry Kamala is ready to handle the job with her crazy cackle....

The Biden comments could be a standard red herring.

If Russia just wears a mask and does social distancing, we'll be fine.

*sigh*

Biden will kill us all . . . . .

If the SVR takes on the Biden family, I’m going to laugh my ass off. Hunter makes Joe very vulnerable and another Biden scandal would be entertaining. Joe shouldn’t throw rock if he lives in a glass house.

Give it a break you were acting like it's nothing, it's more relevant when the last time Russia removed it's ambassador before this. The best I can find was December 1998, when the US started bombing Iraq. Ergo Russia pulling an Ambassador from the US isn't all that common

So you are saying it's ON THE SAME LEVEL as Zambia and Myanmar? if not why even bring it up?

Why bring up ambassadors being recalled from third world countries pretending they are on the same level of importance as US and Russia relations. Cause it isn't, especially after the President says Putin is a killer with no soul, and he will have to pay for meddling in the election.

So what ?????

If Russia permanently removes their Ambassador, like you say, this is ...bad....very Bad...even the Soviet Union did not do this over decades of cold war...no one wants direct, open conflict between the US and Russia, in Syria or anywhere else.
