Yesterday morning there was a strange hailstorm that went through most of BC's coast. It lasted about 5 minutes, but it went down the whole coast and out as far as Langley and other outlying areas.

A friend of mine sent a couple of amazing pics of the hailstorm rolling through the Georgia Straight I thought i'd share with ats.

Interestingly, when I was searching for an article about it for this thread, I discovered other cities in different provinces also had freak hailstorms with strange cuboid hail lasting only minutes.

globalnews.ca...

Calgary which is almost 1000km away from Vancouver had the same hailstorm at around the same time.

Calgary's hail

BC's hail

Anyone anywhere else on ats get a freak hailstorm recently?

Suppose along with the Chinese troops stationed in Canada, they are playing with the weather in the same fashion as China itself? China is constantly manipulating an area the size of Alaska with cloud seeding/destroying (in China)... Suppose they had a HAARP or a SURA ionospheric device creating the massive high pressure bubbles that brought about the USA's recent cold snap? Test run? What better way to put the nail in the coffin to the heartland of America than to control its weather entirely?

That's right. You live in Japan.

Go to one of the Temples there and ask if they know when that last time the weather was like this. Like as in a date.

I know this type of weather pattern we're seeing has happened before, I just can't nail down when it happened, and on-line references are all messed up so some reason. Asking at one of the Temples might be the only way to get a straight answer.

Actually I go to the shrines and place some yen into the boxes they provide. Then clap 3 times and shake the cord to the bell. Pray a little and wait to see the 2 butterflies. As you know, butterflies fly in pairs, but recently I only notice their partner is missing from the landscape, so something is really happening and mosquitoes in February with snow on the ground.

We get that all the time here in Montana and it is not hail.

It is a form of snow called Graupel.

What Is Graupel?

The conditions just happened to be right for it there.

I haven's seen any since this morning when I got up... about 3/4 of an inch of it fell last night here.

Probably the same storm front.

Second time this week and probably the tenth time this month.

So it isn't rare here at all.

That's an award winning picture. Very nice. Ya it rolled through my place early in the a.m. Frozen pellets, like hail but harder lol. Looks like maybe the same coming later tonight. Not crazy exciting, but those pictures are amazing!

Oh cool thanks. I've seen hail like that out on the west coast of Vancouver island but never inland like this. Didn't realize it had a special name. Hail's not infrequent here, that kind of storm doesn't happen often though and to see it roll through so fast was pretty cool.

The strangest part to me was finding out calgary was experiencing the same kind of hail storm at the same time despite being about 1000km away.

It was odd for sure, I’m working just below Queen E park top of the hill in Vancouver I spun the crane west saw it coming.

The windy app was saying sustained 50km/h winds so I knew I was in for a ride. Lasted all of about ten minutes where I was at, got the frothy hail on the ground, I had weather vaned the crane so she was free to spin and took me for a third gear plus ride away from it, shifted back and forth a couple times. Then beautiful blues skies and honking the horn as loads were coming in.

Saw some almost 80k gusts on the anemometer. Not so bad really

But for sure came a bit out of nowhere. Was an average Vancouver partly cloudy day. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah. I live in duncan on Vancouver island. It was a little crazy here. I drive a lot and I passed through it a couple times. It was like a blizzard out of nowhere then a km later back into the sunshine. It's not unheard of here but it doesnt happen often and when it does its usually just rain not hail.

I was raised in BC (Bella Coola, Williams Lake, 100 Mile House, etc) and never saw graupel till I moved to Montana.

So yea... it is odd for there.

Red Leader, standing by....

So, here in Alaska we had a cold front over the interior pushing all of the Jet Stream south of Anchorage (it circulated back over us and we were warmer than Dallas, TX!), and pushed it over the panhandle.

Sine there is no taxing clouds leaving American Airspace for Canadia, it looks like it got you good!!!

Nice photo!

Looks like a haboob (desert dust storm) but hail! Freaky!!

Well, we got the warm, moisture layer to ascend over the cold, surface level, and have decent snow coming down now, so the weather should normalize for you (and the rest of the Lower 48), over the week!

Tofino's got some crazy weather. You'll get sun, rain, snow, hail all in like 15 minute spurts all day long depending on the time of year. Only been out there once around April, but the weather just couldn't make its mind up.

I've been to Montana in the Yellowstone area in winter time. It was really beatiful. -10°C but somehow didn't feel as cold as 0° on the coast. It was just snow there when i was there though. Way nicer snow than here. Dry and packable. Not bad to walk through.

Tofino is awesome! My mom ran a B&B there for 25 yrs, sold it 5 years ago..god I miss that place.. but for her, getting up there in age, it was becoming a worry about lack of a regular doctor.

I forgot to agree about the weather there..oh ya, just wait a few for it to drastically change..hell of a lot of rain.
