Gday guys just found this beauty in the news today...

“Did the FBI secretly find $400m in stolen civil war gold buried in Pennsylvania? Lawyer claims cover-up over federal investigation into Union gold bars that vanished while destined for Gettysburg in 1863”

Seems pretty crazy that the us gov can get away with this, treasure hunters find the gold but refused permission to dig it up. Then the feds go in and grab it, and deny they found anything....

Wondering if ATS can shed any more light on this story....

Haven’t seen this on ats yet, apologies if already posted somewhere 👍

Edit, found this on the finders keepers website!

finderskeepersusa.com...

You have to be careful about stories from this source.
I recommend looking for other news sources to back
this one up.

I haven't read the full story because that site doesn't want me to scroll before its ready.
One question; Did they find it on their own land or somebody else's land or government land? That would be one factor in claiming "rights|".

Akso I don't know about American law, but it isn't unusual for a government to have pre-emptive rights over "treasure trove". That would certainly be the case if if was in England and buried in mediaeval times.

It said it was on gov land and when they asked permission to dig it was denied, then the gov went in and dug it up themselves... certainly interesting, I searched more info and the story first broke in 2018

So it was on government land, and the gold must have been originally government property in the first place. I don't see that the complainants have much of a case.

Wait a minute, though. Another thought. Why was anybody sending gold bars to a battelfield in 1863? Surely both governments were deliberately using paper money instead at that stage?

I watched a mini-documentary about it years, and years ago. 20, maybe? Maybe it was just a docu-story.

Who here really trust the Federal government anymore?

The folks that found the gold deserve at least a 10% finders fee. Also, don’t trust governments...they suck.

This is in my neck of the woods, so I’ve been following the events as they unfolded.
We grew up joking about someday going hunting or fishing & stumbling over a gold bar that eroded out of the side of a hill! There are all kinds of local stories/legends about it. People who have suddenly come into some money & when they got drunk said that they found a gold bar or some coins. Who knows?!

There was a story from back when the event took place, about a guy stumbling into a nearby town. He had pneumonia & realized he was dying, so he carved a map to the gold, into the wooden headboard of the bed that he was in. Lots of interesting stories over the years!

The land where the metal detecting equipment showed lead & gold is state owned. They tried for a permit & were denied. When the FBI got involved, the treasure hunters were told that they would be able to observe the digging. Sounds very familiar huh?! But when they did start the digging, they made the guys go sit in their car down the road. Too far away to see what was going on, plus they had tents/pavilions set up to block the work. At the end of the day, the guys were allowed to go look at what had been dug so far. Nothing was showing. The FBI told them to go home, that they were quitting for the day.

But people who live in the area, said that the digging went on during the night & that something like five armored money trucks came & went under cover of darkness. At the end of the next day, the guys were allowed back to look again. This time there was a deeper hole & nothing showing. The FBI said that they didn’t find anything & packed up & left.
When the guys used the metal detecting equipment again, nothing showed!

They asked for information on the findings under the freedom of information act. They were told it would take four years to be able to get it. They went to court at the state level & won. They are hoping that most of the information won’t be redacted. Now they are going to be going to court at the federal level. They were working on a video, but their lawyer advised them to put it on hold until after court.

They are entitled to a finders fee at the very least.
Because they are honest & played by the rules, they got screwed! Sound familiar?!
They said there are a lot of things that the public doesn’t know & they can’t wait until they can tell the whole story!
The saga continues!

I'm pretty sure that gold never made it to the Federal government because some people whisked it away before it hit the treasury. Bribing people with a piece of the pot can accomplish anything, I doubt if a tenth of the bars got to the government, and that probably got split between the parties for campaign money.

Before the find was the government bothered about the gold? NO. Did they really know it existed? NO. Now it's gone to the legal thieves to vanish in their pot.
Should have kept quiet, melted it into smaller pieces and lived the life. The only reason I would have given it up is if it was of historical importance.
Wasn't there a story of 3 wagons loaded with gold coins being lost in a sand storm around the civil war era?

The treasure hunters are working on a video of all the information that they have collected over the years. They say that the public only knows about 20% of the real story. And that what they have found out, will change the way the history of the civil war is viewed! Inside Edition wants to do an interview with them.

From the Treasure Hunters Facebook site: I’ve been fighting 3 yrs for the truth on what the FBI did at Dents Run. We know the truth, but when the FBI says nothing was found everyone believes them. We were the ones that contacted the FBI and told them about some offers we got from government employees and what some state workers did at our site, so we know what the investigation is about. Yet after 3yrs NO ONE IS IN JAIL ???? On Dec 8th we will have DCNR back in court and if the courts rule in our favor again we should be ready for Federal Court. There is just too much wrong doing in our government, and when the public knows what we’ve been through, I hope someone goes to jail. I will not give up until I know the truth. We all need to know what happened to all the civil war gold that left Dents Run. Who got it? Were is it now? 9 tons of gold is worth scrap price of $600 million and collectors price on coins or civil war gold bars could make the price jump much higher. 18 hrs after the last armored truck convoy left Dents Run, 9 tons of gold and silver fell from a plane in Russia. The cargo was black painted gold bars, silver bars, and gem stones. The FBI said that we had 9 tons of gold and silver at our site and that the silver came from a Spanish ship wreck, so it could of had gem stones in it too.
Was this our treasure???

The plot thickens!
There are other areas tied into the site that was pilfered by the FBI too. The Treasure Hunters have information ready to go as soon as their lawyer okays it. Probably after the case in federal court. Can’t wait to see if the good guys will prevail!
