I need to get my mind off of things lately and boy is this a good read.
It even has a bit of humor. I was surprised at how much foraging knowledge I already knew, but
it's always good to have a refresher. I think it's nice to have reference material offline too.

I'm reading a couple of other things too but a bit bored so they are on the backburner.
What are you reading?

"Apocalypse Machine" by Jeremy Robinson and "The Scorpion's Tail" by Preston & Child.

I'll keep a look out for a copy--just the type of book I've been looking for.

I'm reading more lately than usual. I'm devouring cheap horror (King's It, Night Shift, and short stories by Douglass Clegg), but also reading Hesse's Siddhartha, The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennet and the Bible.

It's quite a mess of opposing ideas lol.

Apocalypse Machine

That looks amazing, but also looks like something that will give me nightmares.
The last book I read like that was The hot zone and I still don't like to think about it.

Kinda the same idea as you but different...

There are a few that I am quite comfortable with (morels, chicken of the woods, puffball, chanterelle, shaggy mane, etc) but I never really got into figuring out the other dozens of them here.

So this year I would like to know more and not die giving them a try.

He has a beefy section on milkweed that I found quite interesting.

I'm a big chicken when it comes to foraging mushrooms.
I need to get over it. I might take some classes. I'm good with just about everything else, but mushrooms freak
me out big time and I love them! (except for morels)

Pretty much the same with me, but it is time I learned.

My father is one of those odd ducks that can pick one and give you a 5 minute history lesson on it.

This book is his mushroom bible, so maybe some knowledge can rub off on me too.

I'm revisiting Stephen King's epic The Stand for about the 5th-6th time. After that abomination of a TV series need to get that erased from my memory.

I need someone to actually get into the woods and show me, and I need to watch them gobble it down and not die first.

Strange... I too, am currently reading a book on mushrooms, on edible Ontario mushrooms and conducting a proper foray, I just learned about the word foray up until about two days ago.

Exactly!!!

Just not my father, in my case... he has notes in his book.

So when I read about a semi-poisonous mushroom and he has added "very bitter, hallucinated a little"...

I'm not going to go out with him.

Although he's still alive...

To me it is the last uncharted part of wild foraging for my area.

So it is... bothering me.

Oh my goodness, sounds like my mom. She told me almost everything is edible if prepared in the right manner.
She grew up in third world conditions, basically foraging for food, so I believe her. I just don't know enough to do it
myself!

He is and is probably just foraging mushrooms for the high.

Which is fine but not what I am wanting to do with the subject...

Mostly...

And I will stop derailing the thread.

Here's my list
That foraging book above
How to Be a Victorian
Rich People Problems (boring)

How to Be a Victorian is a great book, and written by Ruth Goodman. She also has a series of videos on Youtube.
She is a historian and expert on the Victorian period. If you have insomnia that series will put you to sleep in minutes.
I don't mean that in a bad way. The videos are so ultra calming. They are also very interesting if you are fully awake.

Derek Lin's Annotated translation of the Tao Te Ching.

This and Meditations (Marcus Aurelius) are two of my favourite books, literally changed my life!
