This is not true at all. The military is exactly entitled to have a public political opinion. They're even allowed to participate in political protests. The caveat is they can't be in uniform.
This is true. The rule on my ship was don't talk politics at work. Talk politics at the bar afterwards.
That didn't necessarily mean we didn't have to listen to the chiefs and officers talking politics all the damn time. Just that most of us enlisted scum couldn't voice our opinion because we refused to "polish brass."
The OP here said “bound by oath”. Having a rule on a boat IS NOT the same as bound by oath.
