TOWN OF DELTON, Wis. — A crystal ball magnified sunlight shining into a Sauk County home Monday, causing a nearby couch to ignite before the fire eventually spread throughout the living room.

No one was injured in the fire. Officials said the home sustained substantial heat damage with an estimated cost of $250,000.

The Eye of Sauron Strikes.
Actually Eye feel quite sorry for the owner as they probably just thought of it as an interesting piece of glass and before we mock them let's remember we have all done it, Crystal decanters on the window ledge anyone, of course over here in the UK our sun is not quite as hot except in summer and also our soft furnishings have to be fire retardant by law unless they are antiques.

And did not the old fortune tellers put a purple cloth like a handkerchief with tassels over there's once upon a time long, long ago (probably to keep the dust off and also because they used to be extremely valuable once upon a time with the best being not made from glass but from polished flawless pure quartz crystal).

Scrying is just another form of remote viewing as is dowsing, Crystal balls are only one medium used for that but it is not reliable, some few people though have genuine talent but is it then just a crutch they use to focus there state of mind and open there inner vision?.

Think about it like this, instead of sitting in a sensory deprivation tank the user stares at this object and looks deep into it taking there attention away from the worldly distraction's going on around them and focusing there mental attention elsewhere, very much like remote viewing but less accurate perhaps or perhaps not, all depends on if there is something to that ability and if there is then like the sensory deprivation chamber this may allow them to tape into that latent ability.

Oh dear.
I've just finished a cup of tea and the tea leaves told me to never trust what the tarot cards tell me.

What do I do now?

Well said. Not making fun of misfortune, just... why did it have to be a crystal ball??

The area should be roughly similar latitudes to UK so the sun isn't that hot yet, wonder if there was snow glare or compounding off a window edge or something. But yes, a good reminder to think about potential magnifying glasses hung around the home!

If you left a crystal ball uncovered in the old days, your hut burned, too.
They say it was evil spirits escaping an unwatched gateway.

So they covered them up when not in use.

The UK is farther north than you'd think! The most northern point of mainland Wisconsin is about 46°51' N and the most southern point of mainland UK is about 49°57' N.

It's a difference of over 200 miles (~70 miles/degree of latitude) between the two points.
