Some startling realistic videos being produced. This is extremely terrifying for how we will perceive our public figures and also as a new "the cat stepped on my keyboard" excuse. I am afraid for what this will do for our media and news gathering, especially as more and more people go to unvetted websites and take reporting at face value.

Do you think this will change the political landscape? Are we in for a treat for seeing our favorite actors in roles that we could only imagine them in?

I think tech like this is as incredible as it is dangerous. Like most stuff nowadays, I suppose.

We dont have a social or cultural framework to really handle it.. But rest assured people have plans to abuse it.

Coupled with something like the somewhat recent twitter hack, and we have quite a recipe for "fun" there. It would require some prep, but entire "interaction seeds" could be planted to precipitate a massive event. This is only made worse by information channels that have zero integrity yet still have the trust and faith of many in the world.

Want a big news story? Just make one..

this is creepy AF but I expect nothing less these days.
In the near future(if not already)I predict we will have deepfake/avatar celebrities and politicians who do not actually exist in human form but are controlled by AI-they may be presented as real humans.

At first, someone will find out about this and it will be a news item-but gradually these "entities" will become an accepted part of our crazy #ed up future of the fake BS maelstrom that we have already entered.

I wouldn't rule out an AI "personality" becoming some kind of planetary king-and as is the case now, this "leader"will not have humanitys best interests as its prime directive, rather it will be a tool used to manipulate, brainwash, control and present a twisted version of reality which only benefits a few select, unspeakably wealthy groups and/or corporations.

Humans-you are doing it wrong.

I’d believe it was real if it was 20 years ago. Tom only wishes he still looked that young.

On another note, so this is how they plan on using Biden the next 4 years.

The old adage "Believe half of what you see, none of what you hear" needs to be updated.

This is exactly where we are headed! Using DF technology to create a person so we are comfortable, slowly unveiling that this is in fact an AI, and then ultimately us not caring.

Yes, although he's still got the physical prowess, just needs more fillers

It makes you think if there isn't live, multiple source streaming of an event, what is real?

I love it!
Looks like they pretty much managed to create believable subsurface scattering in the skin now.
Still lacking a bit in the organic micro animations in the eyes. But it's damn close.

This is interesting since I am reading the last in the "Ender" series of novels, wherein the protagonist has a neuro link to a new AI species that has free reign in the entire solar system and beyond within the electronicsphere. Some of the philosophical dilemmas are presented pretty well...its a bit of a slog getting thru it, but worth it.

It will change the porn industry... people will be able to be "actors" and maintain anonymity or just fake AI.

Of course, the bigger issue is framing people for crimes with fake videos.

It will tie into the dead internet theory.
The theory that the net is 90% influence bots.
Now they just create characters.

Most of Joes videos actually look suspiciously like bad ai videos.
Contorting face etc.
Ma..ma..max pedroom

I'm guessing this is the direction they are going with the "AI for good!"campaign.

Who do you think is behind this tech? It potentially nullifies all ‘real’ videos or recordings. Just deep fakes. One more step along the path.

It has been developed by our big tech companies as a companion to AI development. There is great applications in colorizing photos, videos, etc from the early times of photography, and then there is the applications to media, but also in security/face scanning etc.
I also just saw this, which utilizes similar technology, to bring old photographs to life. www.livescience.com...

Think when (or maybe they have already) they develop the technology to project real fake imagery into CCTV lenses, go and assassinate someone and leave a fake evidence trail to convict someone completely innocent.

Then think who would want that tool, and who already therefore almost definitely has it or is working on it.

Intelligence agency's the world over.

In the wrong hand's this is like that movie were the actress has her life stolen from her, is framed and all done online, can't think of her name she was in that speed movie.

Opens up a can of worms. Now I can sue you for taking video of me or taking my photo right? Because that would be considered identity theft. How do I know that nothing nefarious will come from an innocent photo.

Great, more shat to worry about. Scary times.
